Obviously, something would have to happen to justify a massive armada moving into that area.

    To Seiharinokaze,

I have a VERY good chance of being a prophet - Indian Ocean action after the Chinese New Year. Re-read former Pres. Eisenhower's Farewell Address. The US is committed to the groundwork established by the Clinton Administration, and quite frankly, there are few options.

I have been patiently waiting for this policy to start since the late 1990's.

    To Seiharinokaze,

You are correct on that point. The "containment policy" by George Kennan is going to be revived. After winter, keep your eyes on the Indian Ocean.

    To YuriOtani,

"GW, Russia is getting weaker year after year not stronger."

Please research that statement in the near future. All GDP world rankings shows the Russian Federation rising every year, w/ most ranking them in the top 12 GDPs in the world. My estimation is that the Russian Federation WILL hit the top 10 on or after the 2012 APEC Russian Federation as predicted on JT a while back. Japan, from my sources, have done nothing to harm the ascension of the Russian Federation, but helped each other in business. A possibility of a compromise exists.

It is prudent for those who are in a situation to affect this situation to abandon the "all or nothing" negotiating position. So much can be gained by exploring the "grey area".

I'm sure that an accommodation can be negotiated that is in the mutual interests of both parties - not in the immediate future most likely.

I'm sorry, but "heads will have to roll". Those that are entrusted to secure the released info failed, failed miserably. Failure is not an option, but failed they did. This is the basis for good/bad management.

Doesn't the situation demand that the Sec State be in the region to put together a solution?

The PRC has repeatedly advised to convene an emergency 6 Parties Talk to resolve the issue, but it is not being heeded. If the PRC has influence w/ the DPRK, then the emergency meeting is how they see the situation resolving the problems. No meeting, then the PRC can not advise too much.

Woooooooahhhhhh, the Weekend Hackers Brigade is out in full force, I guess.

The most significant support Mr. Assange has received so far has been from Australian FM Rudd, who does see the problems is in US communication security rather than Wikileaks publishing the sensitive info. FM Rudd has given one of Australia's son a chance, a chance mind you, of being able to still be in standing in Australia as a journalist.

FM Rudd is himself in treacherous waters from the Wikileaks, so somewhat courageous.

I can say this... the info on the Wikileaks site is very high quality info. The quality is sufficient to effect change.

"...the email leaked from banks that he is planning to release later. I think those will be much more interesting than the diplomatic cables and the "powers that be" will find them to be much more, shall we say, annoying."

Bingooooo. If that release of banking operations is coming, it would be a significant break of govt. info. If it is not confined to the Treasury Dept., but involves "Banks", the database allegedly pilfered by Pfc. Manning would be a database that goes into the private sector. That "database" would oversee both the US Govt. AND the private sector. That database would be from an overarching surveillance of the US - I can guess, but I'll wait for the actual release.

The clearance level that Wikileaks is releasing is very high - much higher that what a Pfc. military analyst would have a need to see. Would that question be answered publicly if it involves higher ranks?

    To Bigmouth,

You're kidding, right? The talk of treason, assassination, execution applies to Pfc. Manning. If he did leak this, he has a reason. I would like to hear his reasons.

Mr. Assange is the messenger, just like the Washington Post or the NY Times. Wikileaks doesn't have the wherewithal to protect itself like the major media networks.

Does anyone have new info on Pfc. Manning - this is the guy who released classified info way beyond his rank. This is the guy the CIA? is questioning as we speak? If this is a conspiracy, more leaks will continue after this Assange episode.

Mr. Assange is taking all the media attention, but there is a real question about Pfc. Manning. If this disclosure involves others, would the US Govt. allow Pfc. Manning to be "tortured?" I have been informed the US Constitution has been suspended, and the US society is strange, so anything is possible? This event really highlights the issue of "what does the US stand for, if not the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights? I fear I know the answer.

Finally, Mr. Assange is acting on the prevailing principle that the US DOES stand for open govt. as idealized in the US Constitution. I guess history will sort this out.

Just a suggestion - Mr. Assange should embed the theme song of "Mission Impossible" on Wikileaks which automatically comes on when the sight is tabbed. Don't know if there are copyright issues, though.

For those readers on JT who wishes to get a handle on what is going on w/ Wikileaks, it would be fruitful to watch the first "Mission Impossible" movie w/ Tom Cruise. The environment is similar, but the details are not accurate. Mr. Assange is releasing sensitive info. There probably is a "mole hunt" implemented in the US Govt. because it is doubtful Pfc. Manning was able to pilfer the security clearance at his rank - most likely involves higher rank(s). The system has been compromised.

    Ciao.

There is one peculiar aspect to Wikileaks info releases. The sheer volume released at one time. That action would be closer to amateurs dealing w/ sensitive info. However, after perusing the Wikileaks website, Mr. Assange and associates are professional handlers of info. I was surprised that a well funded organization was releasing info/intelligence grade communications like amateurs. Also, there is no more info on how Pfc. Manning acquired such a huge amount of sensitive info - strong implications that people at a higher level is involved. Time will tell.....
