“When China becomes more democratic, with freedom of speech, with rule of law and particularly with freedom of the press… once China becomes an open, modern society, then the Tibet issue, I think within a few days, can be solved,” the Dalai Lama had stated.

Sorry Mr. Lama, the world is heading toward China -less freedom of speech, less freedom of travel, less rule of non-arbitrary law, etc. - not the other way around.

He has sort of sealed his fate. If he'd pulled this in America, between states (say California and Nebraska), the wife would be granted sole custody and he would be fortunate to get government supervised visitation rights, because he's shown himself to be an abduction risk.

You can bet your *ss that Ms. Bernstein is an Obama voter, so this is a little bit of politically correct karma coming back and biting her on the tuchas. I hope they suspend this horrible, insensitive woman for a week and make her apologize to both girls, their families, the school and the entire community for her callous, backward actions.

And yes, there is nothing sweeter than watching liberals getting tangled up in the webs of their own making. Merry Christmas, Bebert.

I noticed the novelist, Masako Bando, didn't make the list.

So PETA, you can be the best, most cruelty-free dressed woman in Japan and love your pets, but if you throw just one bag of kittens off a cliff the award is forever out of reach? I thought this award was for best dressed, not best behaved.

Nishikori has the solution to the tabloid problem - train in America like the figure skaters do. No one will bother you.

Rope off and area and ban flashes.

Easier said than done. No one was supposed to use flash cameras during the diving events at the Beijing Olympics - but thousands did so anyway. It is strictly forbidden to take flash photos at the Louvre in Paris, but when I visited, there were plenty of idiots who did so anyway (mostly Americans and Japanese it seemed).

I've read Kirino's novels, too - Out, Grotesque and Real World (in translation). Out is my favorite of the three, but I don't think you can say Grotesque is a bad novel, it's just an very unpleasant novel.

The robot is here because Japanese would rather spend billions on making a robot to help them rather than hiring foriegn workers.

Also known as investment in research and development. Similar to electric hybrid cars, Japan has the potential to take a ten year lead in robotic, labor-replacing products that an aging Europe could use. And to the best of my knowledge, robots don't rape, murder, set fire to cars, steal or worship false gods - yet.

Interesting, considering the CIA probably uses her half of Lennon's "Live Peace in Toronto, 1969" album as an interrogation tool in Guantanamo Bay.

Plan B is to come back to the government next summer and ask for more money. They can keep pulling that stunt until the economy recovers or the Democrats lose control of the Congress.

Chrysler and GM sales were down over 30%, too. It's just a lousy market for sales. All the blame for U.S. auto companies can't be placed at the feet of the U.A.W. There are a lot of very poor business decisions to blame. For example, Ford bought several European auto makers and lost their shirts on all of them - especially Jaguar. The only people who made out were the banks who handled the acquisitions (and Bill Ford, who got sweet heart deals on IPO's offered by those banks). Toyota and Honda's management squirreled away their profits and reinvested in the company whereas the Big 3 squandered their meager profits on profit sharing bonuses and poorly thought out acquisitions.

Ladies, it's all about the points (from 2 skates). If Weir didn't perform two of his planned jumps, downgrading them, then he didn't earn the points and he left the door open for Oda to win. And as much as I disagree with it, falling down costs a skater very little if they complete the jump before they fall. It is not surprising that Oda won.

As for Mao, calling her mediocre is just malicious. She has a much more intricate and interesting program than any of the other skaters and is probably the only woman who can challenge the Korean. She's Japan's little treasure, shanabelle (and how does one pick such a queer name like shanabelle?).

Normal people would be carrying excrement bags/kits, including plastic gloves to pick up the dogs' poop.

Speak for yourself. If it's not in my yard, it's not my problem.

I never would have guessed Michelle Obama would allow the Clintons anywhere near the White House. Not so much because of Hillary and her schemes, but because of Bill and his bad influence. "Hey, Barack, have you ever been to happy hour at the Holiday Inn on 11th Street? C'mon, live a little. You're President. The free world needs a President that ain't so tense.... Come say hi to Candy, she's a virgo."

Nice result because Mao has a really nice program. Even when she was falling down in France, the viewer couldn't deny how unique her skate was. Good for Mao. Too bad Fumie isn't going to skate in the finals, she's a much more consistent skater than the Italian.

In India, it takes an extreme terrorist attack to create a death toll just half the size of this tragedy. But in Africa? Hey, it's just another sunshiny day in Africa. Come for a visit. Bring the kids! (But don't get off the boat. You never get off the boat!)

Don't blame the religion. They'd be fighting if one group worshiped monkeys and the other worshiped snakes. Blame the rampant tribalism that infects the whole of subSaharan Africa. And* that *used to be kept under control at one time, at least in the colonies the British administered.

I agree with OssanAmerica, Iceland needs the money - and Japan seems to want whale meat. So, it's fair trade. But American Indians also need the money. Not every tribe owns a casino. So, Japan should consider buying whale meat from American Indian nations in the United States, too.
