Yeah, I checked the deals and you are way wrong, read the small print.
But got for the IPhone deals that are offered but don't be surprised when you get hit for exceeding the limits on your deal.
Remember this is "Japan Today" and we talk about Japan NOT anywhere else.
Seen the fees in New Zealand $200 for the phone than $250 monthly for 2 years + packages.

News this morning said "No holes" to attach a strap. This will aqain NOT appeal to the japanese market.

Hmm, how can a monk be married? How can a protestant priest have a wife, etc?
Most shrines/temples in japan are family run/owned and marrying a guy that will take over a shrine is a good proposition for most ladies.

As for the touch-panel interface, nothing new most digi-cams been using it for a long time.
One-seg and Saifu-keitai not being supported will also impact sales in Japan. Most likely little impact outside japan though.

Yeah, watched it too. Also the phone function didn't want to come up for some time. He also fluffed the first resizing of the image.
Said that Apple so far had a few probs when demoing their stuff.
Myself don't think there is a big market for the IPhone in japan. Most japanese like to text one-handed and I don't think it can handle that easily. Also all I have seen so far had an english interface. Waiting to see how easy it will be to enter japanese text.
As for the IPhone being cheaper than japanese smartphones not really when you take all the charges, 2-year contract, etc into account. Yeah, the upfront money is low but they hit you every month for 2 years to make up for it.
Also the packet deal you get hurts when browsing the net as you don't view sites designed for cels(imode, etc) but real web-pages which are a LOT heavier in data, etc.
Lets wait and see.

****As for convenient stores, wouldn't a good start be to put doors on all the refrigeration units?****
Some stores use such a system, my local 7-11 the drink coolers are actually part/front of the refrigerated store-room. They restock the shelfs from behind/inside of the store-room.

As can my Windows PC using world-time clock and the correct settings. Heck even the ol wrist-watch I bought 9yrs ago updates to DST settings automatically.
Poor old wrist-watch, tracks 4 time-zones(plus DST), don't need battery(charges from light), safe up to a depth of 30 metres, 24hr display even though she is analog. Good old watch only goes wrong by 1 second every 1.000.000years(slaved to an atomic clock and updates daily).
Just kidding. Not about my watch though, but today there is no excuse for not knowing DST times in other countries.

Agree with xeno.
Healthy life-style alone won't protect you. Way more factors involved.
How many athletes died young? Yeah, they had the best guidance, nutrition, etc.
Example: Cancer/depression/etc can hit anyone it don't care about life-style, nutrition, etc.
How many Top-earners turned to drugs, etc? They had everything and yet they still got hit.

I agree on the manual/automatic confusion.
Back home we got ONE licence MANUAL/Stick-shift, if you want to drive an automatic after that feel free.
Never understood the distinction between an automatic and stick-shift licence. If you can drive stick-shift you can drive an automatic.
Also think that a stick-shift is better for Town-travel and more economical. Automatic is good for long-distance travel when few gear shifts are needed. Automatic gear-shift has been proven to be slower than manual gear-shift.
Most Bikes and Racing cars still rely on changing gears manually (granted some are semi-automatic).
Just my view.
Dons asbestos suit.

I am with flammenwerfer.
Myself done the 9~5 grind plus 24/7 callout, often 2~3 a night. That includes driving to work, fixing the problem and than going home again. Some nights I just said screw it and stayed at the company.
Nevermind that sunday evenings was scheduled maintenance time on the mainframe(4 hours). System cut-overs, taking a system/client in-house often resulted in 72hrs works non-stop.
Can't recall how often I stayed at work after a call-out to start the 9~5 grind, or how often I got home showered/changed and went back to work. Did we get time off for being on call-out, NO-WAY JOSE.
There were months where I "tripled" my salary with over-time.
Yep, played heck with my private life, yeah, I earned a lot but couldn't keep a GF that would stick with me.
2:00am get paged. Sorry luv need to go if I am not back just close the door when you leave.
Japanese company, not even close. I worked for an American company at that time(some 12+yrs ago).
Japanese companies are NOT worse than any others out there.

GW.
Did you see my comment about the previous DST attempt in Japan?
But I think times have changed at least that is what I get from other parents at my sons primary school.
Things are changing, yes slowly and quietly but the change is there.

How many women in western companies can come back to their own jobs after maternity leave? Few in my experience, yeah they are guaranteed a job but it don't mean the same one.

I am with DenshaDeGo.
Remember working as a contract worker for Hitachi in their firmware division. You know the guys that program the computer chips for earthquake sensors, etc.
Most of the bosses shaved AFTER coming to the office, etc wednesday was a NON-overtime day NONE left earlier than on other days.
In short the guys left work late came in and did their morning toilet at the office.
Interestingly enough, most of the contractors were chinese, etc earning about 200.000/month.

What can a gun do that a tazer can't?
And, yes, I am aware of the international rule about owning a tazer. If you want one you need to get tazered first yourself.
Been there, done it and it was NOT fun. Heck we needed paramedics to remove the hooks on some guys.
Yet, a tazer will only work if both probes/needles hit.

I am with cleo.
A bed is good for people that got knee or hip problems and thus cannot easily move from a ground position. If a futon is well aired/beaten(daily) it is just as soft and comfy as a mattress.
Heck when I was young we used to air/beat our duvets daily.
