The only reason these ungrateful women stay with their husbands who have given up their lives for them, is for the retirement money. I once met a guy and his son at a yattai stall, and the guy looked completely shocked and red-eyed. I asked his son what was wrong and he told me that very day his father had retired, and after almost 40 years of marriage, his wife divorced him and petitioned for 50% of all his savings and pension money (perfectly legal here in Japan). One can only hope there's some form of punishment in the afterlife for these greed ridden life-wasters.
If they had any sense of decency, they'd just go here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/japan/7350006/Japanese-women-flush-divorce-desires-down-the-temple-toilet.html

As someone who lives in the boonies in Western Japan, this train will continue to be a regular feature here at least...wonder how many train enthusiasts from Tokyo (et al) will contribute to the local economy by traveling here to see it?

My wife and I have been unhappy together for years - until recently. Nothing but NOTHING, is worth killing someone over. If you're not happy with your marriage either FIX IT, or LEAVE! If your partner threatens to kill himself/herself - DON'T let them hold you to emotional ransom with such a threat. Say "That's your choice, not mine!" - if they think they can't live without you, then they need to take a serious look at their own life and contemplate why they are relying on you to make them happy! I told my wife that I wasn't happy and I could see she wasn't happy either. I also told her that if she wanted to separate from me, we could do that, as I want her to be happy. That was last month. We're still together and she and I took a long hard look at why we were not happy together and have been working to resolve those problems. So far so good. She is Japanese, I'm English. I love my wife very much, enough to want to make amends and make things work. But if you're stuck in a relationship and there really is no hope to save it - leave it, but don't kill or injure your partner because you're not happy!

When I bought my new car 8 years ago, the cops spent three months following me around. They were on all my regular routes and my wife didn't believe me when I told her, until she sat in the back of the car on one of my regular runs. (The back of the car is black tinted windows, so no one can see inside). She made a complaint to the NPA and voila - suddenly zero cops to be seen anywhere. They came to my house once and accused me of breaking into another house several streets away. My lawyer had a field day with that one and the cop who accused me was fired! ha! In December last year, I had a run in with three yaks who were giving a J-friend of mine a hard time. The cops came and all but one were friendly towards me. He was berated though by an older cop.

There needs to be tougher laws in this country for drivers who fail to stop at a red light. Only the other day, some stupid driver came through a red light almost ten seconds after it was on red and nearly wiped my car out! I never let my kid out on his bike alone for fear he will be hit by a car.
Even though this light was on green, the crossing system was also on green. Another completely stupid system of road safety at work. RIP kid.

They state that the law is in place to stop kids being kept by 'abusive husbands' (should be 'fathers'). But what the law fails to do in protecting these kids, is realise that some mothers are abusive too!! But no, Japan believes that that is not important, only foreign parents are 'abusive', therefore the abducting Japanese parent has a safe haven when they return to Japan.
Japan needs to change this ruling and give up these fugitives to the respective countries.

I've been in Japan ten years now, and very very very happy that this has made international news. It's not a new story in terms of child kidnapping from other countries, but at least this particular case gives much needed air-time to a very difficult problem. Japan refuses to acknowledge arrest warrants by the FBI, Interpol and other organizations, where the Japanese parent has abducted kids from the country of their spouse. It is high time Japan stopped protecting these parents and respected the laws of the country from where they were taken. Just like those countries are expected to respect Japanese laws. In ten years, I have heard of numerous cases of such kidnappings, and not once has Japan lifted a finger or ear to the plight of the foreign parent. Shame on you Japan.

Being an English School owner of over 8 years of my 10 years here in Japan, I can both thank Nova and curse them. I had to close my school late last year as business dwindled in the aftershock of the Nova collapse. So curses on Nova for tainting the industry. However, as a businessman, I always look for the silver lining in every cloud, and I found it in this one. Corporate Training. Now, I'm not talking about just ordinary English lessons (or French, German and Spanish etc). I'm talking about real world, how-to-do-business and how-to-interact both in and out of the workplace when abroad. While this might not seem such a big deal to some, you would be surprised just how many companies are crying out for good teachers and at affordable pricing! I recently won a contract with a major corporation, after giving them two presentations and telling them why they should choose me over my rivals. My main points were: I'm a local business and hiring companies to teach their staff from Tokyo was costing them money. (I live far from Tokyo). Also, the fact that staff were required by outside companies to travel to their offices once or twice a month, racked up very expensive train fares/airfares. My offering was to work around the $100 per hour mark and given the state of the economy, both they and I were happy with that fee. After contracts were signed, beer was drunk and hands shaken, I later found out that another local school had tried all kinds of dirty tricks to scupper this job from under my feet. For the company, they didn't want to risk hiring a business that would resort to dirty tactics and likely con them into spending more money than was necessary.
If you're in the business of teaching here (and I do mean REAL teachers like myself, sorry, no offense to unqualified eigo no sensei's), there is money to be made in the light of NOVA's collapse. Offer your services to local businesses, but don't sell yourself short and don't come across as an Eikaiwa, at least not like Nova, Aeon or Geos, or even GABA and Berlitz for that matter. Those companies have had their chance and are all washed up. It's only a matter of time before we see more closures. Businesses are starting to wake up and smell the coffee, realizing that using modern technology and being different so that results are positively inevitable, is okay. The question is, can you brew and offer the right coffee for them to smell?

Don't turn this into a debate about abortion - stick with the story.
This is a sickening crime, one of the most evil things that could ever happen to a human being. My heart goes out to this young woman's family and I know she is in Heaven with her child now.
The rest of you, stop using such stories to ply your crap about abortion!
