There is legislation pending in the US Congress to shut down the Internet. US Foreign Policy doesn't look good under the scrutiny of the world. However, the US needs a reason to shut down the Internet. Something will break soon.

To Kyoken,
Thanx for the IP address - I stand corrected, Wikileaks is not "a bunch of weekend hackers".
It has already enveloped the US, the Press has been "silenced" which can lead to "tyranny" - something that the American Revolution fought to eliminate. The bottom line was the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights - as many know, those rights can not be separated by any branch of government except in secrecy. The face of tyranny is rearing its ugly head here on JT at times - you can tell by the hatred behind the posts.

If this was a movie, Assange would need a drop dead beautiful, disgraced former intelligence officer to weave through the dragnet being put forth.
I don't know if he knows this, but the info he has IS more valuable than cash - info is the currency of governments. If he needs support, a little packet of info can open some doors.
Ciao.

I know this sounds crazy, but I like the odds. If I was w/ Assange, there might be an outside chance of escape and extend. A bunch of weekend hackers vs. the complete foreign policy apparatus of the US. Survival leads to glory.

To Gdx9902,
"But ApecNetworks: I do agree death is in the air, but the death of what?"
Sec State Clinton said it succinctly for the US during the presidential campaign - the "Death of the American Dream".

What would be interesting is to hear what " the Father of the Internet", former VP Al Gore has to say about this info leak on the Internet?

Well, unless he is James Bond, the State Dept. will probably do to Assange what they did to Bobby Fischer (former world chess champ) and spirit him away to an isolated Iceland. Or, he may be able to strike a deal.
Whatever results, the US is not going to look good in this where they are the leaders of democracy and freedom. There is death in the air.

So far, Assange has not topped Daniel Ellsberg and the release of the Pentagon Papers, nor the findings of the Sen.Church Investigations - that changed history in the Asia Pacific. It still remains to be seen if Assange has earth shaking info up his sleeve.
He seems like a sharp guy, so he probably has a disclosure method like shown in the book, "Shibumi". Nicholas Hel would have a trigger placed on the info, and if he did not contact the messenger, the info would be released. Thus, the info may be released even if Assange meets his arrest.

"It's like he's missing the boat on his own documents or something which is very strange to me."
I sorta understand Assange, if he is pursuing this on principle. He is releasing the info based on the amount of heat it will produce. He may be focused on the US because that is where the major info is and he is planning to release it at a designated period. The US Govt. behaves as if they really don't know what info Assange has yet, but is slowly realizing that the security clearances is much higher than previously thought, thus the intervention of Interpol. This is conjecture at this point.

To Klein2,
"Well, APEC, do your best to discredit the discreditors. But you probably would have been better off not to bring it up."
I have been where Assange have been, but he is above my work. My work on the Taiwan Strait Crisis, and some other things have thusfar produced a major movie and a TV series. They did not like me, but they still made the shows.

Extremely high probability that the rape charges on Assange is false. Common international modus operandi to discredit sources and almost impossible to prove as long as the plantiff keeps to the story especially if it was consensual. It is used primarily in international affairs (example: Cold War). Had a run in w/ it in the mid 1990's. Sexual issues are hard to prove innocence, and the social stigma is lasting even when innocence is determined. It works, and this Wilkileaks issue screams on extreme methods to stop Assange at all costs.

The Okinawans are not advocating that all bases leave, just ground troops. In modern warfare, air and naval is essential. Many social problems will be eliminated by getting the ground troops out. ROK needs them or send them to Guam. However, as we all know, Sec Def Gates made it clear that the US determines the conditions on Okinawa.

The Pentagon has a choice - they either cut the rhetoric of representing democracy and freedom, OR abide by the will of the people as dictated by the democratic election process. The Roman Empire had similar problems w/ critical outposts.

To Tclh,
The ROK Corvette was inconclusive, and the evidence presented suspicious. Before jumping to any conclusions as this thread, a second look is necessary. On close analysis, there are loose ends not explained yet.
