zichi, I would move in there but need a nice house to live in :) The government has people scared STUPID. People live in the wastes of our industrial society do not think about the cancer risks. Then there is the ash that is left over from burning coal. It is a real problem in the USA and once it got into the Kentucky river fouling it. Lord knows if it was ever properly cleaned and I would bet the ash is above background radiation levels as well.

Really people atomic power has it dangers but so does burning coal, gas and oil. Again the press has them scared STUPID.

zichi, 20 milliservants a year is very low. Even a 100 is not that high and a lot of places (not within a contaminated zone) have radiation levels that high or higher. "Normal" background in the USA is about 6.2 a year and then you can add extra from medical, travel, other sources. What surprises me is how worried you are about this source but are clueless about the dioxgens being made from sub par incinerators. Oh people produce 2000 plus becquerels in their own bodies from normal radioactive decay.

Why should they share anything with Argentina? The Falklands is not part of their country.

plasticmonkey, the nuke threat is overblown. So they have a few clumsy devices. They are much more of a threat to the ROK than Japan. If they manage to light one off, it would be the last thing they do! Also people will discover what high radiation really means. Japan should stay out of the talks, it distracts from the talks which in the end is north/south relations.

Japan should start drilling in its own EEZ. If China wants to stop selling to Japan, then so be it! Sanctions can be imposed on them by the WTC.

FullM3taL, the radiation is low, very very low. Research background radiation and tell me what you find. Under 20 milliservants a year is not a lot. 6.2 milliservants a year is what most Americans get from background radiation. So they are getting 3 times nothing.

The people of the Falklands want to be part of the Commonwealth. Theses islands were never under the control of Argentina except for a short time in 82. The UK should send a Trident sub to patrol off of Argentina.

notasap, if Japan loses this supply they are in deep trouble. China and Korea will use this to increase their exports at the expense of Japan. Now if the USA would replace this supply with oil from Alaska it would be different.

zichi, the amount of radiation is very very small. Oh not much more than background and not even background in a lot of places on earth. I think northeast Oklahoma is higher than that number due to drilling for oil.
About the money, I would rather be living in my own home. However TEPCO still would owe money to people that can not work if the exclusion zone is the reason. Really the government is making the people scared STUPID. What about the other pollution problem in Japan from dioxgens, mercury, lead and others. Am sure living in an industrial area of Japan is the cause of a drastic increase in cancer and death rates. However nobody is addressing these issues.

Wonders where these people get their information. The dose for flight crews over the Pacific is 9 milliservants a year, plus the 6.2 background. Smoking 30 cigarettes a year is 60 to 80 a year. Oh parts of Europe and India have a background of 50 or 2.5 times the contaminated zone? As I said a lot of the information provided by the press is fear mongering. They have managed to scare the people stupid to sell papers and air time.

Konsta, so tell me why Japan should invest in Russia, only to lose their shirts again? It looks to me like Russia wants to steal money and make it look like Japans fault. Second becoming dependent on Russian gas/oil is dangerous. Russia can always do a shutoff of the supply for economic or political reasons. They did it at least twice to the Ukraine and Europe.
I just do not see any reason why Japan should sign a peace agreement or invest in Russia. Japan takes it chances buying coal, gas and oil from Russia. If it becomes too much of a percentage any stoppage would do real damage to the Japanese economy, perhaps even leading to deaths. The Americans, Chinese and Koreans would laugh themselves sick at that prospect. Corporate Japan is in trouble, so from my perspective getting dependent on Russia is dangerous. Tell me where my thinking is wrong?

AmericanForeigner, how can you ask people not to stare if you do not speak Japanese? Do you get angry and raise your voice? So what do you do if they do not stop?

sflip330, no Japan is not afraid of Russia. We can hold our own against their military and the Americans would help in any event. The Russians would not gain anything by attacking Japan. Anyhow Russia has more to gain than Japan and they are not offering to return the 2 islands or allow the former residents to return to the other 2 islands. Putin will not make a deal because he needs to be the "tough" guy to win the next election. He is going to strain relations with Japan for his own internal politics. Really these talks need to stop, since they are so counterproductive.

NetNinja, like to think of myself as a person. I am NOT Japanese but from Okinawa. My guy paid to have my genetics check and there is more than just a bit of Chinese in me. I married for love and not have a "trophy husband". My life is not at all strange and I find the people living around me to be people. However when you marry a person from a different country, you have to accept them as who they are and not try and get them to conform to your views. Living in a blended household takes work.

Konsta, I do not think ANYTHING will improve Japans image. Japan proves to be popular sport all across the world. I think the worse insult is Russia is trying to invest money to develop resources that were stolen from Japan. Second a peace treaty with Russia is not worth the paper it is printed upon. Look at the past agreements with Russia, have they kept any of them? What about the LNG plant in which Russia stole Japans share paying them back a small amount of their investment.

My guy says it is not worth a single American life to try and keep the peace in Iraq. I agree with him and America needs to pull all of the way out. Iraq needs to clean its own house and it will take an internal political solution to end the fighting.

Konsta, clearly you are a Russian. Japan settled its problems with Russia and signed a non aggression pact. Japan did not kill all of those Russians though they killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese. What people forget is all of the Japanese civilians in Manchuria, Korea and China.
You got it backwards, I see the Russian government as the enemy. The Great Russian people are slaves to their demands and whims.
