    Nutsagain.

I agree the cards are stacked in the cops favour. Also feel that the searches are more there to make the public feel at ease.

Similar with the searches when entering disney-land, office-buildings, etc.

how is standing up for your rights against illegal seach and seizure suspicious?

Easy, the Cops "ASK/REQUEST" for your co-operation by allowing them to search your bag. By law you have to comply with the "REQUEST" for co-operation.

If the grab the bag of you and search it THAN it is illegal. That is the same across the globe.

    WilliB.

Grabbed his arm, elbow-locked him and slammed him face-first into the wall of Metal PO-Boxes(she was retrieving her mail). He tried to attack her from behind.

After that she drove her fist into his kidney(Shot-putt champion), I recommend the knee but she is a big lady.

He dropped and she went outside and called the cops.

Why do you think the cops globally initially "ask" you if they can check your bags after giving an explanation as to why they want to do so. If you refuse they will/can usually "ask" you do accompany them to the Koban, etc.

They will always ask for your permission, they won't slam you on the ground and rip your bag away from you to check it. This would be illegal and a violation of your rights.

Multiple refusal in legal term is a "suspicious" behaviour and the police are than entitled to take it up a notch. Remember you are supposed to co-operate with the police.

    Just my view.

    rtrhead1 and the other nay-sayers.

Join the cops and show them what they do wrong, you guys got ALL the answers and seem to better than them.

Come on join up and show us how things should be done. You are all BIG men that can subdue anyone(legally).

Just tired of the arm-chair warriors that are 6"4' 300 pounds and got all the answers.

    Talking about the arrest.

You all seen the "Civilian" that assisted the cop. IMHO, he was an off-duty cop. Cops just don't accept any help from bystanders as they are a liability.

    Spidey.

Did I say that? I did tons of things that could have killed me when I was young.

    Agree with romulus.

Of course we all were angels when we were young. We NEVER ventured into places we were told to stay out of(like that nice shut-down factory or the abandoned house).

Same we always went where we said we would go, parents never had to look for us.

Being a parent myself all we can do is be a guide and a role-model. But kids also need the time and space to explore things and make mistakes.

    Just my view.

What was the point of that piece of rubbish. Just don't see the connection between London and Tokyo.

Just call me dim-witted but I want those minutes back for reading that drivel.

For the people interested in Self-Defense, I recommend the following links.

    Daren Laur: http://members.shaw.ca/tmanifold/laur.htm

    Marc Animal" MacYoung: http://www.nononsenseselfdefense.com/

Those 2 are highly respected in the MA/SD scene, there are more of course but they re very good starting point.

Not affiliated with them in any way.

My view on KRav Maga and other SD\based arts vs Martial Arts(traditional).

Those new arts work well but their short-comings are that you need to train them continously to maintain the edge. Also many if not most of the those styles are designed for modern military use in war-times. Very few Instructors will even touch the implications of using the techs in the civilian world and into how much problem you can get for using them. Doubt that most even studied up on it themselves. They like to sell the tough-guy image and we can kick anybodies butt, etc.

In short they will work best within the context for which they were created same as the traditonal arts.

And to be honest I haven't found anything in those "new" arts that is not covered or missing in the old ones. You need the right instructor to show and explain you all the possible applications of the moves contained in the art.

Any good MA Instructor will also use PT-drills, etc to get same fatique as modern styles do. There are only so many ways to train the body and mind, kind of arrogant to say we found a better method after the arts been developed for thousands of years.

As for cross-training any half-way decent Instructor will recommend it.

Also special forces Israeli, USA, whatever don't only use one style/system but continously study/research new and old ones and add/modify their stuff. Same way it was done for thousands of years again.

    Just my view.

Visit the fire-museum in Yotsuya San-chome(free entrance) to get the answer. Entrance from the station.

I used to teach SD classes many years ago.

One female student(120kg) after 1 lesson put down an attacker with a broken lip and a punctured kidney.

That was a pure SD class not even MA related.

    Forgot to add.

Will the stuff you learned still work when you are 50, 60, out of shape or got a physical limitation?

    rjd_jr.

Come to my masters Dojo and you will see the same thing. I have sparred BJJ, Krav-Maga, etc guys many times and in the end we all did the same thing and everybody had respect.

Yes, we are traditional(OMFG) but those guys don't have anything that we don't. In the end it is NOT about the style but about the Instructor.

Yes, the might use new vocabulary, etc but once you drill down it is the same that was taught for centuries/milenia.

I don't diss any style(only the school)as we all climb the same mountain(different path)but at the summit you can't see the difference.

    Just my view.

    Another over-charged & over-hyped style/school.

Plenty of good Instructors out there of most styles, but they don't advertise widely nor do they run flashy schools/names(which make up 80% of your fees anyway).

Just tired of hearing style X is sooo much better, will give you better results and fix all the flaws in all other systems. Like the we are NOT a sport and thus better, yadda, yadda.

    Grrr.

    I agree.

Don't see the I-Phone making such a splash vs other smart-phones already on the market. Yeah, the Mac-Yuppies will cobble it up. I expected Softbank to get the deal vs NTT, etc.

Also more and more high-tech gadgets don't sell that well as I have seen a trend where people prefer lower-end stuff rather than paying for a gadget with features they won't use.

Got a bit of inside info as my last company sold and adjusted overseas products(Software) to the local market.

    I am with DoctorTofu.
Reminds me of when I traveled to Thailand with my Wife after 911.

Only flights bound to the US from Bangkok had way heavy security measures and most people said "thanks god" we are NOT on those flights.

Point of terrorism is that it can happen anytime, anywhere and from any quarter. That is the frightening thing but right now I think the terrorists have won in the US as everybody is paranoid, etc and that is the goal of terrorism.

It is NOT about the body-count but about the reaction you can get from your attack. And, IMHO, the US goverment has used 911 to push through measures, Iraq, etc they wanted to do but couldn't have done without 911.

    Just my view.
