The fundamental problem w/ Afghanistan is that there is no definable target - it is a decentralized grouping of well versed fighters. Anyone taking a glance at the Soviet experience can see that w/ some modern armaments, the warlords can seriously hit and evade a much more powerful force. The…

If there is a war on the horizon, PM Hatoyama may have to pay a "price" for the indiscretion.

"In a demonstration, an MSDF vessel showed how it fends off approaching pirate boats in the sea off Somalia by emitting a special sound that annoys pirates."

To S7ro9kGm3aQ:
"Japan is going to suffer the same problems the UK has with its Europe/US relationship."
Bingoooo! That is very insightful. Japan is closely aligned to US interests and, historically very insular being detached as an "island state". Historically, if Japan does nothing special, they can be "players", but…

"When the going gets tough, the tough goes shopping"
PM Hatoyama is doing the correct thing - if the situation is difficult, take time to research the complete situation since DPJ is new. Also, he should wait until he talks w/ the Director of the NSA to see what the…

These problems about bases in Okinawa will persist until the US Govt. decides to bring the "pros" that can address the underlying problems leading up to the base issue - social concerns. He is not mainstream intelligentsia, but former Prof. Chalmers Johnson should be advising on methods to control problems…

"Dugout Doug" covered his a$$ 100% of the time but left a similar protection for others 0% of the time.
I'll bite. Gen. MacArthur had his faults, and somewhat took orders, but to say he never cared about casualties is a gross error. He was more a "poet…
