Suddenly, McLellan is god. For the same people who thought he lies through his teeth. Amazing how things can change.

" So now I can hate them for being not only terrorists but sexists as well. "

I don`t know what that is supposed to mean. The inferior status of women and of non-muslims is part of the basic islamic doctrine. That is what political islam is incompatible with modernity (which believes in equal rights and equal laws for all).

There really is nothing new here. The amazing thing is that these women are so ignorant about their own religion.

Not really. I mean bloody murders are regular newsfare over there too, but a woman secretly squatting in someones closet for a year? I have never heard anything like that before.

    telecasterplayer:

" Supposedly the Tokyo Police examined the missing woman's apartment and didn't stumble across a gruesome crime scene akin to butcher shop like the guy claimed. Either they missed evidence, or he cleaned up REAL good.. "

No, he took her back to his apartment, where he did the butcher work in between his TV appearances. The cops only interviewed him at his door initially. Had the bothered to look inside his apartment, they would have found the bloodbath in his bathroom cubicle. Very similar to the Lindsay Hawker incident; same police procedure

George Bush does not run the world economy. The oil market and its result on food prices are global.

About "gaikokujin", careful. I have heard reports of black servicemen in Roppongi, hearing that, misinterpreting it because of limited Japanese knowledge (they only heard the "kokujin" part), and proceeding to beat up people.

This whole "gaijin" debate is stupid. A word is what you put into it. Without context, you can`t judge it.

High oil prices + divertion of foodstuff for "biofuel" + market worries about future oil supplies (Iran, Hormuz straights etc).

This is hardly rocket science. Expect this trend to continue. The age of endless supply of cheap oil is over.

Good grief, not this tired old discussion again. Of course there are some racist gaijin haters in Japan, but you don´t change that meddling with the language. Whatever new politically super-correct term you come up with, anyone using can still make it sound derogatory if he/she wants to.

Words change if reality changes... you don´t change reality by changing words.

This is scary. What would have happened if the sniffer dog had picked it up and the handlers were just as incompetent as the officer who planted this stuff? Another Nick Baker story?

Surely they don´t need to endanger unsuspecting travellers to test their sniffer dogs!

The idea to legislate low oil prices is ridiculous. Food prices are also rising, maybe next the democrats claim a world-wide conspiracy by farmers? There is no end to the stupidity and short-sightedness of these political demagogues.

" The U.S. ambassador to Iraq said Saturday that al-Qaida’s network in the country has never been closer to defeat "

Unadulterated BS. Al-Quaida represents pure, literal Sunni islam, and will re-appear everywhere where where fundamentalist imams preach in mosques.

The US ambassador only once again demonstrates that the US administration (this one as well as the democratic one to come in next year) is clueless about the problem the Western world is facing.

    Super Delegate:

" that doesn't necessarily make it a sort of field manual for the entire Ummah " "

Actually, it is a field manual for the entire Ummah. Even moderate muslims agree that the Koran must not be criticized, never, ever, ever. Which is why this whole Western idea of blanking out the "islam" aspect from the islamic jihad is so futile.

Of course, there are plenty of moderate muslims. The problem is that they are not very muslim, i.e. they don`t have a theological leg to stand on. OBL and his fellow travellers have the word of god on their side.

"Kuwabata said she has slimmed down from 63 kg to 56.5 kg, after practicing the dance for six weeks."

Sure, but wouldn`t she have had the same effect practicing any old dance for that time, or doing any exercise? Just running around the block would do, if she just sticks to it.

The only people who win with this gimmick are the ones who sell the video or the book or whatever they are a hawking.

    Betzee:

" This book is sacred to Muslims, a rare point of agreement amongst Iraqis carrying on ancient feuds at great cost to everyone. What any of us think of it, or religion in general, is irrelevent "

This is so totally wrong on so many levels. Not all Iraqis are muslims, and the Koran is not sacred for Yazidis, Mandeans, or Christians... those who remain after the last few years of brutal attacks by muslims, both Sunni and Shia. And religion is not irrelevant at all here. It is the Koranic teaching of jihad against unbelievers until they are all in submission under Shariah which is basis for the jihadist terror in Iraq, both of Sunni and Shia persuation.

To say sorry about the soldier who shot the thing is OK. To kiss the book of conquest is quite another; it is a public symbol of submission under the only true religion -- and it only confirms to the Jihadist that they are right. The next logical step would be the mass conversion of the US to islam... something that Ahmedinejad has already called for in his letter to Bush.

This is so very wrong and show so clearly how the US government still does not get at all what we are all up against. (Of course, in that they are not different from many posters here.)
