skipthesong, show me the list of top ten then.
Where did I allude that BP would ever pay more than they legally have to?
Here's where the US does screw up. Other countries require an automatic shut off. The US hasn't. That is a major error on the govt's part. But I have a feeling that dick cheney's secret energy meeting had something to do with this. < :-)

my apology, let me correct this portion of my post. skipthesong
You talking about the Exxon Valdez? That was a real disaster!!! Except for the Exxon Valdez, it's minor leaks. It's nothing to the extent of this catastrophe. And this isn't over by a long shot. But please enlighten me. < :-)

Again, nothing to this extent. But please tell me where we've had an earthquake that released large amounts of crude oil, especially one that continues to release oil in the amounts we're looking at right now.
Yes, there are other countries drilling offshore, but they use rigs that if this accident happens there is an automatic shutoff that doesn't allow this type of oil release.
Folks BP screwed up royally. But please repeat the trash that Rush Limbaugh and other right wing talking heads. I love listening to Rush and his types. Rush was just livid by the comment that the government has their foot against the throats of BP. < :-)

From what I saw, they have video but he's not recognizable. It's the other things that have him dead to rights. His admissions, email owner of person who bought the SUV, the evidence found at his residence.
So the video is just a small potatoes. < :-)

BP will reimburse legitimate claims they say. But the unmeasurable damage like the deaths of billions of sea life and residue left behind will affect the oceans and coastal ecosystems for generations. But they can safely drill off shore, huh?
Sure they can, and when they do they'll use equipment that doesn't have an automatic shutoff that could have prevented all this.
Meanwhile BP is taking the metal dome catch apparatus that won't be installed for a week, if they get it in place.
Where are those screaming "Drill...Baby...Drill!" < :-)

BTW skipthesong, it wasn't the street cameras that caught Shahzad. It was email address owner and simple things like that. The cameras didn't show his face well enough to make out who he was. < :-)

skipthesong No matter what the ACLU wanted, which I don't always agree with, the system worked.

It was the vigilance of two disabled Viet Nam Vets who alerted authorities that something was wrong. These heroes are a part of the .07866% of the population who have served this country so honorably, and still serve. < :-)

You know this was like in a movie where the bad guy is trying to escape and he's caught just in the nick of time.
He's been mirrandized and he's talking. He's giving useful information.
Looks like the system worked before he got away. < :-)

skipthesong, You're so far off base that you've lost sense of reality. I didn't know whether it was going to be a Muslim, a skinhead, a Tea Party fanatic or just a pissed off citizen. You're just disappointed that I didn't jump to conclusions like other posters. I gave the authorities time to investigate this bombing attempt before I jumped to an opinion.
But you're so sure of your position that you want to criticize me.
Like I said before, I was glad that he was captured. < :-)

I was joyfully surprised to wake up and hear the report that the terrorist who built this bomb and put it in Times Square was caught.
We got this guy and luckily the car bomb didn't go off.
Next time it may detonate. We were lucky this time. < :-)

Molenir, Let's say that Obama had acted faster. They've been laying out containment equipment ever since the platform fell. Even before that the Coast Guard was heavily involved. BP is the one who allowed this to expand to the extent that it has because they (their contractor) didn't have a shutoff valve to close off the well.
What's laughable is that we waited for a week while BP was saying we're trying to turn it off, they knew they didn't have a shut off valve and made us think (Washington and everyone else) that they might be able to shut it off. With what? A big cork?
Besides going down to the coast and grabbing a swab to start mopping up this mess, I don't know what the government could have done. But I'm sure someone can fill me in. < :-)

Can't burn the oil off because it's storming. It won't stay lit. Even if it was to stay lit, it's not going to burn much off. And just the surface oil.
Suzu1, where'd you get this: "oceans began to recede and the planet began to heal" Is that a quote from Obama? Or your sarcasm? < :-)

I'd like to remind you that BP is the same company that faked the Prudo Bay corression (sp) problem and replaced their 36 inch transport pipeline to an 18 inch pipeline. < :-)

I may depend on big oil, but I've never been an advocate of drilling off shore. I understood this kind of disaster could happen, but we're talking real ecological damage from this disaster. More than I even considered. I never imagined an amount of oil coming into the shore that we're going to be seeing.
I would have thought that BP and their drilling contractor would have used the proper equipment that would avoid this kind of accident. But no. Instead of using the type of equipment that would have avoid this kind of accident, especially when they want to drill off shore. They know they are being scrutinized. Dumb asses.

I don't think so Sarge. I stay warm from natural gas and electricity. This is crude oil that might become gasoline.
I bet you support drilling off shore don't you Sarge. So give me an up-side to this disaster. Tell me what BP is doing right.
Besides being sarcastic about this disaster, got any honest comments? < :-)

This is a disaster created by the same people that want to drill and drill and more drilling offshore.
You'd think that BP would take the necessary steps to ensure that this wouldn't happen. This shows the stupidity of the drilling company for not installing the shutoff valve when putting in the well. This accident is the very reason why off shore drilling was stopped before.
Where's Sarah Palin now with her "Drill baby Drill?" < :-)

This is why we haven't allowed drilling off the coast for decades. In an interview with the representative from BP this morning on GoodMorn.... Robin Roberts ask the rep why they didn't use the automatic shutoff required by some countries and he said he's never heard of the equipment. His answer sounded very disingenuous.
It appears they took a shortcut and it's going to cost us big. Then we're also going to have to pay for the cleanup. < :-)
