A model wears an outfit created by a four-girl design team called Ripe Lips

I think this is an outfit created by compromise rather than consensus...

Crime? Files laid and charged? C'mon guys - 'This is Japan'!

Underage drinking is tatemae-ly tut-tutted, but it's a rite of passage, especially at university. Students - yeah, those wanting to be of the clique that forms the majority of the student body - is going to be pressured to drink, and often drink heavily, and even more strongly by some clubs and groups than others (especially those with 'powerful' reputations).

There will be some apologies, some public shoe-staring by uni admin, some short term rules introdcued or perhaps even bans mooted> But give it a few months and everything will be back to same ol' drinking culture, because, as we all know 'This is Japan!'

I got bullied once. I told my pop. He said hit him dirty, just once. So I did. Kicked the kid in the junk. No one bothered me ever again.

That's why the kid who killed himself in this story was a fool.

Charmed as ever by your delightful and uniquely myopic view of the view of the world. You must be a real catch!

It was my impression that in Japan, workplace relationships were encouraged. OLs were employed as tea pourers, hostesses for parties, and potential brides for the company's salarimen. They could be married off in-house (so to speak) and the company would have a link (and therefore loyalty from) both husband AND wife.

But we're talking about 'workplace romance', so the above really apply does it? ;)

Although I admire Luhrmann's vision as a director and artist, I don't always enjoy what he produces. I really enjoyed Strictly Ballroom, which was also a shot-in-the-arm for an Australian film industry in malaise at that time early 1990s). However, he does go way over the top with many of his films, and Australia sounds like it follows his recent directions. I also think he's very much like the UK director Ken Russell who is known more for excesses than anything else!

sarge - I quit while I was ahead, and stopped watching after the first one (which I happen to like A LOT - and own. The director's (Paul Verhoeven's) audio commentary is a riot!

Australian national cricket players used to play baseball outside of the cricket season - well, according to something I head Greg Chappell say once. But you would be hard pressed to find a baseball game to watch in Australia - on TV or on the diamond, that's for sure. It's quite a minor sport in comparison with the other pursuits.
