First off to be clear I am an American. SO you don't need to be saying things to me like, "In America this, or saying things like "In my country..." I know how "it is".
My point is, people have stereotypical views of things, ask someone what they think a terrorist looks like and they will give you a description of Osama Bin Liden or someone who looks like your 7-11 clerk.
But back on the subject, there is a stereotype, we are always told to "look for suspicious people" yet many of the suspicious people often reported on the news by the general public are minorities or people of color. There are countless reports of middle eastern, people of color, muslims being removed from flights simply because other passengers were not "comfortable" with them. Many of these people are just as American just as you or I, none of them are terrorists, none of them were charged, they were removed because someone felt uncomfortable because that person has a stereotype.
I have stereotypes, you have stereotypes, everyone has stereotypes. I'm just saying "terrorists" come in all shapes and sizes and we need to try to move away from those stereotypes.

I didn't say bank robber was charged or convicted, I'm saying you can be charged because of the broad nature of the definition of "terrorism".
No one said "global terrorism", I'm just pointing out that "terrorism" has a broad definition and there have been many terrorist incidents pre and post 9/11 committed by both Americans and Foreign nationals.

Hate to play both sides, but again, MANY. Terrorism has a very broad definition and due to various laws passed since 9/11, pretty much any major crime can be charged as "terrorism". Rob a bank and the bank robber can be charged with "terrorism". Before and after 9/11 there were and still are many "terrorism" related events.

Newer lines have them because they can be built during construction.
In regards to the hundreds of already existing lines, the problem would be in retrofitting every single rail station platform in a metropolitan area with these gates, talk about disruption?
Notwithstanding on heavily used lines you have trains with different door numberings, one train set might have four doors, another has 6 and another has 8, so alignment would also have to be taken into consideration.
Taking into consideration the number of millions of passengers traveling each day without incident (and I mean accident and not suicide) the system as is is still pretty safe.
Now as regards to some of the barriers, you have two types, some that are there to prevent accident, usually waste high, and others built to the very top ceiling (found in some subways), the waste high ones are good in preventing accident, but anyone wanting to commit suicide can easily jump over one.

How is it not your stereotypical American Police Uniform?
It IS a "American Police Uniform" in that sense.
I don't know about you or if you ever worked in law enforcement, because in the US law enforcement is not centralized there is no "standard" in what uniforms look like, Some places eg uk, japan etc. do have general standards so a uniform in Tokyo pretty much looks the same in Hiroshima. In the US, each jurisdiction has their own standards, some places have excellent uniforms, some departments just throw some stuff together like in the photo.
In the US there's even a "Best Dressed Law Enforcement" award each year.

Double standard, some say Japan is breaking the law so its ok for these vigilanties to take the laws into their own hands. Then someone mentions international waters, but then another person says its Australian waters so what do you want it to be?
Just because someone robs you of your money, you can't take the law into your own hands and rob them back.

Obstruction of business is a broad definition. The IWC allows it, if you have a beef, then take it out with the IWC.
Maybe some readers are missing the part where its when these "activists" actually board a Japanese ship is when Japan can detain them. Not when they are on another ship. I've said it before, I don't care if it is a whaling vessel or a ship full of nuns, if someone illegally boards a ship with the probable intent to cause disruption of operation, or even harm, the ship's crew has a responsibility to protect their vessel and those on board, and knowing the history of these so called activists, I have nothing against Japan detaining them. If it were my ship, I would do the same. I don't care if they are anti whale activists, pirates, or Jahova's witnesses, if they are trying to illegally board my ship, yeah I'm going to detain them, and I'm sure if you were a ship captain you'd do the same exact thing.

No country owns Antarctica or any parts of it. They can only claim parts of it, and Australia's claim is only recognized by four countries . Antarctic territorial claims are not recognized by most countries, including Japan.

They aren't exercising such powers against other ships, they are exercising against people who board their ship.
I'm not a fan of whaling, I don't eat whale, I'm just looking at this from a non whale standpoint. If I'm the Captain of a Ship, and someone boards my ship that I don't want on, I'm going to defend it, I don't care if its Somali Pirates or Sea Sheperd activists. Their goal is to disrupt the operations of my ship and potentially endanger the lives of the people on board.
