Unless you've been in Taro's situation, you can't really judge. While there are doubtless many flakes to sponge off their parents for far too long, there's still a few cases where Taro is really at the end of his rope, and not just some lazy freeter.
These are tough times, and they only gonna get tougher. Rainy days are coming, save up and prepare.

reps. They could easily have made it safer, completely free from things to crash into and still put in some kind of closed circuit cameras for the viewers. While I understand that guys attempt to save face by saying "human error," this could easily have been prevented with a better design.
I suspect history will show the course designers as responsible for this accident. At least the poor dude was killed so fast that he likely had no idea what happened. One minute he was in the middle of fulfilling what was likely a life long dream, and next thing he knows he's waiting in line at the pearly gates.

Face it Japan, it's not just Toyota, it's lots of little things that are starting to add up that are making you look more and more like a selfish little kid than a team player on the global field.
A random list:
Kicking out U.S. Troops
Continued Whale Hunting
Refusal To Sign Hague Convention
Poor Cars And a Failure to Acknowledge them
Drunken Ministers at International Meetings
And most recently, that goofball snowboarder and his obvious disdain for the centuries old Olympics.
Get with it Japan, you can't pretend to be isolated any more.

to anyone who thinks that this poor dude contributed in any way to his sons lunacy, I suggest you ask yourselves why the millions of other folks in Japan with emotionally detached parents don't go on random killing sprees.
While it pales in comparison to all the other innocents whose lives this nutcase ruined, he surely ruined his fathers retirement.

That's pretty much the gist of it.
At the very least, any conclusions based on self reported information via the Internet is suspect at best. Unless of course the real intention is to get more grant money for more questionable studies.
As far as a college called "women's.." whatever, I think it's just a name. There's a couple in the states with the same name, but its name only.

worse yet, you're usually on the hook to reciprocate. Especially in the office. well constructed social engineering by the candy company. Good on these gals once more for resisting their "expected" roles and helping the needy.

The husband should have ditched her after the first abuse. And why did the cops take so long to arrest her? She killed the poor kid in November, the hospital called the cops shortly thereafter, and she has a history of abuse. Did it take the cops that long to put two and two together? She went back to her hometown for crying out loud. It's not like she was hiding in a cave somewhere. Nutter J-women everywhere. Be careful.

Kids = glorified pets is spot on.
At the very least she could be arrested for negligence resulting in death. She should be a suspect in this case, as I suspect we will see further news on this in the future.

Yep, increasing numbers of old people, no money and no will to take care of them, and kids that have no job skills... this is just a disaster waiting to happen for these old folks.
Abuse will only increase, especially with the bureaucratic sluggishness that the government responds to cases like this. Not a lot of compassion in this country.

Yep. This isn't a pretend tea party with your imaginary friends, Japan, this is business, and billions of dollars are at stake. When there's a global economic crisis, the gloves come off. Business is war, and all is fair in love and war.

Nails. There are very few Japanese who actually want to "learn English," because they honestly see themselves in the future "speaking English."
The vast majority of people in eikawa are there for an English speaking experience with a foreigner in a controlled environment.
As far as the above school only accepting 5% of applicants, that's pretty standard for any school that advertises on gaijin pot, as most job listings there get thousands of resumes as a matter of course.
I'd put Eikaiwa's in Japan in the same category of hostess bars and maid cafe's. A hobby, or reality diversion that people use disposable income on. Not to learn any real usable skills.
Those in Japan who really want to learn to speak English will do so with or without the eikaiwa industry.
As for kids, often times the eikaiwa is nothing more than expensive daycare with added benefits, giving the parents a couple hours of free time and the illusion that their kids will benefit somehow.

A few problems with Toyota, struggling US automakers, and US congressman desperately trying to keep their union supporters in their jobs are milking this problem for all it's worth. All this is shaping up to be a perfect storm for Toyota, and in turn Japan's worldwide image as a producer of quality cars. For the sake of the Japanese economy and their future, I hope they weather this storm.
There is a global economic crisis, and business is a war fought just as enthusiastically as real wars. American automakers and the congressmen that support them will do anything to gain market share.
Anything.
Watch your step, Toyota.
