That is the real question. Will Obama let our allies, like the Egyptians, do our torture for us, like they did during the Clinton administration. My guess is "yes" and that's not positive news for future enemies of the United States.

In other words, the merchant ships would be better off if the naval force were led by a less politically correct nation like the Chinese, Indians or Russians.

Acutally, 60% or more of Iraqis are Shiite and clearly, the real winner of the Iraq war is Iran.
What a kick of sand in the face this represents to Bush, his neo-con handlers and Israel. It almost makes the war worthwhile - if you forget the 4,000+ troops dead, tens of thousands wounded and hundreds of billions of dollars wasted.

Shouldn't this be an opportunity for the Australian government to arrest this crew of hooligans? Or does the pursuit of a politically correct cause justify all means?

The rest of Europe was paying $500 per thousand cubic meters while the Ukraine was getting heavily subsidized gas. $418 might be too high, considering the price of natural gas has cratered over the last five months, but if the Ukraine has the money it would take to modernize its military to NATO standards (as required by membership - bringing big bucks to U.S. military contractors) it should have the money to pay the same price Romania pays for natural gas.
Russia is under no more obligation to supply a hostile Ukraine with subsidized natural gas than the United States is to supply a hostile, communist Cuba with crude oil.

The irony of this is it is another Democratic proposal to raise revenue that will fall most heavily on the working poor and middle class.
Much of the middle class can't afford to live in wealth centers where the jobs are. They live outside of these areas (New York City, San Francisco, etc.) and commute long distances, sometimes an hour or more each way, to their jobs. They drive low-cost, fuel efficient compact cars that lack features like a comfortable "ride" performance - so they feel every pothole and tar strip impact, and are physically worn out when they get to work. Now, because they can't afford to live near their jobs, they will be punished for driving long distances to get to work. Bravo Democracy!

This article is about food sufficiency and that is a matter of national security. If a major war were to break out and global shipping were disrupted - Japan would be screwed. Governement is responsible for the protection of the citizens. If the country can only supply 40% of its food in a time of emergency, the government should correct this and set up a stockpile of food similar to national reserves of oil and gasoline. Japan's solution to World crisis that cuts off the food supply shouldn't be: eat what you've got, then eat some leaves, then eat your pet.

Don't give Oprah a rash on this one, she doesn't have the authority to question the veracity of an account by a "holocaust" survivor. Only Jewish holocaust historians have the freedom to challenge a claim. That's why we still have people believing stories about lampshades and soap when even the Anti-Defamation League has declared those atrocity stories to be groundless. Oprah would even have to swallow the "Dances with Wolves" story by the "Mishma" fraudster. So Oprah gets a pass on this one. If you want to take Oprah to task, do it on her racist endorsement for Obama's presidential run.

Another example of how little scrutiny is given to the eye-witness accounts of the "survivors." Raised by wolves? Come on!
U.S. citizens by the dozens have been stripped of their citizenship and deported by the erroneous, but blindly vengeful testimony of some of these people. What makes their testimony so sacrosanct?
Now that the wall has been down for almost 20 years, it is time to do a full forensic investigation and put this thing to rest for once and for all.

Spousal support was suspended in December, because the guy didn't have a job. Still, $21,000 a year in spousal support after ony being married for less than 2 years (and the kid wasn't his). This could be the motive, or perhaps he really loved that damn dog. Animal lovers can be nuts sometimes.
Lesson for men - even a brief marriage can cost you half or more of your take home income for years.
Lesson for women - if the guy is a nut, sometimes the smart move is to just cut bait and move on.
