This conversation has occurred countless times - a company has found a successful way to prosper. Other people think that the company is "evil", has "bad influence", "bad health effects" etc., so they want to change what it's offering. Now it's McDonald's, but you could put here Apple, Microsoft, Toyota, Sony, Softbank, you name it. But if the products sell, why should company change its business model? If there are so many people who think it's "evil," they would stop buying the products. Look at Toyota - a "model" company suddenly lost sales because of negative image. It was not the negative image but the lost sales which forced the company to rethink some of its practices. If you want McDonald's to change, simply stop going there and purchasing their products. Then they will change by themselves.

And her name, Liv, would have nothing to do with another female singing heavier stuff, Kristine Liv from Leaves' Eyes? Still, gotta check it out.

People have already taken their sides, regardless of the facts, so this questions is just stirring another pointless and endless discussion.

I know a piece by Hisaishi called "I Stand Alone," did he compose another one called "Stand Alone"? Interestingly, the lyrics to this piece are in English, so they redid it in Japanese?

For those of you who are complaining about the political correctness of the book or propagating social stereotypes - there was this real couple, Saori Oguri and this Laszlo guy, they were married, and she wrote a book/manga for the Japanese people about the adventures in their marriage. She chose the title "foreigner" because her husband, being an American of European descent, goes beyond one country. It turned to be a hit here, so now they want to make it into a movie. That's why the movie talks about a Japanese woman married to a Caucasian - because that's how this story went. All complaints are kind of missing the point. Ah, and as with most of the books published in this country, this one was written for the Japanese audience, too, so if you don't understand it, well, too bad.

And could all the people who voted "Someone else" say who they could actually see as the next PM for this country? This option seems like complaining for the sake of complaining.

McDonald's is a business, like anywhere else. If you don't like it, are against it, there is no pressure on you to patronize it. The customers who go, or don't go there, dictate the future of the business. McDonald's has found a model with "fast food", which everyone knows should not be taken daily, but in moderation it's no bad. Taste? Your call, some people like it, some don't, like anywhere else. All of you who are getting so righteous keep forgetting that if it's not for you, it's your choice not to go there, but they, as a business, have every right to try to expand. That's one of the strategies - catch a group of customers which will helpfully stay with you. And the choices of each person and each parent will show if this place is a hell, as some of you are suggesting, or just another possible place to grab a bite.

I often hear of kids preparing for the school festival, sometimes staying overnight at school. This is remembered as cool times, something they did together. The parents have done is as well, they would have no problems with it. The boy may have been careless to stand in the middle of the road and not notice an approaching car. He should have been more careful. As for hit and run, I can find no excuse.

Thanks sharky for your nice comment. I can see that an article where Japan is not presented in a negative light has no value for you. Well, believe it or not, Japan is not as bad as you are constantly trying to paint it. It's not perfect, but it's not the hell you want to see it as. Because if it's so bad, I feel sorry for those who have no choice but to live here. Yes, there are lots of bad students, bad universities, but that's not limited to Japan. This article is about the good universities that are in Japan, but you have chosen not to see them. Suit yourself.

But since this was NOT a global ranking, the relevance of sharky1's comment drops significantly as well.

If there is any problem here, it is with the present Japanese law, not the company itself. The law allows to make money on such games, so why should a company not do it? All products are potentially dangerous, but companies still make them, as long as they are legal and there is a market for them. So far the political correctness is not the law, and least not in this country.

Weasel, have you heard the expression "you get what you pay for"? Well, if you are satisfied with Windows there is absolutely no reason to buy a Mac, and the same goes to anybody else, get and use what you are satisfied with. I find the price of Macs satisfying and worth the machine itself, so I have no problems with buying that particular brand.

It's interesting, several of the "new features" in Windows 7 I've been using for several years on my Mac. "Task Bar" sounds very much like "Dock", What's the difference between "Shake" and "Expose?", the "Libraries" use the functionality of "iPhoto" and "iTunes", where your media files are brought together. The "Jump List" sound interesting, but how do you decide which function of the program are important?

That will depend on what you mean by the word "demand". Sure, there will be people who for some reason would like to have a vinyl, especially of older vinyl records, but what comes out now will be either on a CD or a digital file. I can't imagine many bands would like to make new vinyl records now.
