@mistersmarmy seems to be completely unaware that they DID go back. Five times, in fact, after the first landing. Why don't they continue to go back and forth? It's an AIRLESS ROCK that is HIDEOUSLY EXPENSIVE to get to and from, and there just isn't much you can do once you get there except to collect a few souvenirs. Going there, and staying there, involves money that most people simply don't want to spend. Enormous money, with very, very, little possibility of any return on the investment, other than pure knowledge. Going there was pretty much a stunt, but it was a real stunt, not a faked stunt. People who believe otherwise probably believe in the Tooth Fairy, too.

They pitched to Ichiro with 1st base open and the game on the line in extra innings. You are not going to win too many baseball games with that kind of strategy.

"Ryoko Hirosue of the Oscar-winning film ‘Okuribito’" ...
Yeah, just about everyone in the film carted off a justly deserved award, except Ryoko. As usual, she overacted to the hilt, and didn't deserve one. Her appearance fees should definitely be discounted.

In this society, it's very, very hard to imagine someone suspected of a well publicized murder getting along without any support. Someone is supporting him, actively or passively, or both. If it's organized crime, the police should try putting unbearable heat on them, with the clear message that the status quo won't return until the suspect is in custody. "If you don't have him, find him," should be the message. This type of tactic usually produces results. Interrupt all revenue streams that you normally don't pay much attention to. Squeeze them. They won't like it, and the guy will turn up -- dead or alive.

How anyone can have a strong opinion on this question either way is simply beyond me. I can understand hope, and faith to an extent, but conviction about things we obviously know little about mystifies me.

There was no plan for a full invasion. It was a carrier-based raid, and all 4 of the carriers that raided Darwin were lost a few months later at Midway.

The kidnappings are terrible human tragedies for the families involved. Every effort should be made to return any citizens who might still be alive, and to account for those who are not.
But the nuclear issue is much larger. Period. It is enough to hold the knowledge about this issue in the background when negotiating with the DPRK. Forget about it? Of course not. But let it stand in the way of a much bigger issue? No, not that, either. We should not let the perfect become the mortal enemy of the good.
But we should sink any DPRK vessels that appear uninvited or unannounced in our waters -- without hesitation. No chasing. No warning shots. Just sink them immediately upon detection. Let the DPRK wait for the bodies to (they should hope) wash ashore on their own territory someday.
Maybe this is a better activity for the MSDF than going to Somalia, where plenty of others have already volunteered for piracy suppression.

Sarge ... it's called sekigaisen (infrared). It works, particularly at close range, no matter inside or outside.
I remember waiting for a train in Hokkaido. It was January, and must have been about -30. My jeans were slightly wet from snow, but the sun was shining on them, and steam was coming off.
Sekigaisen, folks.

Oh?
United Nations General Assembly Resolution no. 181 of 1947 (commonly known as the Palestine Partition Plan) recommended the creation from all of the lands of Mandatory Palestine west of the Jordan River, representing 22% of original Mandatory Palestine, a Jewish state (comprising slightly less than 11% of the Land), an Arab state (comprising slightly less than 11% of the Land) and an internationally-administered greater Jerusalem.
Not very legitimate I guess. ^_^
Now the Palestinians (and much of the Islamic world) have never accepted this, and subsequent waves of attacks have failed, with each attack seeing Israel get bigger, and Palestinian territory get smaller.
The 'Rule of Holes' surely must apply here: When you fine yourself in one (as the Palestinians do), stop digging.
In fact, however, the Palestinians seem not very smart. The smart thing for the Palestinians to do would be to "make peace", cause Israel to relax its guard (might take a long time, but so what), build up their population and their strength, and then finally overwhelm Israel.
But no, the Palestinians want to keep butting their heads against what is currently an impenetrable steel wall. If they keep it up, it's likely that they will finally have no territory adjacent to Israel from which they can ever prevail.
They seem not a very smart bunch, actually.
And as for Blue Tiger:
I cannot possibly imagine what your "Authority" is, but you might be right, and not for the reason you might imagine.
One of the deterrents to wiping out Israel is that the territory involved is so small that it is difficult to wipe it out without also wiping out all the adjacent Palestinians. So that is one reason it might not happen. But simply declaring that it will never happen doesn't turn a belief into a fact.

Don't be so sure 'C' will never happen. Human beings have a strong tendency to extrapolate the recent past into the future. Recently (for a generation or two), Israel has been quite strong.
But Israel simply doesn't have, nor will it ever have, one of the most vital security components: strategic depth. It saved Russia more than once. It saved China, and would save it again. It would save the US, too. But Israel is vulnerable to a wipe out because it lacks any semblance of strategic depth. Yes, Israeli submarines could make the perpetrator(s) pay, but Israel could be presented with the ultimate fait accompli: You no longer exist for all intents and purposes. It's really a very tiny place.
In fact, over the long term, it's unlikely Israel will be able to maintain the disproportionate military advantage it currently enjoys over its enemies and potential enemies. (Egypt is no longer an "enemy", but it's certainly a potential one.) The notion that a few million can hold off more than a hundred million, especially when the hundred million have a much higher fertility rate, is a dicey one. I would not care to bet the ranch on long-term Israeli survival, even though it looks quite existentially safe right now.

The question is rather simplistic, however, not really lending itself in any way to a serious "Yes" / "No" response. It's as if this Israeli action has all of a sudden spontaneously generated in a complete vacuum, which of course is obviously not the case.
Nobody likes civilian casualties. But one wonders where the "Do you agree that Hamas has a right to shoot 80 rockets a month into Israel?" question was, before Israel decided they had had enough and needed to take action.
I think Hamas is so much like the Japanese Army during the 1930s that it isn't funny. They cannot win. And eventually they will provoke Israel to the point (maybe they have already) that Israel will do something even Israel will come to regret. Something so ugly that it will make what's happening now look like a spring afternoon at 新宿御苑.

It's easy to condemn Israel. But no country would accept an adjacent state randomly firing rockets into its territory. This would be an act of war, period.
Israel doesn't make it easy for the Palestinians to make peace, and they can roundly be criticized for that. But that doesn't entitle Hamas to lob rockets into Israel whenever they feel like it.
Furthermore, Hamas does not accept the reality of Israel. Their plan is to make all Israelis leave, or die. It's hard to feel sorry for people with an attitude like that.

For memyselfl:
It's obvious that you are ignorant about Japanese traffic laws. Let me (try to) enlighten you.
The LEGAL SPEED LIMIT (means the legal speed limit on ANY unmarked road) is 60 KPH. So "speeding" wasn't "speeding" on a narrow, (unmarked) road. I don't care where it is. Unless the speed is marked otherwise by sign, the legal limit for motor vehicles other than mopeds is 60 KPH. Pure and simple, and widely known. (Not that 60 KPH will set any land speed records of course.)
Now be a good gaijin and go to driving school so that you know what you are writing/talking about.
