Where I come from, if you commit a serious offense while drunk the severity of the offense is increased, however, in Japan the severity of an offense is lessened and even justified by being drunk.

This woman killed her own blood, then a month later, viciously killed a neighborhood child out of jealousy if I remember correctly. I can't imagine any course of rehabilitation having a positive impact on her "personality". At the same time, a death sentence is almost too good.
