They are catered towards JT viewers naturally. I hope JT does more reviews of books and even movies.

Yesterday, in fact. Whiskey is both tasty and is great at cleaning white erase boards (higher alcohol content and cheaper than solution you get at the store). Now you know. Personally, I prefer an occasional Cognac, beer, and Hi Chu. But the last two leave strong smells on the white board.

Sure, but it can't be the status quo. It has to be safer and smarter, whether that comes in higher liability caps or higher safety standards. By smarter, it's important that we extract as much oil as economical by longterm standards, rather than burning through oilfields using inefficient methods. Many methods only extract half the oil and spoil the rest, mainly to save money (the other half becomes costlier as the pressure drops) which makes sense in the short term except in the long term oil will be worth more and would justify a more conservative method.

There's several very good reasons why banks don't want to deal with Americans, mainly because of laws Congress have passed. There are tax reporting requirements uniquely for Americans, there are regulations that open you up to lawsuits and criminal charges with Americans (Swiss banks got hit with huge lawsuits and criminal charges by the US government), and then some. These laws exist for a good reason and I'm not attacking them, but it needs to be pointed out that American customers require a lot more paperwork and liability to serve. That's just the way it is.

Frankly, international banking is a mess anyways whether you're American or not. Incompatabilities across the world, the fact that only a few ATMs in Japan even accept foreign cards (Citi being one of them), etc.. The world is just a bit backwards on this, mainly because there aren't enough customers who need such services to justify the effort.

Well if the judge feels bond at $25K is enough to compel his return, there must be a reason. Like if this guy frequents Hawaii and has roots there. More likely, even a conviction wouldn't be so serious that you'd skip on $25K of your own money to avoid it. The criminal penalty for carrying on a weapon usually isn't that high, he might avoid jailtime.

Actually it's Japan that's violating all agreements and trust, not America. But continue to be deluded. If you want to give Okinawans what they want, give them their own country.

There's a pretty silly presumption that if you have no military nobody will attack you in the future. The future is a long time away, and even recent history has shown how helpless Japan is against North Korean and Chinese provocation. Good luck without your allies though.

As an op ed piece, I respect that the author has a different opinion that I or someone else may hold. But it doesn't sound like he's making a convincing argument for anything, just repeating what he believes. He could certainly argue for something constructive, but the only thing I see is complaining and bashing. Which is perfectly fine if there's a purpose to it. A lot of things are simply assertions of opinion as fact - it may well be perfectly true but you need to back it up. Just being constructive here.

I welcome any effort to enforce immigration laws, yet at the same time Arizona is pretty racist just the same. I don't blame them, but I have to roll my eyes when they talk about this issue on their high horse and pretend like racial profiling isn't already happening.

The problem is we have a ridiculously long border with another country, and that country is full of people that would like to work here. Even better enforcement is going to have limited effect and is not the real solution. It only makes for campaign promises.

The good news is by the time we realize "new new enforcement" isn't enough, that politician will have a cozy job as an incumbent.

People like to think there's an easy solution to problems. They're wrong.

Just goes to show, you can accuse anybody of groping, gang beat him, and the police will believe you and interrogate him from night to morning on your drunken word alone.

This hurts the innocent more than the guilty. Even in Roman times it was said that if it were merely sufficient to accuse, what will happen to the innocent?

While I agree Japan is pretty advanced on the ice cream front, it's thanks to Haagen Daas - an American corporation. Japan also is very advanced in bottled tea. The biggest seller? Coca Cola - again an American corporation. Nothing wrong with that, I just find it ironic. Competition is good for everyone, I just hope these companies actually make quality products for us Americans too. I joke with my wife that Tropicana takes all the good grapes and sends it to Japan, leaving the crappy ones for America.

These are copycat attacks. When someone sees a mass murderer make the front page, they want to be that person too. Some people just want their existence and anger to be acknowledged, and their last resort is to go on a killing spree. You can't fix crazy, and copycat sprees like this are inevitable the world over. I'm sorry, but that's just the way the world works.

This just exposes yet another religion to the world about what they really believe in. Unfortunately for Islam, most of the other world religions went on crazy killing sprees hundreds of years ago before the internet and worldwide commerce.

This is why it's all the more funny when Muslims talk about the Crusades. At least the Christians don't do them anymore. At least..

Actually, the Klingons were modeled after the Mongols. The Romulans were modeled after the Russians. This is why before the Cold War the main enemy was Klingons, but Next Generation focused on the Romulans.

As someone who reads Kotaku (where Brian Ashcraft frequently posts), I do not find this book surprising. Let's just say his interest in Japanese schoolgirls is not academic or coincidental.

Anyone who says this is the center of Japanese culture is self projecting. It's an important part, but I guess if you spend all day surfing the net for them you'll think they're the most important. Sure.

No, China bans all handguns. Murderers must do their killing by knife. We're lucky that no one in this incident died, although it obviously happen. If it had been a "classic" shooting like in the US, you'd have a lot more fatalities. That said, I don't see how this has anything to do with guns. These crimes have occurred since the before written history. They just only get international coverage these days, thanks to the internet.

Out of a billion people, it's quite surprising that there are only a few dozen stab-everyone-in-sight sprees a year. Most people off themselves, starve on the streets, or end up in institutions.

Do the protesters like this crime ridden pothole or what? I understand why they're upset but they don't seem to notice the big elephant standing next to them. They should be outraged that Nike wasn't asked to rebuild this area sooner, if they really cared at all about the area. Instead, they're probably only upset because they don't like Nike getting naming rights.

I like how quick they're to bring up "Japan bashing" when "Swiss bashing" and "US bashing" and every manner of Xenophobia is the norm with foreign products. They need to take a good look in the mirror because they're really projecting their own beliefs here. Toyota got a slap on the wrists compared to Schindler over the number of people that died here.
