the_sicilian, America blocked the placing of factories in Okinawa when it would of been possible to build them. About what Okinawa city has done, well that is their business. This island does not belong to America and the troops are guests. Lastly there are not enough Marines to protect it from the Chinese. Kadena AFB offers a lot more "protection". A conflict with China will be in the South China Sea.If they can break through those defenses, the Marines and their families would make good hostages.

I would like to think that Americans have "outgrown" these wrongs. However I wonder if it could happen again? A lot of Americans are in denial or have made excuses.

Spidapig24, they were American and Canadian citizens. Some were resident aliens but they were residents of the USA and Canada. Clue someone born in the USA is an American citizen with very few exceptions. What the Japanese did is of no concern. These people were America's and Canada's own people with the exception they were of Japanese ethnically. globalwatcher, this is not over until America undoes all it did wrong. In America Constitution protections apply to all and not just the majority ethic group.

Yubaru, the national government has signed over soventry of Okinawa to a foreign power. They would rather have most of the Americans in Okinawa away from the "home islands". So this joker gets drunk and shows his true feelings. Yubaru. Did you know the Americans can take over control over any part of Okinawa for security reasons? They are still the masters of Okinawa and most Okinawan people hate it. Full sovereignty needs to be restored to Okinawa and the bases controlled by Japan with America as tenants. Nothing has changed from my childhood.

If war was declared the day before, nothing would of changed. Spidapig24, the battleships of Pearl Harbor were obsolete. The lacked proper air defenses, radar, proper fire control. If they would of been caught at sea, they would of all been sunk. They were slow, 20 something knots, the Japanese battleships had bigger guns and were 10 knots faster. About Roosevelt, do not think he knew. The Americans were unprepared for the Japanese attack, or they got caught with their pants down.

Yubaru, my family told be about how the Japanese treated us prior to the Steel Typhoon. It was very poor and they killed us often for our inability to speak Japanese. I was born well before reversion and can attest to the poor treatment the Americans inflicted upon us. Grew up a second class person in my own country and the Americans to this day think they are punishing the war mongers. So this Japanese government official spouted some biased nonsense. Alcohol had him speaking the truth, he and the others need to attend "sensitivity" training. That beats the guy being fired from one government job only to be given another. I am wise to the Japanese government and their lies.

globalwatcher, so you are saying the government can do what it wants? The government violated the 14th amendment and it was never put right. Giving back the land or paying fair market value to the descendants is a start. The government of the United States betrayed citizens of their country and only because they were of Japanese descent. Again what about their 14th amendment rights?

Well the United party only got 220 seats, less than 50%. Unless the election is overturned there might be hope for democracy in Russia.

globalwatcher, actually you are wrong. The government using the power of government can buy the land and then give it to the ancestors of those who were rob of it. Cost, true justice is worth it, otherwise the term"land of the free" is a sick joke. I call it treason because it violates so much of the constitution. Civil rights violations makes it a much lessor crime. Again about the current owners, well their ancestors stole the land. Getting current land value is more than they deserve.

globalwatcher, you are comparing citizens, citizens with captive soldiers. They did nothing wrong but be of Japanese ancestry. Where you go wrong is thinking of them as Japanese Americans and Canadians, instead of calling them American and Canadian citizens. This was the mistake of those that put them in camps as well. Makes me wonder why they do not call it government treason against these citizens? The government needs to restore their land to them.

globalwatcher, you really do not get it. These were not Japanese citizens or soldiers. They were citizens of Canada and the United States. What the Japanese did has nothing to do with this story. The government of Canada and the United States put in camps (prisons) without due process but just because they or their ancestors came from Japan.

Yubaru, there has to be another plan than defiling our coral reefs. How about putting a runway in Camp Hansen? There use to be an airfield there.

freeman2011, the "victims" seem well enough. The Japanese in WWII would of really did a number to them. None of this kiddy water boarding and when done with them, lop off their heads and throw the bodies in the burnable trash. Right or wrong he did what he thought was best at the time. America had been attacked and another attack was possible perhaps with a nuke. Do not think we will ever know the full story. Again leave the man alone! Putin needs to be put on trial first for allowing torture, unwarranted arrest of political foes and murder of his foes. What this "man" has done makes President Bush look like a boy scout.

What is nice about this car is I can park it at my mums house in Okinawa City. It would fit nicely in the open space next to the front door. Otherwise I have to park blocks away or in the street risking parking ticket. Now I take the bus to see most of the time due to parking.

lincolnman, my proposal is to downsize MCAS Futenma in Place. Make it the size and location of the old Japanese base. All private land returned and reroute the flight paths to minimize overflights of populated areas. It will be at least as big as the new airfield, which is not very large or how about no new runway at swab but landing pads. The helicopters do not need runways. They do not need racetrack patterns as well. Make Swab rotary wing only. Please save our coral reefs!

People have the wrong ideal about me. I am not anti American but anti new airfield. Am not against Futenma as long as the Americans do not fly F-18's into there and move the Threshold 3 thousand feet or more past where it is now. The runway is long enough for a 747, no need to land on the stripes. In fact my ideal of reducing the size to government land only will work. Back to the ex President, Putin has become dictator or Russia, throwing his opponents into Prison. The Chinese are worse and both use worse that a little water. No this Bush bashing is American bashing at it's best. Leave the man alone!
