Of my senior university students, 1 of 7 has a job. The rest cannot find any employment. The economy is going downhill fast. The problem is exacerbated by the fact that recruiting happens only once a year, and only for graduates. Former graduates will be outside of the employment loop for life. What an inane system of hiring. Corporate Japan needs a big kick in the rear end.

It is disgusting that the companies that enslaved these men won't acknowledge them. Shows that deep down, not much has changed in corporate Japan, or the government for that matter. It is remarkable that Ambassador Fujisaki took it upon himself to reach out. He will probably lose his standing when he returns to Japan though.

Yes, this happens around the globe, but these kind of family murders happen here all too often. The lack of social support systems in Japan is criminal. We pay taxes, and get no services.

The poor 12-year-old who ran over and killed Peter Lenz. He will be haunted by this probably his whole life. I don't think young kids should be allowed to do this. And I think Lenz's parents should be charged with criminal child neglect.

" I’m surprised those in sound trucks don’t catch a brick through their window, tossed from the balcony"
It's too bad nobody with any pull reads these articles. I am so tired of the recycle guys. I keep a big ol' rock on my upstairs windowsill. So far I haven't thrown it, but one day . . . .

Once I got married, and had my son, I had all the kozukai I needed - love and affection. My job is to work, support my family, provide a future for them. Those are my needs. If anything else comes along, it's dessert. Don't need it.

caffeinebuzz at 11:33 AM JST - 7th July In my mid-sized city I bike everywhere unless the weather is crap. As long as you follow the rules of logic and take care, there should be no reason to be causing anyone irritation just by daring to ride a bike. Personally I think it's great that bikes are in widespread use. If you're going somewhere that would take too much time to walk, why not ride instead of hopping in the car, wasting petrol and a good chance to get some exercise. Going out on a limb, but it might be a contributing factor to the overall healthiness of people here compared to all the fatties back home. Some cyclists are pains for sure, but definitely pale in comparison to taxi drivers, clueless obasans, the Kei truck driving living-dead, and drivers with kids clambering all over the seats.
Caffeine is the voice of reason here in a sea of B.$.

"Accommodations start at 28,350 yen per night for a double bedded room"
With the cost of getting there, and a 3 night stay, the price is easily up around a round trip ticket with hotel to Phuket, Australia, etc.
Ridiculous price to travel in Japan.
