Right or wrong, breaking the law means facing the law. If you want to protest by breaking the law then go ahead, just don't complain when they do exactly what you intended by locking you up. I'm not sure he has anything against being locked up, because this is actually part of the plan. What's the controversy here?

They need to just make the public aware that they are doing this, and that these cell phones are for official business and not disaster porn for cops. If it was a personal cell phone, it would be totally inappropriate and worth punching the cop in the face over. Thus this is a big misunderstanding.
Have the cell phones clearly labeled, and make sure you prosecute officers for using them inappropriately such as violating a person's privacy.

Good for them. This and all the domestic terrorists threatening the governers and murdering doctors certainly paint a noble cause for the ultra right. I love how they're putting real conservatives to the fire for being too liberal.
Gee, weren't trying to be the world police and eroding the Constitution liberal ideals? Seems liberal is now the new extreme right. Hypocrites, all of them.

As much as I've criticized Toyota earlier, this is exactly what they should be doing. It should go without saying that more car companies will follow suit if they haven't already done this.

There are two solutions. Either cancel the defense agreement and base the marines elsewhere, or tell the head of Okinawa that he doesn't speak for all of Japan's interests. Everyone's going to have a not in my backyard attitude, but this is ridiculous.

I agree with mike, my son has gotten bruised from falling. I see other children with them too. So did I when I was a kid. I love how you automatically assume that means we're child abusers, because that would include pretty much every parent who's ever had a kid who fell.

Good article, but it's a stretch to say there's a fundamental problem with any language that uses kawaii to describe both a dog and human. The English language - with the most diverse vocabulary in human history - also allows you to say cute about both a dog and human every day.
That said, this article has an English bias that comes from Anglo-saxon assumptions about how many words a language should have. English is in the extreme minority here in human history, because almost every other language including the vast majority of Europe also repeat words rather than choose diversity of expression. English is so uniquely fixated and obsessed with this that it is a rule in English that you vary vocabulary when possible by using synonyms - something unthinkable in most languages. English is uniquely obsessed with synonyms, to the point that there are words that occur 2-3 times per billion billion words in English literature.
Other than that, good work.

HeyLars, the article clearly states that the 600 video tapes contained recordsing of immoral encounters with perhaps several dozen young female victims. They were found at his residence, and the only thing in dispute is if they belonged to him.

Today's pre-testimony points out and I quote '..we now have 39 deaths attributed to sudden acceleration in Toyotas," Towns said. "To give that horrifying number perspective, there were 27 deaths attributed to the famous (Ford) Pinto exploding gas tank of the 1970s.'
Slap on the wrists compared to Ford.

Look, it's just their turn. Ford went through the same thing when they killed dozens of people and issued a massive recall, nearly put a multi-billion dollar international tire company out of business too.
And yes, it was the US government that forced them to recall too. And yes, in Toyota's case the Japanese government is investigating them too. Just goes to show you how little the conspiracy theorists know before they open their mouths.

They should simply give students who misbehave a warning and then expulsion. On first warning, it needs to be stamped by their parents to show they acknowledge the consequences of another infraction. If not, then they can be expelled on first violation.
Of course some horrible parents are going to be pissed off at this policy, and I don't particularly blame them. But the cold fact is 30 other parents are going to be delighted that their child has a better shot at a real education thanks to cutting out the cancer.

Now the Japanese know how we felt in the 80s. Big deal, we're all one people of one race.
Metaphile, you do realize we had World War Two about 60 years ago thanks to Germany and Japan right? China's amibitions are small fries in comparison. Please have a sense of proportion when making this comparison. I don't approve of China's behavior either, but use a better example than war and Japan.

Well I hope they eventually work things out and all the car makers and safety groups learn something out of this. It sounds like there's plenty of blame to go around, no need to scapegoat people. That said, we need to stop the culture of denial in both automakers and regulators.
If people had a clearer picture of facts, they'd be less prone to panic and overreact to problems that admittedly exist among all car makers. Toyota's mistake is a coincidence of multiple problems revealed in a short period of time, and a culture of dismissal of said issues. Some other car makers are only getting by because their cars are inherently less safe, rather than defective. Lucky them. That said, I'd recommend a Honda having owned both brands.

Captain Obvious here, but lots of criminals have brothers and sisters who do not commit crime. In fact, there's fairly little correlation there. But that doesn't stop Nazis and North Korea from believing otherwise. Welcome to their club.
