Same thing happens all over the world. Something about burning down churches that turns muslims on. Which inevitably leads to the other side burning down mosques. Only atheists win in the end.

So ironic, considering France literally did occupy Haiti. Brutally.
Everybody wants their plane to be the one that lands. Simply have the balls to say you're more important than everyone else, rather than hiding behind excuses.

I've always wanted to do a photoshop of Limbaugh and Michael Moore making out, it would be very appropriate considering how much they depend on each other for their careers.

“We’re a kilometer from the airport and we’re going to die of hunger.” Right, because only people within a kilometer of the airport should get any food. Some of these people are even literally blaming God. Disasters bring out the best and worst in people.
I like that groups are complaining about being turned away without even considering why. It doesn't occur to them that there are more airplanes landing than the landing strip can handle. What they really don't have the balls to say is that they think they're more important than the other planes that are landing. I dare them to say what they're really thinking.

Why would it be surprising that avocadoes cost more in Japan than California, where it grows everywhere. Guess what, native Japanese food costs more here than in Japan!

Beelzebub, Nothing wrong about you pointing out that autopsies aren't done enough, but to jump to the conclusion that this guy was murdered just makes you weaker than the prison system you're criticizing.

Um dolphin you misread the article in a pretty funny way. The 20,000 yen to 30,000 yen allowance comes from their wives, not their company. It's not free.
30,000's not a lot considering it's all personal expenses including clothes. Among my wife's friends, they feel sorry when they hear a husband is getting 40,000 but they're middle upper class. There are plenty of families with almost nothing to spare.

Great article, lots of interesting info. If the stats are correct, simply a warning works in 90% of the cases which makes sense. Most stalkers are not hardcore or even aware that they've crossed the line. In the US we helped a friend confront one and he was genuinely surprised of being accused of stalking.
In Hayakawa's case, she was specifically asked to file charges but she didn't because she felt sorry for the guy. So this is not an example at all of the the law being ineffective, because in Japan the police are not legally allowed to file charges without her permission (unlike say the US).
Certainly though, there are going to be stalkers where a warning isn't going to work and the warning sets them off. But unlike Pokemon you can't catch em all.

Agreed, Yoshinoya while not spectacular is certainly better than lots of food you'll find in the US. Besides, this guy wanted convenience. If he stole money, he'd have to flee for a while which means he can't even spend that money on food until later.

At least Japan produces this food in the first place. Most of the billion malnourished simply have their hands out. Not that I blame them, but ironically most of them aren't half as hard working as the average Japanese.

BTW, men in their 30s passing themselves off as mid-teens show up in the newspaper in the US periodically too. They find someone to fool in every country, especially people who are literally mentally challenged.

Look, this girl may have been developmentally disabled in the literal sense. It says "Sato told police that the girl looked like she’d be easy to fool." So he deliberately picked out the easiest girl to fool out of all the school girls, which certainly could mean he chose someone with a fairly low IQ.
Not saying she's not "dumb", but past a certain point it's kind of beating a dead horse to call a mentally challenged person dumb.

neverknow2, are you actually trying to say that unlike every other country in the world, there are no racists in Japan? And that unlike every other country in the world, when the police in Japan make a mistake they don't try to cover it up?
In the US police make mistakes all the time and they usually try to cover it up. However on occasion when it makes the news or screws over the wrong person the officer is placed on leave and sometimes fired. That's about the only difference with Japan. Otherwise it's 95% the same here. They make mistakes and cover it up.

harr7959, I have never met a single Japanese person or even uniformed cop who agrees with the behavior of the undercover cops. This is not even about "this is Japan". Read the Japanese forums on this, and there are a lot of Japanese people complaining because they're profiled for the way they dressed (i.e. otaku).
For months after the Akihabara stabbing, they began stopping all otaku searching them for knives. So people began posting online photos and videos of them being searched, even of the cops discovering notes saying "Sorry, try again."
It's sad that people are so ignorant they automatically assume this kind of profiling not only doesn't happen but isn't possible.
