North Korea has always done what China has asked, the key is China rarely asked. Years ago when NK tested their nuke China brought North Korea to its knees by shutting down oil delivery for three days. It wasn't to punish NK so much as say 'that's enough' and draw the line at further escalation. For the most part China lets NK do whatever it wants though.

Religion is fallable, unlike god. That's why it's the most destructive force on earth apart from totalitarian dictatorships.

The major porn stars typically have 40 to 100 videos each. Look it up in their discography, it's pretty staggering. Some even change names and production companies, meaning they double or triple dip lol.

Extrapolating a small segment of the population to the country is pretty hilarious. By that logic, everybody has gay sex.

Wow, that's some tunnel vision. "Japan has lots of porn" = "women like to be naked". That's like saying America has lots of fast food because people like cooking junk for others.

Look up real amateur porn, and the US has way more than Japan.

The threat of invasion is secondary. There are lots of countries that aren't under threat of invasion, but they all have armies. Because if you don't and have anything worth taking, then other countries will soon want to invade them. Duh.

The fact is, Japan needs an army more to prevent bullying than an invasion. As it stands, countries like China can do whatever they want and Japan can't complain. Kind of ironic, like how Japan annexed Korea and Manchuria and there was nothing China could do about it. The invasion came much later than that.

I think this article brings up a constructive and practical solution. It would be embarassing, but it would do the trick. When these seats aren't given to the obese, people will gladly pay for them as an upgrade.

Hi, you must be new to Japan. And while it's true that the majority of Chinese would obey the law, that still leaves millions who wouldn't (out of 1 billion people, that's .1%) and hundreds of millions that would work illegally in Japan on a moment's notice. I'm speaking from personal knowledge and having relatives in China who are trying to sneak into Japan as we speak. It's pretty funny really.

Yeah to follow up on Triumvere's comment, Tim's description of Swedish law is pretty much the same as USA law. And the law of many modern nations. It's quite bizarre that there are still countries that don't believe having sex with someone who is drunk or unconscious is not rape.

Samuellson's quite a moron and liar if he thinks Swedish law is in any way unique.

Whether or not he's guilty, it's pretty clear politics is dominating the issue when prosecutors are overriding each other and nobody following the rules including the government itself.

I think killing someone is a far more disrespectful thing, but that's just me.

…like younger women (19%) - Okay this study is obviously a fraud. Would have been more credible if they said 80%.

I don't see many 40 year old guys chasing after 60 year old women. It's usually 20 years the other direction.

tmarie, you never heard because you never heard. In NY rapes happen in the train, in the station, and people watch. It's pretty ridiculous, and it's actually way safer on Japanese trains if you're talking about rapes. Groping on the other hand, is a problem but it's gotten a lot better now that they're enforcing the law.

Train molestors are in every country. It's weird because exactly the places you named are dealing with it right now. New York, London, Hong Kong, South Korea, the list goes on. Japan's not the only country that's implemented female only cars. It's simply the first.

Yeah, hard to argue with the author here. People in Japan don't realize how bad things are in the US transit system, and people in the US have no idea what they're missing in public tranist.

How about we also ban Imperialism and funding to Yasukuni? Not gonna happen.

I like how everyone is so pro-peace after they lost the war. It's refereshingly opposite to how they were before the war. You know, when they were invading all their neighbors, killing and enslaving, and profiting in every way possible through war.

Oh but ban the nukes, because we got nuked. Hypocrites.

The fact that Japan is doing poorly in TOEIC doesn't really have much to do with JET at all. By your logic, hospitals are the most dangerous place to be because people keep dying there. And sure, nobody has scientifically proven that democracy is any better than communism or anarchy. Call it a hunch or I don't know, common sense. Of course having someone who can pronounce English available is useful! The only debate is if it's cost effective.

This article is full of hyperbole.

Everybody, read this part again: "Last May, she had been fined 1 million yen for violation of the law controlling public morals." and "Shin’s massage shops had raked in some 100 million yen in revenues"

Wow, that's like a 1% tax rate! Crime sure does pay!
