If she really felt suicide was necessary, how about getting into bed and overdosing on something? At least her mother would find her looking peaceful in a pretty nightgown.

KissMint. If you had been to the site of a suicide from and overdose, you wouldn't paint it as a scene out of a Disney movie. There is nothing peaceful about confused convulsions of a body that is trying to reject being poisoned. Vomit, contorted limbs, disheveled clothing, objects sometimes knocked over in the delirium, etc. There really isn't a clean way to commit suicide unless you can self-induce a heart attack.

As for the selfish part. Those left behind can be considered just as selfish for not being involved enough to notice a person's potential for suicide and getting them help.

Poor woman. She let her mind be cornered into making a bad decision.

Probably in Alaska, a visit to LensCrafters or Wal-Mart for that matter cost her about $150.

No, the cost of living is very high in Alaska. The cost of a gallon of gasoline is at least a dollar above what is paid in the lower 48 states. The Japanese price is probably about right for the Alaskan market.

The glasses look good. The librarian look works well for professional women.

you don't know anything at all about this latest disaster.

One thing people should know about this debacle is that it is partly due to political correctness. The government placed pressure on Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other lenders to offer home loans to more minorities regardless of their credit rating or ability to make mortgage payments. Rather than being fiscally responsible, the lenders buckled and with the help of adjustable rate mortgages, the charade was able to continue for about ten years. At the end of the day, the law of unintended consequences reared its ugly head and -as always happens to those who try to rewrite the laws of nature- many of those unqualified homeowners are now on the street, suffering the shame of losing their home, which is much worse than the shame of being turned down for a loan.

The problem is Russia wasn't brutal enough. If they'd followed the Bush-Cheney model, Russia would have fabricated a reason to attack Georgia, then the would have bombed the capital city for several days. Next they would have invaded the country in its entirety, but not done anything to maintain law and order (the looting) as international law requires. Then they would have had a nationwide manhunt for the leadership, subjected them to show trial and finally - executed them behind closed doors. Oh, add to that mass imprisonment of civilians, with torture. That would have been a measured use of force in Cheney's eyes.

He also restated US support for Ukraine’s bid to join NATO and warned Russia against attempting to block Ukraine’s entry to the military alliance.

Here is another big money swindle. Nations that join NATO have to upgrade their military to NATO standards. Who do you think they buy their new tanks, jets and other military hardware from to achieve those standards?

The Ukraine has a legitimate, historical gripe with Russia, but joining NATO isn't the solution anymore than fighting on the side of the Nazis was 65 years ago.

I thought Megumi Kurihara was one of the highlights of the Olympics. Didn't realize she was that tall. Also, I thought her dye job was pretty good, so kudo's to her brother.

Listening to the U.S. media, you can hear their fear with this selection for V.P. and after listening to Palin's speech, the fear is justified. What the Republicans have in Palin is a competent female leader with humble roots and an aversion to raising taxes. Yes, she's a Jesus freak, but that's certainly going to play better to the American voter than a disgruntled, minority elitist will, which is what the Democrats have in Obama.

Western European nations are ready to start construction of giant electricity generating wind machine sites soon

Yeah, let's not forget about how the steel for the turbines are made. A strong breeze wafts through the steel works and forges steel, right? No. I think Western Europe is going to be very dependent upon fossil fuels for the far future. That puts Russia in the driver's seat and the pansy leadership of Western Europe in diapers or worse.

Yuriko Koike. Good enough for me. Going from English to Japanese is tough enough, I can't imagine how tough it is to go from Japanese to Arabic. A trilingual female PM sounds OK to me.

I like her and the skeletons exposed so far don't bother me. What I don't understand is why the press isn't showing what a Jesus Freak she is.

For everyone who points out her association with Buchanan, they don't understand how in the tank for Israel the JF's are. Catholics (Buchanan) and JF's (Palin) are Christians cut from an entirely different cloth.

He is a bit of an inspiration for drug users.

More important is that he should be an example for non-users, showing how hard it is to kick the habit once you do get addicted. His name used to be the butt of all jokes and synonymous with "Junky". Congrats that he finally got clean.

U.S. presidential candidate John McCain was among those who called for Russia’s expulsion from the elite club of the world’s richest countries.

No big loss for Russia. I think what the World needs to see now is that we are either going to have Palin or Obama replacing the psychotic Bush/Cheney executive branch. Things get better for once.

The GOP is trying to portray themselves as being concerned about the people

Meanwhile, every white-bread liberal with a XXXXXXXXXXXX is crying crocodile tears over the big wind that killed a bunch of black people who were not "intellectually gifted" enough to get out of the way.

People have survived crashes into rivers, lakes and oceans. I guess the question is, as a passenger who survives the initial crash, would you rather be secured in a life jacket or forced to cling to a seat cushion in what is likely to be paralyzingly cold water?

I don't believe the McCain team picked her thinking they would get that many of the Hillary females. Palin's rejection of abortion is a deal killer for most of them. You have to look back at their rejection of Sandra Day O'conner as America's 1st female Supreme Court justice and how they rallied around Bill Clinton when it was discovered he was having sex with a teenage intern. Their "sisterhood" is a closed club.

What the choice of Palin possibly does do is pull in independent female voters and return conservatives -who hate McCain- back into the party. Most important, the choice promises to get conservatives with deep pockets to contribute money to McCain's campaign coffers which are dwarfed by Obama's war chest.

Russia has a national interest to protect in Georgia and was defending ethnic Russians from an assault started by Georgia. The same can't be said for the USA when it used force to break Kosovo away from Serbia and sponsored political revolutions in the Ukraine and Georgia.

The Flight attendants on American Airlines could pass for their mothers.

Probably due to their flight attendant unions, seniority and the large number of lay-offs of younger flight attendants. Airline management probably never imagined women would continue to work for 30 years when the benefits and seniority protections were granted.

I caught the Olympics back home, but just got disgusted by NBC's biased coverage of the games. They were obviously paid off by someone to show events where only Americans, and some Chinese were competing in.

I admit, the primetime coverage was pretty pathetic, but what would you expect. They have 4 hours to fill and they are going to do it by stroking their audience. That's why you saw an hour's worth of "beach volleyball" instead of the gold medal soccer match.

You had to be either unemployed, on vacation or really good with your VCR/DVD recorder to truly enjoy these games.
