The democrats may not get everything and may even lose some fights, but this has passed. Cry republicans, blubber and whine....it's law now.
And as far as bringing back the draft, the democrats aren't even looking at this. Yes, the US Military is a volunteer organization. And this new law won't change this. < :-)

Obama could have ended DADT with the stroke of a pen. And we know as soon as he did it somebody would be filing lawsuit after lawsuit. That's why he didn't do so and waited till it was passed as legislation. Challenging it would be much harder. Damn near impossible.
Smart move. < :-)

I am so glad to see this repealed. I served with gays and was proud to serve with them no less or more than my heterosexual compatriots. I never felt a threat or uncomfortable. I felt more uncomfortable around those who were so bigoted and racist.
sensei258 - Why do gays try so hard for their lifestyle to be "open and accepted"? Keep your bedroom habits to yourself, we don't need to know.
They aren't asking to take their lifestyle outside the bedroom. They are asking to serve next to their heterosexual comrades.
It's like when you finally get a chance to rest and you'd like to have a beer with someone without worrying that somebody is going to out you and get you discharged. There are still rules about open displays of affection, there are rules about places and times when you hold hands for instance. These aren't going to change.
It's a good move for America. < :-)

Molenir, yes it does. There is a common denominator. george bush. he started all this, prosecuted the war poorly and couldn't complete it. Lied, allowed torture and then slimed away without completing what "he" started 7 years earlier.
Yeah I know I voted for Obama, but he didn't start the war. He assumed the responsibility of 2 poorly managed wars.
Get the troops out. < :-)

If it was up to Obama supporters like myself, we'd have gone in with sufficient troops to begin with and done the job right and never wasted time, lives, equipment or money and never gone into Iraq. < :-)

So quickly people want to forget that george bush started this war under good intentions, we thought, then left the US Military with measly support and went on to Iraq and to mismanage that war, also.
Obama done a great job trying to manage two wars, especially in Afghanistan. < :-)

I voted for Obama. Up until now I've been pretty happy with what he's done. However, this tax compromise sucks.
If this bill passes we'll be borrowing money to pay for the continuance or tax cuts that were only intended to be temporary. Actually, bush wanted them permanent but they would never have gotten through because people knew we couldn't afford this.
Obama has torqued me off on this one. < :-)

skipthesong I've never alluded to my income as 6 figure. I'm a federal retiree on a fixed income now.
We're deep indebt, deficit growing and war for another 10 years. The cost has to be paid. Borrowing $4Trillion to pay these tax breaks is asinine. < :-)

I'm extremely disappointed in this. They'd had passed unemployment insurance extension, there are republicans that are out of jobs too.
