You have a pretty big imagination if you think you'll have four gang members attack a restaurant owner with weapons for a pic they took as a tourist.

Yeah, because the Japanese never wear English t-shirts with words they don't understand. That's just what foreigners do.

I mean, a lot more people die riding a bike, driving a car, swimming in a pool, or even playing golf (literally). One person slipping off a cliff while taking photographs is nothing to get carried away over.

I'm all against people being rude and arrogant about their hobbies, but even this article admits these incidents aren't common and don't reflect most enthusiasts. It even reasons that these incidents are increasing because nowadays they happen more than once. Wow.
This is akin to saying that Japanese people are extremely violent and attack at random, merely by listing notable examples.

SiouxChief, he tried to murder three people. Two he succeeded, and the other one was while he was in prison after being convicted. It was my mistake to think he actually murdered the other man, but it doesn't really change the fact that he should never have been let out after attempted murder. He murdered two people after that.

This would all be simpler if they allowed dual citizenship and reformed the naturalization process. Don't see that happening any time soon.

"Poor judgement", more like a soldier that doesn't like following orders aka insubordinate. This douchebag has a history of being a prima donna.

'Hikiji’s motive could be ‘‘exhibitionistic,’’ Fukushima said, as a means of letting the nation know about his unhappiness.' Spot on assessment. This is why you can't stop these people through laws or policy. Although you can certainly stop them by not reporting them, that's not going to happen because it's newsworthy. We just have to accept that there are people without morals or fear of consequences.

In this case, the killer murdered even though he was in prison. It's just an extreme example of the innocent people murdered by the lack of a death penalty. That's indisputable. The debate is where you balance the two.
Of course, there will always be plenty of people who blindly support more murder of innocent people by convicted murderers. You can tell who they are by their ridiculous logic and name calling in discussions like these.

Better to have bad manners than be violent to strangers - especially in this case he nearly murdered him with the incoming train.

The one thing Japan needs to do is have life guards at the beach. So many lives get saved here in CA thanks to life guards, it's worth it.

Big deal about nothing. Management has nothing to complain about, this is what they signed up for. They don't even sound very competent if all they can do is complain and sow discontent among factions of their own employees. It's no different than unions that have coffee breaks written into their contracts. Tough.

As pointed out, the chance of dying in a car accident in Japan are over ten times that in other industrialized countries. But fewer people die simply because fewer people drive. Some people are confused between these two - it's like saying China has a higher rate of obesity than the US because there are more fat people in China (true).

Well obviously they're referring to the PM post. The puppet changes but not always the hand.
Most of the people complaining are just sore losers who have nothing better to offer than the people leaving office. Kind of like the Tea Party in the US.

"The constant change in Japan’s leadership has made it difficult for the government to maintain consistent policies" I don't think inconsistent policies has anything to do with changing leadership. Have we already forgotten Hatoyama? Please.
