I don't think this is really important news. There are more important issues to report on.
The next victims of animal killers and torturers will be people. It's important to nip the sadists in the bud before you hear about bottle rockets inserted in the mouths of humans.

...glad to hear some common sense is still left in the elected government. Let's see how long it lasts though.
They were pressured into backtracking due to harsh criticism by the Wall Street Journal and Post editorials. President Park's speech (mentioning Japan's war denials) in DC and the ovation she received by the US congress also had great leverage.

“It is only natural to honor the spirits of the war dead who gave their lives for the country. "
Except that Japan at the time was the brutal aggressor toward other countries, slaughtering those who truly sacrificed their lives for THEIR countries.

Both Communist Chinese leaders and Korean leaders need to respect Japanese civilians of WWII victims. PM Abe must visit to Yasukuni Shrine for to pay respect to victim of WWII.
Japanese politicians need to respect ALL foreign victims- Korean, Chinese, Filipino, American, British - of Japan's aggression. The actions of Japan caused suffering of their own civilian populace, including those of Japanese-americans. It's time for inclusion at Yasukuni of a foreigners' memorial to respect all civilian victims of Japanese atrocities.

"...the fact that Japan is losing what once made it a strong, proud nation thanks to the invasion of foreign culture and ideas,..."
Japan borrowed extensively from foreigners. It was foreign ideas and culture from China and Korea that formed Japanese culture. Of course, the nationalistic elements will not admit this.

I have a sneaking suspicion that your "many say" actually translates to "the Chinese propaganda machine says".
i doubt if many western spectators or commentators on all-American networks are part of the Chinese propaganda machine. Unless the millions of non-Chinese awed by the Beijing Olympics are automatically designated by you to be Chinese propagandists.
the most spectacular use of bureaucracy to prevent people with grievances from being allowed to protest during the Olympics?
The British stepped up a notch by employing defense missiles on apartment rooftops. Demonstrators which devastated Tottenham earlier were nowhere to be seen during the London Olympics. Must've had something to do with extra heavy security.
