I read that the US Armed Forces were allowed to smoke in Iraq during the heavy fighting b/c it helped reduce combat stress and lack of rest - was the news report complete?

One of the problems Toyota is facing is that the Prius is keeping Toyota afloat, but the company didn't change anything else in the early 2000's. Ford does that, bringing in family members, but it really is not the solution. The 53-year-old grandson of the company founder would have to surround himself w/ geniuses in the auto field, but he himself would have to be smarter - that is rare. The forces in play is beyond the auto market.

omg!!!!!! "Toyota Motor Corp, the world’s largest automaker". I helped them when they were going down the toilet - Toyota was able to take the advise and came out w/ a WINNER. I am competing to outdo GHQ, but I may be the only one who is active that knows Japanese manufacturing progress is WAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! beyond their expectations. Former GHQ reviews calculated that I could be one of the best - we'll see.

I posted this a few years ago - the PRC economy is on a roll, but there are others coming. Hopefully, no one runs into a "BRIC" wall.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney should leave the stage, his moment is gone. At the geostrategic level, he can be understood, but it reveals a glaring US weakness as he still pursues his policies. It is unwise and unless he is willing to show the cards he holds very tightly, it is time to let go. World opinion about the US is under "suspicion".

It's so sad.....the PRC openly places constraints on Internet activities while the US hides their constraints w/ extensive monitoring. Both are a form of censorship. Which is better I don't know.

It's been twenty years since the end of the Cold War, then the Bubble burst in Japan. I have been involved w/ some behind the scenes activities - w/out going into details, it has been an extraordinary period, and Japan has made some good moves during the period. It'd been amazing.....

I'm somewhat familiar w/ Japanese automakers, and I do see things differently. If GM wishes to turn things around in the correct way, I would have every major executive ask this question while thinking, "If Henry Ford was CEO for GM today, what would he demand?" Need a role model? Get Steve Jobs to advise on the Board of Directors, not in auto manufacturing, but in outlook in manufacturing a world class product.

This is soooooo hard to believe. GMC has everything - technology, workforce, very smart people, etc..... They have sooooo much resources that the product doesn't reflect what GMC is capable of manufacturing. They'll bounce back, but they need to change the product line.
I could give them imput, but from my experience, I probably wouldn't get any credit for any accomplishments.

Let me say this, SCAP and Gen. MacArthur made no mistakes w/ the Treaty. Given the available info at the time, they made an astute decision. It may not look great now, but SCAP and Gen. MacArthur had no say in the decisions after this Treaty.

Very few people know this since I had some influence in the creation of the Prius, but Toyota was and is Olympic-class competitors in automaking. I respect that.

I can't believe the situation GMC is in. It would be better if Toyota cuts a deal on hybrid technology w/ GM. It's not good for them to falter, especially when they have advanced technology.

To Timorborder:
I believe the situation is more complicated than what you state. Former Sec. of State Rice drew an unstated dividing line between the US/Japan/ROK and DPRK/PRC/Russian Federation. From my experience w/ APEC, I do not disagree w/ a possible "dividing line".

It seems locally that things are "smoke and mirrors". There is a lock down not seen since the 1950's "Red Scare". I don't know if an economy can get stronger in that type of environment short of heavy military armament expenditures. My intuition says "alert".

History is sooooooooo strange. SCAP helped Toyota get back onto its feet, and w/ some luck, Toyota sales soars w/ fuel efficient cars. I helped Toyota to look at a new type of engine, more fuel efficiency when they were on the ropes, Toyota comes up w/ a Hybrid and sales soars w/ fuel efficient hybrid cars. I knew the SCAP person who helped Toyota, and as fate determined, I played a similar role. It is soooooo strange.
