I have no problem with disagreement. My problem is McChrystal took it to the media.
If McChrystal had gone to Washington and had an eye to eye with Obama, I have positively would have no disagreement.
If I was running a military operation, I couldn't allow my staff to run their mouth any way they like. They work for me. They represent me.
This isn't a civilian operation. You have the right to say all you want. When you enlist into the military, you give up that right.
When did you serve and with who (USA, USN, ets.)? Do you think that if you ridiculed the military you'd have been tolerated by them? < :-)

Then RomeoRamenII, who would you put in charge of Afghanistan? You know of a general you'd select instead of Petraeus? You disagree that Petraeus isn't a good choice? < :-)

So you'd keep a person in charge of a military operation after they belittled and openly questioned your ability, right or wrong? You'd have them leading the troops into battle after they read your and your underlings comments? You'd keep an undisciplined and vocal critic of your policies in charge? < :-)

This is the military folks. It's not some company down on Main Street or some friendly social group. It is built on obedience and discipline. Running your mouth against your C-i-C does not fall within the confines of military obedience and discipline.
If Gen. McChrystal had a major bad mouthing him, he'd have to get rid of him. No different then what happened. Except McChrystal resigned before he was fired.
Obama's choice of Petraeus is the safest there was. < :-)

This isn't the first time that McChrystal has screwed up. He allowed military strategy and numbers to become public record before Obama finished with plans for Afghanistan. Nobody much wanted to mention the Pat Tillman death, but he allowed that to slide. Then this.
We've got posters here who demonized Obama for dumping McChrystal. But if they had someone in their command who was bad mouthing their company or military unit, they'd get rid of them, but they would protect McChrystal.
If I was Obama and I was dumping McChrystal, I'd pull in Petraeus also. There is no way that they can bad mouth the selection of Petraeus. < :-)

If General McChrystal had a major that spoke to Rolling Stones with the same disrespect and supposed candor that McChrystal did, he'd be taken down in a heart beat. McChrystal couldn't have an Army of fighters that were supporting the major, all the while who are supposed to fighting a war and for their life.
Just plain stupid. < :-)

RomeoRamenII,
Right he needed to open his mouth and say thing that cause the troops to say, HUH? The troops are in Afghanistan still because of the poor job that george bush did, but we now want to blame Obama. McChrystal has a requirement to keep these troops fighting, but opening his mouth doesn't do anything about building up morale, it does exactly the opposite.
Why would a commander want to demoralize his troops? Why would his lackeys want to demoralize the troops. Even if the war was the most incorrect action this country has ever done, you don't want to get into the minds of the troops and give some bad impressions.
I'm a MC vet, served in Vietnam and I think he opened his mouth inappropriately. This showed poor judgment and character traits of a whiner. The strategy for this war is McChrystal's. You want to complain about this strategy, then you're talking against McChrystal's war plans.
That's another big problem. This is McChrystal's war plans. If he retires or is replaced then someone has to pickup McChrystal's war plans and continue the war after his big mouth gaff.
If McChrystal has a problem with this war, then he needs to talk to Obama, not Rolling Stones. < :-)

Apologize again Congressman Barton. Tell us how BP has been shaken down. The cost to date has been $2Billion and it only been 2 months.
Who else wants to apologize for this shake down? < :-)

These mass killings make the NRA just ecstatic. They know the weapons from the US are being put to good use. All the while we worry about whether marijuana will get into the country. Make it legal and it will ruin the Mexico drug cartels.
But this was rehab centers. Why would they attack rehab centers? Business so poor that they need more users? < :-)

MistWizard, before DADT, it was no gays in the military at all, period. This DADT is a farce. Whether you tell or not. The military's policy is no gays. Clinton signed the DADT as some way to appease gays. Really didn't do anything. Just like before, there are gay bars and clubs around every military base. It really didn't change anything MistWizard. Google it and see. But from my observation from 70-84, no lovefest. <:-)

sensei258 it is/was a political issue. The politicians controlled whether gays served openly in the military. It's been taboo till now. Now it's a been ok'd, and it took politics to get through this. < :-)

I've considered the DADT and the rule that gays couldn't openly serve in the military a sham for years. It was a rule that disqualified patriots from serving just because of their sexuality.
I'm glad we're close to the day when it'll be something in the past. < :-)
