Values are not values until they are tested. An America that flushes its values down the toilet through

The values that were tested, and prevailed, were those of self preservation. Some values are more important than others. That is why during a war the some of the values that are inherent in the constitution are temporarily superceded by the value of the country itself.

History is not all roses and rainbows. In order to survive, sometimes the survival of the many outweigh the rights of the few.

Some battles were purposely lost in Europe to not let the Nazis onto the fact that the allies had broken their codes. Innocents left to die, to secure a larger victory.

Looking at the internment camp issue through the lens of 20/20 history makes it look like a obviously racist and illegal act. But when your country is at war, and there is significant doubt you will survive (the U.S. was not nearly the superpower then that it is now), you do EVERYTHING you can think of to prevail. EVERYTHING. Even when you know that history will later judge you accordingly. The decision to intern Japanese americans was not done in the interest of civil liberties, or voter appreciation, or a bump in the polls but to WIN A WAR.

In order to win wars as big and important as WWII, you gotta do some dirty stuff.

The leaders of the two largest economies of the world are trying to fix their respective economies by throwing more money at them, which of course has to come from taxpayers. Call it what you want with whatever clever linguistic reframes (it's not socialism, it's helping the people..) redistribution of wealth will only slow down the economy. And when the two largest economies are both following the same foolish, voter approval seeking, economic plan, deeper, longer, global economic problems are certain.

Just wait until Joe Sato on the street realizes that the biggist shift in political power in fifty years won't do a frikkin thing for his bottom line. That's when the fit will really hit the shan. You think people have a lack of faith in government now.

Good thing the cops caught this perv in the act. Otherwise I doubt that the cops would do anything even if the girl reported it.

Yet another example of cops only capable of doing their jobs when the crime, perpetrator, and confession is literally handed to them on a platter.

“His father was someone I hated.”

Unfortunately, with skyrocketing single motherhood here, many kids will grow up without the love and motherly kindness they need for that very reason. More so if the kid happens to be a boy, and reminds her the man she hates.

What happens to a woman like this?

I give Hatoyama less then one year. He promised populist things he knows he can't fulfill, and trying to fund those promises will just crumple the economy. Let's just hope I'm wrong

Sounds another recently elected world leader that promised sweeping change, only to later realize it would only come at record deficit spending and record debt levels.

You can only live off deficit spending for so long.

    Anyhow, good luck PM.

Do they allow for anonymous calls for emergency services? If the guy who asked his friend who then called the emergency services could have called anonymously, it might have saved time, and she might still be alive.

It astounds me the number of times there's a case like, and the first person on the scene doesn't call for paramedics automatically, rather they call a friend, or their boss, or their manager or supervisor.

They could save a lot of lives simply by drilling into the population:

medical emergency = immediately call 119, no questions.

I can't help but feel that there is an enormous waste of artistic talent that goes into making hentai porn and the like. Some of these guys can really draw... and this is what they chose to create? Such a shame.

One of the wonderful things about capitalism is that if you are talented enough, you can make quite a bit of money. I suspect the guys that draw that hentai porn quite enjoy their work and likely get paid handsomely for it. If we could all be so lucky.

This tool used this to get "street cred" both in Japan and in the states and to get publicity for his "exhibit."

I suspect he made a donation to the police retirement fund in order to pay for his "publicity"

Police received an emergency call about 1:40 p.m., reporting that a man with a knife was chasing a woman in Funabashi City

It's distressing that somebody saw him before he killed her and nobody intervened. At least they could have shouted at him that the cops were on the way or something, or ask him please don't kill her. Sad.

And just like in "hachi" the cats will still show up at her apartment looking for food.

30 y/o woman, likely, low self esteem, finds herself pregnant. Kid turns out to be not the answer to her prayers, but a new adventure in the nightmare of daily life. She leaves him in the car for only a few moments respite, loses track of time. This happens all too easily in world filled with six billion people, many of whom simply do not value life all that much. This woman has brought irreparable shame to her entire family, and likely extreme hatred from the poor kid's father's family.

entered the unlocked sixth-floor apartment at about 10 a.m. and asked the 23-year-old postgraduate student to let him hide in the apartment. He then entered the toilet and locked it. The student called police at about 11.40 a.m.

Hour forty minutes. That's a long time sitting around wondering what to do with a goofball professor locked in your toilet. Kid must've been thinking:

"Damn, he really has a long one..."
