Grafitti is a crime, nothing more. Don't matter if it is here or overseas. Trying to make lite of it because it happens somewhere else tells me a lot about you.
Just because it is the norm and become acceptable/understandable "back home" don't make it acceptable some place else.

I try to see beyond the act to the underlying motives and they are the same just different degrees.
Guess none of you guys ever did stupid things in your youth. We all know that JT posters are angels and poster-children for correct behaviour.

Explanation:
All about the "Me first" culture.
Let me be the first to deface this wall/train(ie leave my mark). If I do something horrible "I" will be remembered even if "I" am dead.
There is a pattern may it be grafitti, writing on a world heritage site, etc it is all about people leaving their mark to be remembered and stand out from the crowd.
Same can be said for punks whatever across the ages.
Ad to that the internet age and the feeling "I can't be traced"(so wrong), etc and you got a new brand of whackos doing bad stuff.
For me the problem is not the guy who did but the society that failed him. Look at the tons of parents that use game-stations, TV, etc as a substitute baby-sitter, etc.

Yeah, because grafitti on trains for me is a sign of social values dropping.
Today they paint on trains tomorrow ....

Taka.
Agree, yet again how much influence does the President truly yield. If already know that Hitler during the WWII was exploited by the SS and Gestapo for his military mind but held little true power.
He was a puppet used for his benefits.

Agree (sorta), for me the problem is not the candidates but the people voting for them.
Too many swallow the party-line. IMO, Not about patriotism either.
IME and IMO, few elected politicians can cause a change in a 4yr tenure as they directions have been decided long before they were put forward/elected.

Haven't seen the show as I am in Japan.
But for me "reality" shows are NOT real. Granted they don't follow a script but the producers still guide the shows.
What we see in the edits has been cut/edited to the show producers liking.
Look at most of the reality shows, there are still tons of crews and interviews with the producers who say do this and that.
Worst are the "reality" survivor shows on discovery, etc showing a guy "surviving" dangerous environments. Never mind the 4~7 people crew that follow him got GPS, radio, heli, etc on standby.
Watched a recent episode of an SAS guy climbing up a crack in a mountain, it was soo tough that a non-sas guy holding a camera could follow him and another guy on top was waiting for him(again with camera).
It is all fake and anyone with 2 brain-cels can see through it.

Nordon.
I said war not military service.
And by that Kennedy, McCain, etc are more qualified than bush who never left the states.
Said that military service is a good thing, IMO, and should be experienced by all males.
Would cut down a lot of problems, IMO.

My point is the same as a guy saying that he claims to understand what his pregnant wife goes through but has never been there.
Yes, we can claim to understand and feel for the person but do we truly understand.
Chose that example as I can relate as I watched my wife through 9 months of pregnancy and Postpartum Depression. Will I ever truly understand what she went through, honest answer = NO WAY. That is my point. And no argument can convince me otherwise.
Same with war, you won't know it unless you been there.
I accept your views, etc and apologize for mistaking you,

Skip.
Again who decides which countries are worthy of their help? Question your leaders. Do they follow your ideals, etc.
If not stop them.

Grafitti is still fairly new to Japan.
Plus, train companies got an image to uphold. Nothing wrong with that, I have been to the states, etc and seen grafitti-covered trains and felt sad.
If you thing grafitti is cool and accepted you are in a different world to mine.
Lets look at the japanese students writing on a world heritage site in italy, that is grafitti too.
Nothing against people expressing their views but they should NOT devalue other peoples property by doing so.
The remains of the Berlin Wall, etc are also covered in grafitti now, those guys just don't care where they put their mark.

I understand and got no complaints with you or any other vet owning the sands. And I am not even american But I am against people selling the sands for profit, when neither the seller and/or buyer been there.
Said that japanese have a custom to collect water and sand from shores they visited. Again nothing wrong as it is for personal use, a memento.
For me this is not about Iwo-Jima but more about greed and turning a buck.
Even as a non-american but as a fellow ex-soldier I say thanks for your service.

Skip: Counter argument.
What gives the USA the right to do as they did. A few studies?
How come the USA is VERY selective in what countries they intervene. NO involvement in africa, etc. Darfur, etc where is the US?
We can play that till the cows come home.

I can't explain it and I don't think you could ever understand my point. If you have never been to war or experienced occupation, our worlds are just too different. Like I said your people never lived through 10 yrs of occupation, etc.
What the US has done in the last 70yrs alone is enough, they got involved/sponsored a lot of wars that were not neccesary.
Right now I don't care for any US candidate as they will simply be a figure head for the powers. And I don't think that either party will make a change/difference. IMO, both parties have the same goals thus the US election is no better than the old russian elections where they offered 2 parties as a front for the true power.
No matter who you elect it won't make a change in the short-term.
Let see Bush invade Iran in 5 months(highly likely) do you think that any elected president can rectify it and undo the damage done?
But I guess you don't see it that way.

Nice personal attack.
BUT I have served my time, spend time in war-zones, etc and talked to a LOT of veterans/friends. I have killed people and seen friends being killed and let me tell you it changed my view on war.
Also seen guys been blown apart from guys like PLO, ANC, etc and those were all innocent just trying to get to work, etc. Ever wondered why Vet don't talk much about their experiences.
To me it sounds like you haven't been there and simply blowing it.
Said that when was the last time that the USA experienced the total destruction of their infrastrucute/homes that they wrecked on other countries.
And DON'T give me Pearl Harbour as it was way beyond the main-land. None of the returning soldiers lost their homes/family and had to rebuild their country.
Not saying that the USA is wrong but simply saying that the average US citizens experience of war is different than from the nations where the wars are fought and war don't end when the shootings stops.
If you want to elect a guy that never seen war as a CIC go ahead but I would say you will say more of what bush advocated.
As for the wars that the USA fought, compare that to a few millenia that the rest of the world did.

Hmm, been exposed to "Promotial speakers" for some time.
They sound great while on stage, good credentials but in the end they only talk common sense and rely on their fame to to get the monies. Yet, few are internationally recognised.
And of course US experience makes them an expert on what is wrong with Japan, etc. Hint: Always US experience, no other.
HTH.

For me all part of the build-up to another war.
1.) Covert Ops.
2.) Irag needing to approve the US troops launching attacks on other countries. And they will get it.
3.) Israel doing exercises that can target Iran, etc.
4.) The writing is on the wall. And it will happen soon.
By the end of the year Iran will be attacked. Not sure how Saudi Arabia, Opec, etc will react but I see trouble ahead.
Guys fasten your seatbelts, things will get worse from here onwards.

Ok, here is my point of view.
The US president is the highest authority in the military, i.e. he can declare war without the consent of senate. Correct me if I am wrong.
So logically, do you want a guy that never served or a guy that experienced war as a president?
I would go with a guy that experienced war and has seen the downside and the cruelty of war.

Not sure what is going here.
Said that one of my hobbies is building model-kits and I often get asked by Americans to build the model of the "A-Bomb Dome". Now this is a kit/plastic model ONLY sold at the holocaust museum.
Most americans/service members want it after visiting the museum not to remember the glory of WWII but as a reminder of history. Same thing with "Grave for Frieflies" just things not covered in their history books.
