JapanGalFEB. 20, 2012 - 11:23AM JST Things that foreigners find annoying about life in Japan I find it annoying that people that are guests here constantly complain about things they cannot change as it is not their culture.

Agree 100%. Quick to judge, quick to anger. Slow to understand.

Nicky WashidaFEB. 18, 2012 - 02:16PM JST Bless him. I don't know him personally but he seems a lovely caring man who greatly cares for his people.

Really? We all thought you and the Imperial family were the best of friends from way back. LOL!!!

But seriously, I too hope the Emperor recovers soon. Japan doesn't need to go through that sort of crisis and pain right now.

Unfortunately it really does sound like this is just being turned into another "see or be seen" kind of event. Or in Stevie's case, just a "be seen" event. :-(

Outside of nukeprotest's random guesses, can anyone tell me EXACTLY what JX Nippon Oil or the company actually building the tunnel did wrong? I got a pretty penny that if a random inspection took place one hour before the collapse, that none of the JX staff or construction crew would have been found to be doing anything contrary to the book. But of course hindsight is 20/20, isn't it?

nukeprotestFEB. 12, 2012 - 06:23PM JST atadoi asked: Build a 800m long bridge for piping to transport product from one plant to another? Yes! Why? Because building under sea tunnels is expensive and dangerous! Bridges are old tech and lots of engineers are experienced in their safe construction. Undersea tunnels are new tech and few engineers have the necessary skills...as the engineers on this job most obviously didn't!

Those plants are located in the Mizushima Industrial Complex. There are numerous chemical, petroleum, automobile, gas, steel, etc. factories in that complex all sharing the same water access to the Seto Inland Sea. Building a 800m bridge probably would have interfered with all of the tanker, LPG, car carrier, etc. traffic through that channel to some of these plants. If a bridge was as simple and cost effective as you claim it to be then I'm pretty sure those plants would've done it.

Japan has quite a few undersea tunnels for industrial purposes such as pipelines, etc. as well as for trains and automobiles. I drive the Aqua-line quite often and that passes underneath Tokyo Bay for almost 10km. It took 30+ years to complete. The Seikan Tunnel is over 50km long and was finished 80's. The Kanmon Tunnel is almost 4km long and was finished in the 1940s. So, I don't believe the technology is as new as you claim it to be.

nukeprotestFEB. 12, 2012 - 10:39AM JST Next time build a bridge moron company. What a needless waste of life.

Did you even bother reading the story?

The tunnel was intended to be 800 meters long, about 11 meters in diameter and 30 meters deep and was designed to encase pipelines linking two waterfront plants.

This tunnel was piping not people. Build a 800m long bridge for piping to transport product from one plant to another?

Al StewartFEB. 09, 2012 - 01:14PM JST But anyway, she should only be charged for damage of property since she didnt attack the driver. I dont see why they should keep her if she didnt touch the driver. pay a fine and leave the country.

Do you ever bother reading any of the other posts? That's the second time you've posted today without even bothering to read the other posts.

Read MIrai Hayashi's post. It's the one right above yours. She provides a link which says Makiyo did more than just kick the taxi's door.

hoserfellaFEB. 09, 2012 - 01:47PM JST cubic - It could also mean that Ruiz doesn't want to waste his time against Kameda, who everyone knows inflates his win loss record by fighing tomato cans. Not to mention fighting every fight in the friendly confines of Osaka and in front of judges well taken care of.

If the money was right and the timing and other details could be worked out, Ruiz probably wouldn't mind wasting his time.

"We cannot stand the fabrication of a boom any longer," read one placard held by a protester.

    Ha, ha, ha.

And how are most Japanese Pop stars any different? Pink Lady, Checkers, SMAP, Kinki Kids, Morning Musume, AKB47, etc. were/are all fabricated booms. Japan is no different from other countries trying to use "soft power" to their advantage.

Please somebody put this Makoto person in a room with the people tmarie is referring to and make her read this "Honor and Loyalty" out load. She probably wouldn't even last 4.5 sentences before somebody stood and knocked some sense into her.

One difference between Japan and the U.S. is that in the U.S., you choose how you want to live your life. There is no pressure on you to be loyal from society, your country, or anyone. So, in the U.S., people are loyal because they want to be or they choose to be. I find it very admirable when some people choose to live their life in a gracious way.

Where do these people come up with this kind of nonsense?

Nicky WashidaFEB. 02, 2012 - 06:15PM JST 4 1/2 years? Please just put her in a room with me. I would only need 4 1/2 minutes.

I always love reading the "tough guy" (or in this case the "tough girl") posts. What do you actually think you'd be able to accomplish? If anything, you'd probably get an a** kicking that you wouldn't soon forget and end up pleading for the cops to come in and pull this crazy lady off you. @@

Although the circumstances are not quite exactly the same, I find it interesting that a few posters seem to feel that the former Mrs. Darvish has divorced her ex-husband so that she can get more of his money.

Yet, a day ago when the news of Ayumi Hamasaki's divorce broke, many posters were quick to place the blame on her for a variety of reasons. I don't believe anybody accused the soon-to-be former Mr. Hamasaki of being a gold digger.

Could it be that it both cases the issues involved are much more complex than can be easily summarized in a few paragraphs of some news story?

Darvish may do well. I actually kinda hope he does. But, there is no such thing as a "sure thing". Just ask John Cusack. He discovered that back in '85.

Rangers paid that much cause they that's how much he is worth to them. Not signing him would've have been a PR disaster for the team. Besides, I'll bet that they have protected themselves in some way just in case he doesn't pan out.

Also, quite the coincidence that the day Darvish's divorce becomes official is the day the his signing with the Ranger's is announced. As one door closes, another one opens.

JapanGalJan. 17, 2012 - 03:09PM JST Her marriage was performed in Nevada,, so that is where they must file for divorce. Listen clearly Americans especially. Do not get married in the states. Just stick with the ward office here. Will save you money in the long run, especially, if a volcano happens to blow in Hawaii, and you have a yearning to return to America.

Don't think that's correct. Nevada's marriage/divorce laws are quite liberal which is one reason why so many people go to Las Vegas to get married. Probably many of them do not remain in the Nevada and live there after they are married. So, it's hard to imagine that they would have to go back to Nevada if some day they decide to get a divorce.

If, however, what you say is true and she does have to file in Nevada then she's gonna have to establish residency and prove that she has lived there for at least 6 weeks prior to filing. That sort of seems contrary to her statement "I have had the feeling that I don't want to be apart from Japan", doesn't it?

I don't quite get understand why "Forest Rescue Australia" is involved in protecting whales. Have they expanded their activities beyond protecting forests? Are they "environmental activists" for hire? Were they traded to the SSCS for cash and some SSCS activists to be named at a later date?
