The destiny of the Hatoyama Cabinet's voyage will be determined by their ability to accurately forecast weather conditions, to anticipate storms, negotiate cross currents while capitalizing on the clear days and when the winds give full sails. May their voyage be fruitful.

Would anyone know how much it costs the US annually to be in Afghanistan? Afghanistan seriously weakened the Soviet Union, and they eventually withdrew. It doesn't sound good that the refueling done by Japan is so important.

He probably won't get credit for it, but he did coordinate Japan's stimulus efforts w/ the the US to stabilize the global financial markets - he did what was necessary at the time and that consumed most of his energies. Circumstances were not in his favor.

There's options galore - reduce Misawa AND Yokota presence percentage wise and make Gov. Ishihara ecstatic. Reduce Yokosuka as well so that the US lowers presence, but not bases. Reducing budgets is probably a high priority according to some sources.
