I don't think its a pointless line, its designed to offer better convience especially for those who live out north or south, reduce transfers with direct through service trains via different companies, and reduce some congestion on the JR lines.
Why transfer at Ikebukuro to JR, when you could just ride the whole way down without ever changing trains? The Toyoko Line in 2012 is moving underground from its current position (above ground), pretty much smoothing the way all the way down to Yokohama, Toyoko Line+Minato Mirai line without ever needing to change trains.

All they have to do is place up some mobile barriers, or improvise like during riots, use city buses parked diagonally,\ to block large vehicles from entering, but still allowing space for pedestrians to pass around.

Not this article in particular, but I remember reading some of the data factored into these "polls" are the cost of a taxi from the major international airport to the city.
Well yes a cost of taxi from Tokyo proper to Narita Airport is really expensive and is factored into these polls, but these polls don't take into the fact that MOST people don't take taxi's from Tokyo to Narita Airport.

Guy probably just picked pocketed someone or shoplifted, the cops stopped to search him (like I said before a bunch of reasons or no reasons at all), but because the recent knife incident, JT throws this up as a picture of the day, so that some can imply that the cops are doing bag searches in direct relation to the knife incident.

The picture doesn't tell the story, it just says a "chubby cop searches a man's bag" wow great "News" story there. There could be a million reason's why he's checking the bag.
