People like him give fat people a bad name. They're not all pretentious douchebags who think the world owes them every step of the way.

Use some common sense. The windows were closed, and the little girl opened them. Younger kids have done the same.

Love all the presumptuous commenters here who don't know the facts of the case and accuse the parents of being out partying, etc..

pointofview, that's ironic considering this is exactly the same treatment Japanese husbands get from their own legal system. The fact that Japan is reconsidering signing the Hague treaty on behalf of foreign fathers is proof that foreigners have more rights than Japanese under their own government! Get your facts straight here. The Japanese system is screwing everyone, not just foreigners.

Blue Tiger, there's no benefit to him not to sign anything, as the legal system would have definitely denied him the right regardless. His chances were higher simply for signing it, however unlikely the result. This is the same reason why you dig your own grave when they have a gun to your head - there is the off chance it's a mock execution, but no chance they won't fire if you try to escape.

And naming his wife is nothing compared to what she's done to her own daughter, if not to her father. I'm surprised you bothered to even mention it in this context.

What's sad is even if Japan ends its child abduction policy, 99.99% of cases of divorce will still end in giving the mother sole custody as they do not involve actual abduction. That said, by and large it's Japanese fathers getting screwed here by their own government. It's ironic that it's actually the .01% of foreign fathers who had their children abducted that are even making any progress on this issue. Foreigners are getting better legal treatment than the Japanese here! Of course, foreign fathers like Del Vecchio are still out of luck as no abduction was involved, as are Japanese citizens.

browny, there's no accounting for crazy. And that father's crazy by any Japanese standard, no matter who his daughter married. Although certainly there was embellishment to this story, as there always is when told 2nd hand. Obviously their marriage was not doing as well later on as when it started. That happens every day, but I always hear a different story when the father tells it.

    Fast thinking!

Getting a bill for dying on JR is a popular urban legend. Which JR is happy not to deny. There is no such provision in existence, only intentionally placed rumors. And no, there is no Nigerian princess for you to rescue either.

On one hand, children are entitled to make some very dumb mistakes. On the other, they should be taught to fix their mistakes and clean up after themselves. Either they should repair all the damage and pay for materials, or their parents should teach that lesson.

The difference is the father did not break the law or stalk any woman, the son did. If you don't understand the difference, you need help.

What does this have to do with other car companies whatsoever? Most of the people criticizing Toyota have no recent problem with Hondas, Fords, and any other international car company. Toyota screwed up all on its own, in a quest to cut corners and costs. This is exactly why it's #1 and not a better car company like Honda.

"Sounds like the ingredients for any Italian Pasta." Where do you think Pasta and rice originated? Traders brought it from China to Naples where it spread, along with other goods such as silk and crafts.

The news just gets worse every day. If this were a foreign company in Japan, they'd be demanding resignations across the board. Oh wait, they've already done that over and over for other companies who did only a fraction of Toyota's wrong.

Exactly, it's a big mistake for Toyota to blame the media or one government, seeing as how multiple governments including Japan were investigating them and multiple agencies around the globe were tracking rising complaints against them for years. Bottom line, their apology can never be sincere so long as they deflect blame from themselves in such an arrogant fashion.

Toyota's getting a slap on the wrists compared to companies like Schindler, and even Ford when it was forced (by the US government) to do a massive recall years back. So get over it - you are not getting a hard time for what you did, if anything you're getting it easy.

The chief problem is not that there are recalls - lots of car companies issue them. It's that Toyota knew about these problems for years, fixed them only in new production cars, and let people die and get injured because of them. Now they can barely muster a proper apology (today being the one exception) and continue speak arrogantly. Get your facts straight.

Finally, an actual apology unlike the half-hearted one last week. Wake up, several of these problems have been in Toyota cars for years. Honda and Ford are having recalls too, but they didn't lie about them repeatedly for years like Toyota. Toyota flat out denied the three recall problems, even when every day we find out more documented cases going back years - including the problem with Prius brakes. They're still in denial.

Read the latest news, and it turns out Prius has had documented braking problems going back to 2005. It may have gotten suddenly worse in 2010 due to ABS programming, but it's been a recurring problem.

Toyota makes good cars, but when it makes mistakes it needs to own up to them not deny and delay fixing them. I'm always surprised that Toyota is the most popular choice when Hondas are much more reliable overall.
