Two countries, Humphreybear. Iceland is also whaling.
We should also acknowledge the sacred efforts of the native Americans, who are also allowed to hunt whales as a part of their traditional culture. A culture the white man once tried to exterminate.
Last, but not least, the efforts of the United States Navy and its "active sonar." They're not killing the whales outright, just trying to drive them crazy. To what ends, I do not know. Maybe the whales are supposed to go crazy, then swim to the bottom of the sea and drown. Or perhaps it is part of an ingenious plot to get the whales to turn on their protectors and attack Sea Shepard. If they did, they'd be showing more respect for the law than the Australian Navy or the wack-jobs at Sea Shepherd.

Sadly, this bail-out is doomed to failure. Two major requirements deal with fuel economy and debt.
The focus on the next generation of vehicles the auto companies puts a priority on fuel economy for all vehicle classes as a requirement. This will result in sacrifices in safety, comfort, performance, cost, etc. - just about every attribute other than fuel economy. This could force the companies to build cars with great fuel economy that no one wants to buy. How does that get the Big 3 out of their hole? The Federal Government should be requiring they build the most profitable vehicles - but, hey, the Democrats are calling the shots, expect failure.
The 2nd requirement is to reduce debt by 2/3rds. This is a great idea, but the government wants the automobile companies to swap equity for debt. First, this is a terrible deal for the current shareholders, especially the employees who have invested heavily in their company through their 401k retirement plans. Second, who the hell would want to trade debt for stock in an automobile company that is teetering on bankruptcy, especially when the government is now first in line to recover its money should GM go belly-up.
Please stay tuned. This saga isn't over by a long shot.

Sea Shepherd, the white version of the Somali pirates.
Sea Shepherd claims to have sunk ten whaling ships since 1979, referring to these ships as "pirates".[21] The claimed attacks include:
The Self Defense Forces should be guarding the whaling fleet instead of sticking its nose out supporting the Iraq war.
Meat eaters - you're all supporters of the murder industry -like it or not- even if you refuse to support whale research.

Twelve santas, one elf. Sound's like the org-chart for an American company.

Of course you do, the British and Americans gave it to you more than 25 years ago. Plus, you haven't changed - it's always been murder and power plays with you. It's the Brits and Americans who are now having buyer's remorse - and after they knighted you too - you good little freedom fighter.

Two out of three hundred died? Oh the humanity! I bet the German POW's in Soviet Russia would have liked those odds during their years of enslavement after the war ended.
I've got news for those outraged - most POW's were forced to do labor during their captivity, including the Italian and German POW's the Americans kept prisoner in the United States. And the Americans executed prisoners for bad behavior after the war was over and also put some of them on 800 calorie/day rations, which is only 200 more than the Jews got at Auschwitz. Both of which I believe violate the Geneva Convention.

A solution no one mentions when discussing aging populations in the 1st World is emigration. Instead of bringing Third World labor in to keep the social benefits Ponzi scheme going and making things worse - set up expatriate communities in the in the Third World where the economic burden is less on both the retiree and the citizens who cover their expenses.

Muntadar al-Zeidi didn't realize the president has cat-like reflexes. Like a ninja, our President.
Still, Muntadar al-Zeidi can't beat the guy who tossed a hand grenade at Bush and Georgia's slime-ball president a few years back. I don't bear any hostility (well not too much) towards Bush, but if the hand grenade had gone off and killed that Georgian Jew, the world would be a better place - especially for South Ossetians.

No. The collapse of any of the Big 3 would probably lead to the bankruptcy of several automotive suppliers. This would hurt everyone - foreign and domestic - since the Japanese rely on American parts for about 70% of the autos they manufacture in the United States. The reckless management of the big 3 has put the entire industry in a really precarious position - and the Federal government's meddling - especially with its CAFE laws - is making things worse.

Let's not be too harsh on Ms. Kim. She's a brilliant, talented skater. Mao just happened to be better that day through planning her challenging program and then delivering. They are probably both equal in ability, so now they have to out fox each other in each and every event between now and the 2010 Olympics.
I really thought a couple of the up and comers from the American Junior leagues (Nagisa, etc) would be Olympic competition, but now it looks like it is going to be a Mao Asada vs. Yu Na Kim fight. It will be great to watch.
While European soccer fans are being beaten, robbed and raped in South Africa during the World Cup, the more civilized sports fans will be watching great skating in Canada and not even worrying about whether or not they locked the rental car.

Here we go again. The "In-the-tank-for-Obama" media is trying to lower expectations for this miracle agent of change so the public will give him a pass when nothing "changes" with his presidency - except for the worse.
Funny, I seem to remember Bush II coming into office just after the tech-bubble burst and the stock market cratered - and none of the media saw fit to warn the public what a raw economic hand Bush was dealt when he took over.

Poor Yu Na Kim. This is probably the one event she wanted to win more than anything - in front of her countrymen. Still, I saw a tape of Mao's free skate at an earlier event and it looked great, making me think Asada might have a chance to win against Kim - who is usually unbeatable when she is healthy. Congratulations Mao!

Anyone who thinks Obama is going to pull the troops out of Iraq is still living in Sucker Land. The Democrats won back the Congress in 2006 mostly because so many Americans wanted to end a war they finally realized they had been lied into. Two years later and the troops are still there. Obama, like the Democratic run Congress, is beholden to the same evil powers that Bush is beholden too. U.S. troops will remain in Iraq until America's economy can no longer support it and the American empire goes the way of the British empire.

A ridiculous idea. Do you realize how large battery packs are for pure electric vehicles? It would be like dropping your engine and transmission every time you went to fill up at the pump. What is being ignored here is that utility companies are not prepared for the load on their system that would come with a sizable switch to pure electric vehicles or even plug in hybrids. They'd have to start building coal plants by the dozens to keep up with the demand.

Looks like the Sea Shepard is no better than a Somali pirate ship. The Sea Shepard needs to be the next ship on this list.
