    apecnetworks:

For readers of JT, those who need to understand the disaster better, Klein2 has laid out a vital aspect of the situation.

This is underestimating the readers of JT, and very condescending. I think we understand all too well.

stevecpfc at 09:37 PM JST - 13th April The heads of Tepco should be facing criminal charges as soon as possible.

This is absolutely true. Anyone in a position of authority at TEPCO should be prosecuted to the maximum. Saying that they could not predict a huge tsunami is nonsense. They were warned over and over, and chose to ignore the warnings, perhaps hoping that the big one would occur after their time. Well the time has come, and you have to pay the piper. History, and the Japanese who came centuries before, has shown, in writing, in stone, that another big one would come. If you are putting nuke plants by the ocean, you have to plan for that. Otherwise, you are criminally negligent, at best.

ps. take a look at the world time zone map. It's easy to see where the problem lies.

    presto:

'The Japanese this, the Japanese that' like they're from a different planet. And 'we' have all the answers; only 'we' know what summertime is. The whole nation of Japan being so different from 'ourselves' haven't got a clue; the wisdom is ours. Of course. What arrogance.

It's a big world out there, and Japan is a tiny galapagos, yes, w/o a clue in many ways.

I love to live in Japan - this is the second of two crime stories here on April 12th! Only two crimes worth reporting on. What a safe country we have here! (No sarcasm meant. Truly grateful.)

elbudamexicano at 06:15 PM JST - 11th April All of Japan should start this new summer time, Japan has been wasting too much money, electricity for not having the change in the hours when the sun in Japan is already out at 3am??

Amen bud. So silly to have the sun rise at 5am and set at 6pm, wasting so many hours of light. This is partly due to the unfortunate situation of Japan being misplaced in time zone nine, the same zone as Korea and parts of Russia far to the west:

It's past time to sort out this ludicrous situation. According to Wikipedia:

There is a tendency to draw time zone boundaries far to the west of their meridians. Many of these locations also use daylight saving time. As a result, in the summer, solar noon in the Spanish town of Muxia occurs at 14:37 (2:37pm) by the clock. This area of Spain never experiences sunset before 18:00 (6pm) local time even in midwinter, despite its lying more than 40 degrees north of the equator. Near the summer solstice, Muxia has sunset times similar to those of Stockholm.

On the other hand, Japan's time zone, set in 1886, is far to the east of the meridian, giving us us sunsets around 4:30 in winter.

    We need more sunshine.

No, no, don't let in the creeping cancer of customer choice! We might be dragged into the 20th Century. Oh, too late, it's the 21st Century.

Germany’s Lufthansa airline became the first major European carrier Tuesday to announce that its daily flights to Tokyo will be diverted from Japan’s disaster zone

    Talk about chicken sh!t.

This weekend, Lufthansa started to check planes returning from Tokyo for excessive levels of radiation, but none was detected.

But diverted. Who can get to Tokyo, or north, from Osaka? It's despicable!

Yep, totally disgusting. Is it just because it was their son? The penalty should be more than usual, as that poor guy had to watch as his own parents slowly murdered him. How excruciatingly heartbreaking and torturous that must have been! How about the death penalty, even though I don't believe in it?

I agree with this assessment of Aural Assault - the constant screaming has turned Japan into a nation of aural addicts, and the train companies into a grinding group of enablers. It's truly disgusting. Time to grow up.
