    Youdontknow

In the middle of nowhere last night, I saw a high school girl walking home. It was 10PM, and she's wearing the usual white shirt and short skirt. In the middle of nowhere. Had she been my daughter, I think I'd consider her a tad important enough to want to go and pick her up instead of letting her walk home alone in the dark, in the middle of nowhere. It scares the crap out of me to think parents in this country are not fulfilling their obligations as parents and still think that Japan is a safe country.

Does this story sound familiar to those of us that have been here a long time? Remember about 7 or 8 years ago when they wanted neighbours of gaijin to report 'suspicious' activity to the city office or cops? There were something like 27,000 'reports' filed in a month, ranging from 'He's still sleeping and it's well past 6AM!' to "He has funny eyes. I don't trust him!" etc... No offence meant, but asking citizens of this country to report 'suspcicious sites' is like asking piranha fish only to eat vegetables!

The service targets consumers in their teens through 30s, who are not familiar with PCs,

That's the biggest load of piffle I've read today!!

And 315yen per month? Yeah right...that'll give ya about ten minutes if you're lucky and then as usual, KDDI will whack users with huge bills at the end of the month!

Just checked it out...it's not a 3D website view you get, it's a virtual world where you can paste 2D webpages onto walls etc. Might be fun for younger users, but other than that, can't see the potential in it, unless they start selling advertising space on those virtual walls.

This article is a complete waste of time! Japan just doesn't get it when it comes to online auctions and as usual, tries to make everything to do with them its own as in 'We pioneered this too!'

Ebay came to Japan and quit soon after because idiotic Japanese managers couldn't follow basic rules of business and stick with the way Ebay operates. They wanted to change everything, including the layout of the auction pages and sales pages. In the end Ebay said goodbye to Japan.

They have recently come back in, but not with the main Ebay name.

    TheNewZen:

    very little paypal in japan

I disagree completely. I've used PayPal in Japan for years and it's just as popular as any other payment method.

And the manager of this company is as bright as a 20watt bulb:

I try to place the right staff in the right jobs, which is very important.

Well, you obviously passed the exams for 'Most Obvious' eh!

    And this classic gem:

So I think these foreigners are virtually similar to old people who cannot use the Internet.

I read Japanese just fine thanks, and the only reason I don't use and never will use, Japanese auction sites, is because as is the usual case in Japan, everything is overpriced when it comes to charges and there's nothing worth buying anyway!

Never mind the pregnant mothers. The NPA should be ordering those mothers with kids in the car to have them buckle up the kids! I'm sick to death of seeing these irresponsible drivers allowing their kids to jump around the back seat, or worse - stand in the foot wells of the front passenger seat!

I can't imagine ever falling out with my son to the point that he would want to kill me. The trouble is probably not on the home front, but rather with the people the son hangs out with. As a parent, we all see our children change once they start school, taking on the habits and colloquialisms of their classmates. For us as parents, we see the innocence of our children fade away.

To read of such a story like this, saddens the heart.

Thenewfront, I agree with you completely! Japanese interpretation of 'crime' when it comes to foreigners is a bloody joke!

The cops here can't do anything to find wanted murderers, but they bust someone for a joint found in his lost wallet!

While I think that if you go to prison, you should not be given a life of luxury, I also think that in Japan, certain practices within Japanese prisons should be banned, such as allowing guards to tie prisoners up with leather shackles and make them eat like a dog.

I'm surprised Japan doesn't have more prison riots to be honest with the way that prisoners are treated here. Then again, it all starts at ground level with the laws that bind. While some people are sent to prison for stupid matters such as 'disorderly conduct', top officials of NHK and the government, manage to avoid prison because of their ties to the state.

One rule for us, another for them.

At the end of the day, all we can do is teach them bad English!

I've also had the odd scuffle with a Yakuza or three over the years. But I don't find them at all intimidating. Rather the other way around. If they think they're tough, they ought to try living on Moss Side in Manchester, UK. Yaks soon back off when they realize a person CAN look after themselves!
