I personally have no problem with Arizona's law. I feel it's state's rights. I also see that this is a federal problem that they haven't carried out.
That being said, if GA passes a law you don't like, do you boycott GA? < :-)

You know for a community organizer, Barack Obama is doing a hell of a job. He's doing what he said he'd do. Start pulling troops out of Iraq as promised. He put more troops into Afghanistan. He said it would get tougher before it would get better.
This is why I voted in Obama. < :-)

I remember watching her as a child. The family would all sit around the black and white TV and we'd see variety shows like Ed Sullivan. It was always a treat to see Lena perform. Loved her..loved her..loved her.

I didn't imagine that BP's disaster would get to this degree. I thought that they really had a master plan for some kind of accident like this.
Here the republicans have been running their soup coolers for off shore drilling. Then we have the "Drill...Baby...Drill" Sarah Palin crowd.
Then here we have BP who wants deep sea drilling and doesn't have a plan to stop a leak. Who doesn't put the automatic shut off on the well and really has no concrete solution to a catastrophe of this scale, at these depths. Sure...sure they are drilling laterally; that's another 3 weeks away? Maybe some golf balls and shredded tires? < :-)

techall there is also another plan to try to pump shredded tires down the pipe to jam it up. There's probably several other plans they you nor I am aware of. Your expertise is sweet, and it might be beneficial to the novices like myself, but it doesn't negate the information received from other sources. < :-)

techall. No, I've never worked on a drill rig. But I do know that I was listening to an interview with BP executives lasr week and I am just repeating what they said. Link for the video broadcast, I don't have, but unless you heard the broadcast, you can't tell me where I am wrong.
Have you worked on an oil rig? Yes, they are drilling horizontally to pump concrete into the well. Yes, that it one plan. But it isn't the only plan. < :-)

I had high hopes that this would work, even if it only captured 50%. But it seems till they think of something else, the oil keeps escaping.
Where is Sarah Palin when I need her. "Drill...Baby...Drill"
I think I heard they are getting another shut off valve, but it'll take a couple more weeks. And can you imagine trying to change anything a mile underwater, let alone when oil is spewing out?
After this, it'll take years again to get permission to drill offshore. At least within US limits. < :-)

New facts are emerging. Platform alarms may have been turned off. It was reported this morning that it's a common occurrence for oil platforms to turn off their alarms because they go off so often that they turn them off. < :-)

The exemption you reference is only 1 of 250 to 400 exemptions given a year to Gulf Drilling projects. It had nothing to do with campaign donations. But keep trying. < :-)

Egalityranny This had nothing to do with george bush allowing intelligence agencies to listen in to any phone calls they wanted to. In this case, they had a particular phone number that they were listening to. This is totally different then bush's argument that the FBI can listen in to any phone calls they want to.
If Army intelligence did in fact trace him by his cell phone, cool. But don't try to link this to george bush. < :-)

So actually Egalityranny, your big disposable phone theory is just that, an empty theory. Thanks. < :-)

Sarge, you're so into oil that you can't see any alternate energy source. Brazil has been using sugar cane ethanol in their gasoline for a long time.
It's not all that difficult. < :-)

Egalityranny
Please follow this thought with some proof to your statement. I believe that the issue with bush was that he was giving the FBI the access to listen in to "all" phone conversations. It had nothing to do with disposable phones. But I could be wrong. Enlighten me. Show me a link to your statement. < :-)

Less drilling doesn't mean less oil. It just means less offshore oil. That doesn't reduce what we're getting right now. It means less new off shore oil drilling.
Oil speculators use anything to increase the cost of petroleum though. < :-)

I think the White House knows what we need to make drilling safer. And you're going to see an effort coming forth in the next year that will make these wells safer. Like automatic shutoffs.
But, I think we're going to see less drilling offshore then the oil drillers want to see. The Obama administration has already put a stop to his idea about more offshore drilling. < :-)

Sarge, your question is off topic of the oil spill, but here's your answer.

This accident gives more credence to pushing for more non-petroleum energy sources. < :-)

Thanks skipthesong. We use the Exxon Valdez as a measure because it's the biggest spill on American shores in recent history. My fear is that this disaster will eclipse even the top ten you supplied.
Yes, I do have more faith in "some" other countries because they have required the automatic shutoffs that the US hasn't. < :-)
