And the chinese government still hasn't gotten it into their thick skulls that you CAN'T CONTROL…
It seems no thread is complete without NetNinja's overly long, pointless, insane State of the Union…

bam_boo, I agree with you on this issue. I also blame Tokyo and not Washington. The Americans would be STUPID to turn down free bases. It is up to Tokyo tor represent the hopes and desires of the Okinawa people. Again "anti-base" is not anti-American. okimike67, clearly you do not know me, the head of my church is the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Spidapig24, your leaders have done far worse. More President Bush and American bashing. Leave the man alone in his retirement.

Star-viking, very nicely stated! stands up and claps. You are so right Brazil has never done offensive operations and their carrier is limited to 35 aircraft. An American carrier has a full strike force, fighters, bombers, ew and control aircraft, tankers and more. Then add to this there will be at least 2 American carriers given time 6 or more. Then add their tasks force, all balance with many years of training and operating tougher. Again the Chinese carrier should have "sink me" written on its side. It is more a threat to its own crew than to others.

Yabaru, pardon me but you sound like one at times. Think things would be different if the people of Okinawa had input to where the bases on Okinawa were located. Having things rammed down your throat causes problems. Remember being anti new airfield is not anti American but pro coral reef. Anyone like my ideal of a much smaller Futenma? Just big enough for the small runway, hangers, fuel tanks, etc. No barracks or recreation since they can be billeted on nearby Foster.

Spidapig24, my point is Pakistan is America's enemy and needs to be treated as such. Sanctions need to be brought against them like Iran. America needs to bring the Taliban and Afghanistan government tougher in direct peace talks. There is not a military solution possible.

Spidapig24, think the SDF wants an increase in budget and is using this as an excuse. So you really think Brazil will train the Chinese Navy? Not in their best interests, and so you are saying China still has a grudge against Japan? If this is true relations with China and trading with them is not in Japans bests interest.

Yubaru, very typical response from an American service person stationed in Okinawa. So the American in Okinawa would come after me? Guests of the Tokyo government upset with a lowly Uchinanchu who does not know her place. Well get over it! It is a privilege the American troops can be stationed in Okinawa and not a right. I would like to see the wrongs of the SOFA before the base agreement is done. I see nothing changing for the next 5 years or so. MCAS Futenma will remain open, the new airfield will not get built. The blather from Tokyo and Washington will increase. There is one thing Uchinanchu and our friends the Americans SOFA and non-SOFA need to get along. We can disagree with the politics and still be friends. Anyhow it does not matter what either of us thinks, so I hold out my hand tomodashi Yabaru.

Patrick Hattman, sure they have the right to buy and build carriers. However they have no experience at building, operating and maintaining. Americans have been flying planes off of ships for over 90 years. Been flying jets off of carriers for over 6o years. China is going to have to work hard to catch up to the Americans. One thing who is going to train their pilots to land their planes and crew to man the carriers?

Spidapig24, Pakistan help hide America's #1 enemy for at least 5 years and probably longer. Would not have taken much work by them to track him down. Next Pakistan is the #1 supplier for the Taliban and weapons and weapons material. Gee that is an act of war. Pakistan is a good reason to have a missile defense network. Attacks on supply convoys, do their intelligence services provide their schedules to make attacking them easier? Lastly has Pakistan trained the new Taliban terrorists? Does any of this make them America's "critical" ally?

Triumvere, perhaps but did they also vote to trash the British Embassy and force all of the staff to leave? Their actions and or inaction are responsible for the closing of the British Embassy.

If the government of Japan wanted to do something "useful", it would build a restricted access road right across Kadena. While the American operation was nice, they put themselves first by not going near the Fukushima disaster area. They are people too! How many people died because of this action? Am positive the Government of Japan was extra slow as usual. Not to blame the Marines since they would of gone in anyhow but it was their government. Americans for the most part overflow with compassion. Still the Minister pays lip service to the people of Okinawa by firing this person. His replacement will just get less drunk at the next party. It will change nothing as always.

Raymasaki, 311 was mainland Japan. Operation Tomodachi did nothing for Okinawa. Anywho they could of come in from Guam or another of the islands near it. While it is true they sometimes help, however the bases themselves block the routes of emergency vehicles. Try driving from the Okinawa City Chu area (gate 2) to Kadena circle (gate 4). Note you can not drive through the base. Then record how long it would take you. Drive back through the base and recored the time. How long did it take you? Get the picture?

lincolnman, the government of Okinawa never signed off on "2006 Alliance Transformation and Realignment Agreement". Thus we feel not obligated to honor its terms. Sort of like the old Imperial days when Tokyo sent directives to the lessor people of Okinawa "for their own good". okimike67, the Americans paid very small amounts of "rent". The amount was a sick joke and does not constitute rent. About what my mum said, lots of other people said it as well. Then add my own experiences of growing up during the American occupation. The condescending attitude of the Americans made life difficult. They were the Lords and Ladies of Okinawa and we were their servants. We were their to serve them and in a lot of ways this has not changed.

At least Japan can build new ships unlike China which needed to buy an old one from a former Soviet State. As I said the sodai gomi the Chinese call a "carrier" is no problem. After cleaning up it will make a great artificial reef.
