Sec. Clinton would have major influence w/ the PRC since she and her husband really helped them in becoming a major military power in the 1990's.

This affected the balance of power in the Asia Pacific big time.

I felt that this article had more weight since I do give Korean Broadcasting Station (KBS) credibility when discussing ROK and DPRK affairs.

I should add that the above link is the second that I found on this subject from a non-mainstream source - both were unconfirmed. Both sources were stating a possible "friendly fire" situation.

I didn't say that Americans were on board. If it is as the article concludes, the actual sub may not be registered due to it's mission. Operative term: plausible denial.

Here's better question: what sunk the US submarine?

"The sinking of the Cheonan remains unsolved. But around the time of this incident another sinking occurred that has hardly been reported in Japan. Near the site of the sinking of the Cheonan, a colossal object, which appears to be a US submarine, was found to have sunk."

There is good info about this incident on the net:

"The Key Resolve/Foal Eagle exercise on the West Sea near the Northern Limit Line (NLL) was aimed at keeping a more watchful eye on North Korea as well as training for the destruction of weapons of mass destruction in the North. It involved scores of ultra-modern US and South Korean warships equipped with the latest technology.[16]"

For those not in the military, please take a close look at the map in the above mentioned link. The naval exercise is provocative, but so far, no clear evidence that the DPRK having the technology to penetrate sophisticated ASW.

It has to be quick and contained - can not get out of control, or the G20 Meeting later this fall in ROK would be canceled or relocated out of ROK - would become an investment risk.

If the US can't produce the goods on the gun (submarine), but only the bullet(torpedo), it will be hard to prove anything. The great powers can see the geopolitical maneuvers. It still has to be demonstrated that the DPRK can penetrate a US/ROK ASW in the location in question. But, then again, politics can be unpredictable.

Would you have a link to the torpedo/sub connection? May be able to fit the puzzle if confirmed.

"If you want to cast doubt on SKorea and the US posution fine."

I don't know what you are saying. The Obama Administration is clearly following the Bush Administration's "Axis of Evil" paradiym. The US used false intelligence at the UN prior to Iraq. DPRK is one of the members of the "Axis of Evil". The US can be suspect, but not guilty. There is doubt on ALL participants is what I am alluding to. Nationalism will not allow that option.

The problem is, it is not in the PRC's interest to have this happen at this time - to an attorney, you need motive and opportunity.

I do wish to make a comment on what I have been reading on other forums. The DPRK has obsolete Soviet era equipment, a dead economy, an one million man army starving, ill equipped, and dietary problems. The only thing they have is fortified artillery w/ ammo and a nuke. How they acquired a modern sub needs to be explained.

All I got to say is, if the ROK has the goods on the DPRK role in the sinking, and the proof of their ability to sink a Po Hang class ASW corvette, we'll see it at the UN.

To avoid a major conflict, and major casualties on both sides, the ROK should send in commandos to take out all or most of the subs that can penetrate PHS 32 sonar - "even, steven". That would mean they would have to have a James Bond-type commandos that can do things.

I can tell that YOU really want to know what the heck is goin' on. It's pretty simple at the geopolitical level, and the US is HEAVILY invested in this. It's simple and predictable, but it is "classified". One would need to be a specialist in international politics.

Hypothesis: Pres. Obama does not know the overall plan because of his background as a social activist and attorney/senator. He knows this is being backed by a heck of alot of foreign policy experts, and he is goin' along. VP Biden may know, but this is a real secret. It is like a movie, and Afghanistan is the key.

You have to remember, I was receiving highest level intelligence from the horse's mouth just prior to implementation in the mid 1990's. And, that modus operandi can not and will not change in the US.

"apecNetworks at 04:45 PM JST - 25th May I have two comments: 1)I hope ROK has more than torpedo debris to show the UN. There is a >need of evidence to show the DPRK has the hardware to avoid sonar >detection (if it was a submarine). The evidence released to the media is >not enough as of today.

I've asked you this before but could you please provide evidence supporting your contention that NKorea was not responsible? How can anyone verify whether NKOrea actually has or does not have specific submarine technology unless the NKOreans open their doors for inspection and cooperation? The evidence released to the media, and undoubtedly some not released has been sufficient for the UN to commence an investigation into wheryher NKorea has broken the truce agreement.

    2) If this incident flares up into a shooting war, the ROK can kiss the >G20 meeting this fall goodbye

They could conceivably kiss alot more goodbye than the G20 meeting. But at least there would no longer be a DPRK after that."

The Obama Administration is following the "Axis of Evil" Foreign Policy paradigm of the Bush Administration. The same push for UN action. Sec. Powell didn't have the REAL conclusive evidence, and neither does Sec. Clinton. Now, whether these countries are "evil" is another topic, but the PHS 32 sonar is still the key question - that question would take toooooo much time for the US.

Just thought I add an oft quoted phrase used by former House Speaker Tip O'Neil - "all politics is local". This would be relevant to APEC.

TumbleDry at 05:53 PM JST - 25th May G20 Meeting won't be canceled.

It may not be canceled, but definately relocated if war conditions persists. Unless you have undisclosed info on the true nature of the situation at hand.

Yokohama would have the security setup to accomodate a makeshift G20 since APEC is scheduled, and would receive the perspectives of the region in one shot.

The ball is in the ROK court at the moment.
