NeverSubmit, they are responsible for the safety of the diplomats and the Embassy and property. I think the Iranian government was behind it as well. Question will the embassy reopen? The Iranian government has had it chance to go through the British top secret. Will they trust them to protect their Embassy?

The Okinawa land owners get paid by the government of Japan and have been since reversion in 1972. The Okinawa people were mislead that the bases were to be removed with reversion. The American government did nothing for the Okinawa people during the 27 year occupation. How much are they paid? Well got me there, I do not know. It is not as much as you would think. An acre is a large plot of land in Okinawa. So here we stand, the Americans get so many perks and all they can do is complain. If Tokyo punishes Okinawa perhaps it would be time to go to the next step through the world court and United Nations. The land controlled by the Americans is a lead weight to the people of Okinawa. The SOFA agreement subsidies Americans, they should at least pay the same amount for tags, JCI and fuel tax. The Americans provide bus service it is a luxury they can drive.

globalwatcher, think of a foreign power taking your house by force and receiving no rent for 27 years. Then receiving rent from then on from your government. You will be made homeless, put in a concentration camp for 2 years. One or more of your family is killed, your job is gone and if you are "lucky" the foreign power will let you go through their garbage. Oh add foreign troops who for 27 years ere not accountable to what passed as local government. The current SOFA agreement leaves a lot to be desired. I say it should be redone, like Iraq all SOFA crimes will be under the jurisdiction of Japanese law first, US second. Iraq said no to the US SOFA as dictated, Japan should as well. Japan has a much better defense force and no rebels.

Okimike67, well the land was stolen at the point of a gun, the thief gets another to pay rent on the stolen land. There were 27 years in which no payment was received. The Governor of Okinawa is not going to sign the permits. If money is taken away from Okinawa, the Okinawan people will have to increase their pressure on the bases. Anyhow Mike, my mum says the Americans took the land by force. This includes force long after the war was over. The taking of "enemy" land is thus a bunch of crap.

Sixty train car or sixty train sets? The bribe can not be very big at these prices.

America should drop Pakistan as a "friend" and start treating them like a foe. The world picks on Iran and North Korea for devolving nukes but these chappies have them and the means to deliver them. They hid the #1 foe of America for 10 years and most of the explosive, etc comes from Pakistan to Afghanistan. Clue Americans, find a new route for your supplies.

Invade China? Never heard of anything more STUPID. For once I believe the Peoples Republic Government, this carrier is not much of a threat to anyone. Stupid thing has a ski jump on it, limited to vtol or stol aircraft. Not a lot of them at that perhaps 20 or so. It was made in the "workers" paradise and has quality control problems. My guess is this will be a learning and training platform. The new generation of carriers built by them will be dangerous. About Japan having carriers, well they have a lot of sea to patrol from Hokkaido to the last island in Okinawa and from Tsushima to Iwoto. There is a legitimate reason for search and rescue.

okimike67, too bad the majority of the Okinawa disagree. There will be a lot of headaches and hangovers after the Americans leave. The Americans left the PI and the world did not end. Anyhow there is NOTHING the government in Tokyo can do, the ball is in the Okinawa Governors court and he is saying firmly no to the construction permits. Suppose the Americans can break into his office and make him an offer he could not refuse. Sigh the permits or get shot. I do not see the Americans doing this dirty deed. So the new northern airfield is dead, what next?

Putin is putting more pressure on its relationship with America. Any opposition parties that have a chance of winning are already in prison. This election i a sick joke and Putin is trying to draw attention from this fact.

Marriage is work, marriage is about compromise. These days people are taught that their own needs come first and come now. The Japanese men are overgrown babies too often than not. Having someone at your side who you can truly count on is more important than appearances. My first spouse died of cancer and through the grace of god found another. Yes I think the young men and women expect too much in marriage. This is what drives cheating and divorce. Remember your spouse is not a "prince" or "princess" and work tougher for a successful marriage. Marriage is a "work in progress" and is never a done thing. Again the reason so many are alone is they are not willing to compromise.

Because most South Koreans are anti American. All they see is something benefiting American corps which will hurt working Americans but they want nothing to benefit America. Really another riot is Seoul is not really news.

There is another "solution" and that is make MCAS Futenma much smaller, giving back the land belonging to the private land owners. Keeping only the land of the original Japanese base. It will be small, helicopters only.

smithin japan, the new airfield is costly and not a true replacement of MCAS Futenma. One it is finish it will be discovered that MCAS Futenma will have to remain open. It is too expensive to move the marines. Anywho I would rather see MCAS remain open than the destruction of the Coral reef off of Swab. Again the Govorner of Okinawa will not sign the permits. Case closed on the new airfield. Next comes the effort to close MCAS Futenma, no land swaps, no deals. If the marines on Okinawa can not be supported, move them to Australia. Sayonara and thanks for nothing. Tokyo is going to have and learn its lesson. Make no deals with foreign powers without the consent of the people it effects. Okinawa needs to go to the world court.

The Governor will not give up, the construction permits will not be signed. Unless another applies only to Okinawa laws gets past this is the end for the new airfield. The Americans can talk to Tokyo until judgement day and nothing will change.

Pakistan is not a friend of NATO or the Americans. They have nukes and the missiles to deliver them. America should wake up, treat them like the foe they are and do what it takes to win. Pakistan is behind the war in Afghanistan, anyone who says otherwise is a fool. I suspect the people killed were not "innocents".

bass4Funk, am not sure I like either system. Children are being treated like property given only the respect of such. Also I know better women in America have been known to block access of the father to the children as well. I think both systems leave lot to be desired.

They get a permit to drive vehicles. The issuing authority is the base authorities. Last one I saw was a piece of paper the size of a license, no picture. They are only suppose to drive Y or A plate cars with the exception of rentals. Too many tickets and the base suspends the permit. About being harder on military and Y plate vehicles. I am not sure myself. My guess is the Japanese police would rather not deal with a no Japanese speaking person unless they could not avoid it.

RealJapan, laws in Japan are different. In America unless there is signs of extreme negligence there are no charges. In Japan it is against the law to get in an accident and considered Professional negligence resulting in injury/death. Ahain they pulled his license for 5 years. He had to have done something.

Newsman, fair enough then you would agree if they were residing in Japan, then Japan should make the ruling? Do not think this will end well, my guess is the lady will remain in jail and not be able to see her kid until she is 18. Still let this be a lesson to other Japanese ladies bring their kids back from a bad marriage in America, Whatever you do do not return to the USA.

notasap, other than for a few missiles; North Korea does not have the ability to attack Japan. Anyhow the North has a much bigger worry than Japan and it is called the Republic of Korea. Unless the Peoples Republic of China sends forces, the Republic of Korea should easily be able to defeat a smaller population bankrupt North. As far as I know no Japanese want to die to protect the ROK. The crap their politicians and people say make me see red.
