Let's not get carried away here about population declines. White people are in decline as well. Many European countries and especially the USA are in constantly decline in white population - it's the immigrants who are having the babies. So let's not be so quick to gloat over the Japanese thinking our own population increase means we're good.

The school does share at least part of the blame, but yeah the media does like to oversimplify. That said, the most important thing they can do is expel students who have a pattern of bullying. It eliminates the source of the problem and a lot of would be copycats, so everyone can focus on school. It's not just going to help the kids who commit suicides.

The other thing which is not proven but common sense is to teach children about bullying and get them to work together on it. It's counter-intuitive to human nature, but some schools have programs like this and claim they work. Why not try it out, if there's a real possibility they could work. Again, not proven but better than doing nothing.

Kara girls are nice, but they dance like transvestites. Watch carefully and you'll see what I mean.

Well to be fair, it's quite likely both of them are over-reactors. He's just the bigger one.

Wow, it costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars! Hundreds!

Seriously, it's not all that much except for the fact that their relatives are often poor. You know, people who think hundreds of dollars is a lot for dying.

mike is correct, the sick people are the ones smuggling them and the parents who brought them. It would be another thing if they weren't sailing across the ocean and just trying to cross the border. But they got greedy, and wanted to invade Australia. That's just dumb.

I get people trying to immigrate illegally. Just don't do something dumb like this.

If they know the businesses, they should simply pass a law saying every Yakuza owned or run business has to have a sticker on their front window labeling them as such. And taking down that sticker is life in prison. Problem solved.

“Elderly shoplifting cases have become a major social problem..We must seek how to rebuild our social ties.”

    Okay..really?

“Some of the seniors here were convicted of shoplifting after having trouble making ends meet..In a way, they are victims of the bad economy, but that shouldn’t be an excuse.”

    Yeah, they should just die.

No wonder it just gets worse so quickly, with logic like this.

The Bible had it figured out. Normally you punish someone sevenfold for stealing, but if they only stole food they just have to repay the cost. No mention of prison, because it doesn't work and costs you way more than what gets stolen. It's a vicious cycle and the cure is worse than the disease.

Wow, all the parties involved are major dicks, and it's quite a coincidence that they met each other on the train.

Don't know about you, but my wedding was officiated by a practicing preacher. But yeah, some places save money by hiring a fake. Out of a $20K typical wedding, that's where you save money rite?

They need to crackdown on cell phones too, and mass transit. These are key tools in prostitution as well, and no law abiding citizen would ever dream of using them.

Well, the funder is either a proxy for the US (so it doesn't create an outrage among Muslims), or it's by a terrorist organization fronting as an anti-piracy group. Either way, will be interesting to watch if they do end up kicking doors down. Because they know where all the pirates are at port.

tkoind2, do your friends play pop music? Because if they do, they suck by definition. I'm guessing not.

Dictionary definition of benign: showing or expressive of gentleness or kindness

I think you're confusing it with another word. MT might not have been a saint, but suggesting she was a cruel or vicious person is a flippant attempt to make a point.

Computers are fallable. Of course, this would usually be in their design but may also happen due to outside sources, such as cosmic rays. Extremely rare but real in causing computer malfunctions.

While it might be a decent time to buy today, it's certainly not true that a recession is automatically a good time to buy. Japan had a two decade recession, the entire time of which was an incredibly terrible time to buy with house values declining the whole time.

The key is to buy just before the recession ends. That's why people confuse it with "buying in a recession". No, don't do that unless you want to screw yourself over.
