Love from your neighbor only goes so far. When people grow up in loveless households and are treated as objects or status symbols, it's difficult to overcome.

Parents are supposed to love their kids and take care of them until they can love and take care of themselves. Doesn't sound like this woman and her dead kids had anything remotely close to that.

There are many, many others just like her that are dangerously close to such a horrible act of misguided desperation.

However, from a objective scientific viewpoint, any society with over a hundred million people is bound to have it's fair share of kid killing parents in every generation, despite the amount of love between neighbors.

The Robotic Bed is designed to help people with limited mobility...

And what about people with limited mobility that don't have eighteen billion yen to spend on this thing?

What a horrible story. Who knows what was going through this woman's mind.

If Japan were to develop some kind of social program for nutters like this, they would have to admit that safety japan has it's share of problems.

Unfortunately, that ain't gonna happen any time soon.

I have been told on several occasions that if you are sitting in the backseat, you don't need to wear a seat belt. It's common knowledge in safety Japan.

Remember, public beliefs take a while to change, despite how obviously wrong they might be. When Detroit first started making cars with seat belts and safety features in the fifties, people thought that it meant the cars were unsafe, so it a while for the public to swallow it.

Japan needs to spend some serious effort, at the government level, to convince people that seat belts, child seats are necessary and required.

And when I say serious effort, I don't mean putting up some posters with happy cartoon characters wearing seat belts. Start giving tickets to ALL drivers not wearing them, and especially tough fines and penalties for not putting kids in child seats.

Of course that presupposes that those in the government here are concerned with anything other than getting elected and staying power.

Was there something cooking in the pan, like fried chicken or bacon? Or did he have to reach up and get it out of the cupboard?

Normal kids learn to cook by watching and helping their parents in the kitchen. I suspect the parents of these kids are after something else entirely.

How did they catch the guy? Did this criminal genius give the girl his namecard before he raped her?

Anyhow, good on the victim for stepping forward and reporting it with enough info to catch the creep. Hope the idiot goes away for a long time.

What on earth were they doing calling the POLICE?! It's a freakin' medical emergency, not a crime.

I always wonder the same thing. I guess it's proper "procedure." The police need to determine if they need an ambulance or not. It would appear that most Japanese are more concerned with following the proper "procedure" than actually taking the time to think and make a judgment call themselves.

I always wonder a bit how long this "adult" saw the kid before he fell. Did he watch with passive disinterest while the kid was out on the ledge? Did he scream at him to go inside? did he look frantically around to see if somebody could help prevent a tragedy? After he fell, did he go and see if he could help the kid in anyway? (12 meters it not automatically fatal).

Did he have an opportunity to call the cops BEFORE the kid jumped/fell?

Dad should have been more concerned that his sixteen year old angel was trolling for unemployed men twice her age on a cell phone dating website.

I don't blame the 38 y/0 one bit. Being 38, unemployed and meeting a 16 y/o honey on cell phone site is like hitting the jackpot.

It could very well be that this whole incident was a ploy by the girl to anger her dad. It did go down at her place after all. If that's the case, I feel even worse for the victim. Lured to a girl's house into some family-head-trip and end up getting stabbed to death.

Beware those seemingly sweet j-girls, they can be deadly.

How about drivers that are actually required pay attention to where they are going? Talk on the phone? Lose your license. Put up curtains that make you feel like you are in your living room, but impair your vision? Lose your license.

The propensity of the J-government to require as little conscious thought as possible from the population is staggering.

The girl in question had been in trouble with police since February of this year for offenses such as selling her underwear on dating websites, and she revealed information about the incident with Yamauchi during questioning.
