Even if Obama isn't hated as much, I doubt he's going to be able to do much towards healing the destructive images the West and Middle East have of each other.

Good point. Obama may not be hated as much, but the attitude of the "root cause" crowd will guarantee that he is hated to some degree. The people on the ultra right being against Obama is a given.

The link was directed at Madverts. He/She implied that America was in iraq for "booty". The link was given in response to his/her conspiracy theory.

...how is that the hated old Mahmood can announce his visit to Baghdad weeks in advance, when the visits of US "liberators" are announced fait accompli or they risk getting an RPG aimed at their hotel, heh, or a pair of boots across the face...?

Easy...the Americans kicked a lot of people out and assumed power. There are a lot of people that want the Americans to leave so that they can take that power. Also, Mahmood is Shia. Most people that live in Iraq are Shia and tribalism flourishes in that part of the world.

The only one trying to revise history is you, with your bias opinion and disregard to facts no matter where they lead.

when there is a substantial amount of booty to be considered on the country invaded

Do you have a link confirming this booty that was acquired?

then expect to be laughed at at all possible moments if you find youself defending the reasons Bush Co invaded Iraq...

Asking for facts and not your opinion (conspiracy theory) is not defending "Bush Co".

The WW2 war crimes trials were conducted under the working hypothesis that the aggressor is responsible for all subsequent acts.

How do you think Japanese people feel about America (the former aggressors) today?

It's not like the coalition was invited in. So it really doesn't matter who the Americans were killed by.

Has there ever been war where "invaders" were "invited in"? Is this a historical prerequisite for all armed conflicts in order to be considered "legitimate or are these special rules for America?

First you have Non-Muslims attacking the U. S.

Then you have an American president who attacks a virtually defenseless country as an act to receive benefits from profiteering on it.

After that horrific act we have to work to reboot our image. < :-)

What about the first horrific act? Who's image needs to be rebooted for that?

Perception is reality. Obama does a service to America by at less recognizing that America has an image problem among many muslims. Voicing this will lead some muslims to lower their guard enough to actually entertain the idea of finding common ground.

What you don't seem to acknowledge is that non- muslim and some muslim Americans have concerns with the image of Islam and some of its practitioners. Muslims do not have a monopoly on "perception". People know who seem to be the loudest promoters of Islam and they are not the moderates. No amount of denials of that will change Americans' minds.

Obama is acknowledging to the muslims that America has an image problem, who is acknowledging to America that muslims have an image problem?

Adam Yahiye Gadahn formerly Adam Pearlman is wanted for treason not for commiting acts of terrorism on American soil.

You guys with all of these permutations after the fact. Now its an American Muslims commiting acts of terrorism on American soil

    Keep moving those goal post.

Allow me to answer that for Nippon5. You asked

Name me one American Muslim who ever carried out a terrorisr act against the US. < :-)

That's easy... Adam Yahiye Gadahn better known as Azzam the American. He is on the FBI's Most Wanted List, with a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his capture.

You have a hard sell trying to convince the people of the many countries targeted by radical islamists that there is not a problem with radical islam.

Yet we tried your solution, an unsophisticated combination of ballots and bullets, and it didn't work out too well.

Your status quo solution didn't work very well, just ask Clinton, the people of Australia, and the people of India just to name a few. The referendum on Bush's performances is clearly shown in his poll numbers and in the number of Republicans returning to Washington in January. The America people have spoken

Time for some thinking out of the box.

Where is the “out of the box” thinking in your argument? What I hear is “criticism of any muslim is criticism of ALL muslims” from you. That paralyses constructive action and promotes off-topic arguments that go in circles. This doesn't do anything to stop actions like blowing up buddhist statues, beheadings of the infidel, and suicide bombing.

You have a hard sell trying to convince the people of the many countries targeted by radical islamist that there is not a problem with radical islam.

If Beck said to the first-ever Muslim congressman what he is alleged to have said (I did not see the video), then I think it is disgusting and Beck should be called to the carpet for it.

There were 140 victims of anti-Islamic hate crimes in 2007. That is 140 too many but there are approximately 3.5 million muslims in America. Don’t you think that if a large percent of 300 million Americans felt ALL muslims were terrorist, that 140 out of 3.5 million would be a lot higher?

    Food for thought

It is amazing that even though most on this board that are critical of the islamic radicals specifically state "Islamic radicals", people like you prompt come to there defense by insulating them with the warm human shield called “all muslims”.

You and smith are the first ones to come here championing the cause of ALL muslims when you are the only people talking about ALL muslims. How about discussing the problem once in a while, that being the Islamic radicals.

So you want me to believe that the much shorter Islamic wars

Christians and Islamists have been fighting each other for centuries. Please do not dilute yourself by believing that wars involving Islam are a relatively recent phenomenon.

somehow worse than the much longer, deadlier wars of the non-muslims.

There's that moral relativism. At what point, after you feel that "Islamic wars" have caught up to the carnage of "Christians wars" will you speak out against "Islamic wars".
