"It offended me that they didn’t use Japanese actresses. There are some exceptional actresses working in Japan & many can or could be taught to speak what ever English was needed."
It offended me that a Japanese actor played a Chinese general in Red Cliff.

"Well, in China they have the death penalty incentive. My guess is that will prove a more effective incentive in the future than the profit incentive. Not so sure about America's "brief stint in prison" incentive."
The death penalty in China now meets with approval, where it used to be unfailingly bashed as a human rights violation. American leniency for criminal CEOs sure do their part to help change attitudes.

"It is true that Taiwan has many Japanese influence. Food, holidays resorts, pop songs & technology. Japan built the infrastructure of Taiwan in every 20th century."
Japan was certainly the cultural beacon for Asia during the modern era. But Japan's ancient cultural inspiration came from China. Chinese writing, arts, architecture, clothing, and food influenced the visiting Japanese missions to China during the 7th and 8th centuries. Japan preserved and modified the best aspects of Chinese culture which were transformed or lost in the mother country thru the centuries.
I felt transported to the Tang Dynasty while visiting Nara and Kyoto, which were modeled after the ancient Chinese capitol.
Hope that both countries and people can cooperate and work together for a better Asia.

"Ten thousand dollars is her "life savings?" She's obviously not wealthy but probably has more than the newly destitute rich who got wiped out by Madoff's Ponzi scheme.
"the lady keeps her life savings in a cracker box which she then decided to return to the store. I'm guessing she's not all there."
the elderly tend to be forgetful like many seniors.

"Taiwanese retain a huge affection for all things Japanese and feel a stronger cultural affinity to Japan than China"
That only applies to a segment of Taiwanese who are mostly DPP supporters. The pro-KMT Taiwanese consider themselves guardians of Chinese culture.
