I still say Madrid, an old town with a lot of history and established tourist infrastructure. Also central to americas, asian and african travellers.

When I been to Rio it was nice but at the same time the crime rate is seriously bad and not much there once you leave the tourist area. Plus, I doubt that the got the finances/infrastructure to pull it off.

Not sure about Chicago what does it have to offer beside the Olympics? Major point people want to see more than just a few stadiums and hotels.

Against tokyo as asia had a few olympics/world-cups/etc recently and don't think it will benefit anyone.

    Just my view.

Yeah, and certain business practices don't help either. Not surprised that many people shun US products and the law-suits against microsoft, etc.

While I have met many nice and friendly americans, what irks me are the guys that feel that the US(God, etc) can't do wrong and we should be thankful for them and kow-tow to their might.

Not going into details why I feel that way.

But what irks me and many others is the "feeling" that the US and many of its citizens show that we are right and you are wrong, we know better, etc at least that seems to be the way they want the rest of the world to feel.

    Nuff said.

    Alphaape.

True words. I got a few blue-color friends that make more than I did in IT, etc.

Actually trying to convince my son to pursue that line of work. Few reasons: His work will always be in demand and people will pay for it because they can't live without those luxuries.

Also I think they get more satisfaction from their job than a desk-pusher, etc.

Reminds me off ”Who you gonna call ..." when the brown stuff hits the spinning thingy.

Some areas are putting them underground now, but that is up to the local muncipality.

In my area a few streets have been done already, all you see now is a pole coming up now and than and wires running of it to houses.

    Jake.

It puzzles me too as an european and being an expat myself. I see tons of people moving to europe, asia rather than the USA.

Illegal immigration is also a problem for a lot of countries in this world.

Another reason for me NOT to use an American Airline.

The few times I flew on an American Airline were less than memorable. From food to service, etc.

Soon they will be down to Aeroflot standards. ;)

Hmm, the Mainichi daily reports that the suspesnion most likely is short-term only and that the "Pedestrians Paradise" will be back in July pending a further decision.

I would say the level of the Pink Industry is about the same in Ikebukuro and Akihabara, except that in ikebukuro it has it's own little "kabukicho" as do many other stations.

Many areas are changing now Ikebukuro(otaku-centre for ladies) will soon get the Tokyo China-Town, Okubo already is the new Korean-town, etc.

OTOH, if I wanted to kill a lot of people using a truck I would choose areas like Kichijoji's Sunroad, Nakano(Mall up to the Boulevard), etc or any other heavily crowded shopping street.

Anoterh problem with the pink industries is that they are not illegal perse, so the goverment can do little to prevent them from opening.

Example: The kabukicho in Kichijoji, local goverment is trying to get rid of it and does so by opening muncipial places, etc whenever a building gets torn down. Why because according to the law you can't operate such a business within a certain distance of a goverment run establishment/building. This is the reason why the public library is where it is.

As for the closing of the Pedestrian Paradise, I don't think it is suck a big loss.

    kinniku.

Because to a certain degree the Otaku are linked with the pink industry. Removing the pedestrian street will result in fewer Otaku going to Akihabara, which actually fits the goverments plans as they are turning Akihabara into a Show-case IT centre.

Lots of the buildings are old and scheduled to be torn down, many shops are closing as the owners are retiring, so the Otaku/Anime and pink shops moved in as they live on short-term leases. In short they want the whole district to be like the Yodobashi Camera side.

Similar stuff happened in Nakano Broadway (another Otaku centre/actually pre-dates akihabara).

    HTH.

Hope this will get rid of all the 5-story sex-shops and other pink industry places in the district. Plenty of which disguise themself as maid-something.

Crime In Akihabara has been on the rise in the last few years too, with guys mugging the otaku, tourists, etc.

I know lots of families that are weary to take small kids there due to those places and happenings gotten worse after the Tsukuba Express opened.

Most of my otaku friends stopped going to Akihabara years ago as it was getting over-run and turned into a tourist-trap.

    Just my 2 yen worth.

There is a Phone on the desk besides which are instructions on how to contact a cop when they are on their rounds. This phone is hot-wired to to the local police headquater.

Hmm, makes me thing about the bag-searches, etc at Airports, Disney-land, Office-buildings, etc. I would think all those are also illegal.

Hey, why do they search(X-Ray) your bags without having any warrants or suspicions of you?

I think people go off on their "rights" forgetting that those rights also come with obligations. Just more of the ME first Culture.

When you visit a Haka/Grave here you usually bring some sweets and Tea for the departed. Longer procedures as it also involves washing the stone, etc.

When you leave you normally take the sweets home with you but the tea/drink remains.

    Nessie.

If you train the traditional arts in the proper method there is very little fat in there. Granted you won't be spoon-fed and held-held either.

Yes, there is a lot of mumbo-jumbo going on but you find mostly in the belt-factories, etc. Because in the end those sell a fantasy and not the real stuff.

Just my and many others experience, who train and spar with modern and traditional guys.
