A bear is a worthy opponent wounded or not and most likely will beat any human in a 1on1 encounter. Same as a Puma, etc.

My point still stands a human trying to go 1on1 today with wildlife will get owned. Forget all the TV, etc achievements we did if you are caught in the wild without them you are toast, superior intelligence don't save you.

    Cleo.

I hunt with a crossbow(as stated), in order to get a good shot you need to get close to the prey (like within a few metres).

If you miss the shot(heart or spine), a hog/boar has a poor nervous system and thus don't know it got hurt badly it just gets ANGRY.

Not talking guys here that pot game with high-powered rifles and scopes, etc. Or use semi-automatic rifles.

I know you are a vegetarian and consider meat-eaters cruel, etc. But a good hunter feels for the game/prey and tries to minimize the suffering. We use the animal(Food, etc) and don't kill for the sport of it. What we kill we use/eat.

Let me tell you I spend hours in a tree waiting for a deer to show up in a clearing and waited longer for the right shot(and it was cold). I get upset with hunters that miss their shot and need to trail the animal often for hours.

    Not all is black/white.

Like I said company rules are stronger unless they break goverment rules. My last Japanese company followed the goverment rules but anything beyond that was open ...(and we got hit on goverment rules they could bend)

If you can show that they it is in violation to goverment rules than you got a case. This is not just Japan but everywhere, company lawyers spend a lot of time working out those rules and how to bend them.

Heck, my company paid us "token overtime" included in salary so they were covered till 22:00. Worked anything less = no pay. Managers contracts stated that they were required to work X hours of overtime.

Yeah, most japanese worked till that time as it was included in their salaries.

I think the US is giving a good-will measure. But will wait to see how many results those donations will produce. Same as any others nations.

IMO & IME, grew up in a hunting family.

We were drilled "one shot, one kill", cause the least suffering to your prey(and use it all for food, whatever). If you can't guarantee a killing shot don't take it.

Myself have hunted with rifles but prefer cross-bow or long-bow(neither composite) as it puts me more on an equal footing. And let me tell you an enraged 400kg Hog after you is NO laughing matter.

Feel for the guy but humans are poorly fitted now for surviving without modern coveniences (Guns, etc).

    Delitachan.

I am sorta an Otaku(like the stuff just not too heavily into it). My wife used to work as an animator/manga-ka for most of her life. Some of her seniors from school are big names now, met them and many other guys in the industry. So I got a fair view into the industry.

And I have seen the best and the worst of the industry after coming to japan. Same way I am into resin kits and KNOW that 95+% of the japanese kits available in the west are pirated/copies same as with most anime goods.

But that is their game, some guys spend tons of cash on getting a hot-rod, improve their golf-game, etc.

Would I dress up myself, no way but I understand the guys/gals same as the trekkies and harry potter fans.

Forgot to add many contracts are fixed so OT is not included but the contractors demands it as well as non-assigned work.

Complain and you get hit. If I did the same hours in the west I would be earning a package.

    Papasmurfinjapan.

Agree, hence why I quit IT in Japan after 11yrs. Don't even get me started on overseas companies, I worked shorter hours at japanese clients than at the "international" ones.

One company said their standard hours were 08:00~22:00 but we needed to stay for 24:00~25:00 meetings with the guys in the states.

Not naming names but they are big ones.

    Happier now being self-employed.

    I am with mountaineerone.

It is a good thing I follow the trends both in Japan, USA, and Europe and that is not just anime, etc.

Same way more koreans/chinese/etc and japanese interact now and exchange views/culture and it is good. Just the politicos want to wish it away.

If you view the politics vs the views on the ground you will get a totally different picture.

Like I said Japan is a BIG seller now. Might not agree with that the image sold is accurate, but it works as did the "American Dream".

This is how dorky it gets in Japan, there are even TV-shows catering to the overseas Otaku(In english on national TV).

Akiba, Harajuku today are major tourist attractions and coin it more than most other tourist attractions. I hear more non-japanese than japanese there now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mocYr0XFRPA (way more out there).

Anyone remember the Tv-series of Kelly Osbourne "Turning Japanese", etc. And those shows are produced by overseas TV-stations(Never showing the true japan of course).

Japan is a big seller now(anime/manga even more so), there are now even Game shows overseas modeled on (japanese shows(granted dated by 20yrs).

And I agree there are better ways and things to see in japan, but manga/anime are the big sellers now(with the ninja, etc fads gone).

Ok, here is my experience, maybe less than Terry(3 countries/3 continents and 25yrs).

It really depends on the local employment laws and the companies policy. 1st was in my home-country, we were given 5 weeks holiday and 3 weeks sick-leave a year(managers can get up to 9~10weeks annual leave). We could convert OT to days off.

2nd was in South Africa which had few legal limitations. But we could exchange overtime for time-off. Work a full sunday and you get 2.5 days off. So it was a gamble want the cash than convert the accumulated over-time to pay. We had one employee who accumulated TOO much over-time in 3yrs(limit for using/converting it, he was forced to spend 4-month on leave. Was not hard as we often doubled or tripled our salary with OT, yes that was IT.

3rd Japan No comment. We all know about the leave we can take.

In short company policy can often override goverment one, but if a person has accumulated OT he should be able to take the time off prior to leaving the company. Actually many companies prefer it as it makes for an easier transition.

As for my IT experience, I did 24/7 call-outs and needed to be at the office 9~5 too, never-mind maintenance slot Sunday evenings from 18:00~22:00 or even the 3-day cutover projects. Want to guess how much sleep I got on a night with 3 callouts or how many GF I lost because they couldn't take it. We had to be at the office within 20 minutes after call-out, no matter what we did shopping, supper, etc.

    F&B(sorry for shortened version).

Plenty of video and TV evidence of it happening out there.

Either way I wish them all the best at the summit and hope they got a good time.

    FairandBalanced.

You dress up for Halloween, Carnival, etc?

It is their hobby/culture so let them be, no need to pass judgement the same way we don't pass judgement on people dressing up for halloween, etc.

If you want to do it feel free.

Yeah, I hope they can duplicate the medal-sweep from athens and maybe improve on it.

    Bit of Trivia:

Last years event was won by France(Japan took 2nd). France is the biggest Manga/Anime market outside Japan.

Japanese anime is very wide-spread in Europe and the ME, bigger markets than the USA.

Yeah, it is a fun hobby that hurts no-one. Unless they role-play the ending of "school-days". hehe.

I am sure they offer a selection of cuisines, of course prepared by top-chefs using top-ingredients.

I have no doubt that the food is tasty as I also have no doubts that it is also very costly.

Maybe it is a childish hobby.

Yet Manga/Anime are a major industry for Japan and outside. Manga/Anime Industry is also one if not the highest pirated industry out there.

I think it is because it is something "Japanese" and we know the opinions of many here about anything related to japan. ;)

For me it is no different from the Trekkies, Star Wars fans, Harry Potter Fans, etc dressing up.
