This is more of a 'meet-squirt' than your typical 'meet-cute' romantic comedy scenario.
Anyhow, I can't wait to hear how the first date goes!

BTW, what is an eikaiwa teacher's lie? And when do they lie?
"Yes, I'm single."
"There's nobody else but you."
"You're the best student in my class."
"I'm sure you'll get great a great score TOEIC/TOEFL/IELTS."
"I lost my cell phone. I'll call you when I get a new one."

Look. Here. I'm a worthy recipient, even if it only involves the Y30m increase on your previous year's contract.
But if you want to give it all to me, I won't argue.

Carriage returns mean nothing in this system - sigh. Mentally insert commas between items above, but if you can't: Advertisers (sorry to those of my friends in the advertising industry), Real Estate agents, Used Car Sales people, Shonky Mechanics, and Lawyers (creative use of 'the truth').

Nevertheless, this is a broad brush - there are exceptions in EVERY field. However, when bending the truth is in the interest of pushing your product and service, then it could be applied to any profession.
And from the nature of the question - excluding politicians - is the implication that all politicians are liars, so there's need for them to be discussed?

Funnily enough, not a lot of discussion on this anniversary in Japanese media. Doesn't go down well with the LovePeaceJapan image, I guess.

All too true, but nicely said. I fear that, even while be an extremely careful driver, some dimbulb will make a dash across the street either on foot or in a car, or a bicyclist will ride up towards my car in the middle of the night with their light off, traveling on the wrong side of the road. And I'll be held to blame.
RIP to the person killed, and my concern to those injured, but people just have to be more roadwise here: car drivers, cyclists, pedestrians - the lot.

My brother-in-law is a senior police officer. Recently, he had to go for a 'special training course' for a number of weeks. Part of this 'training course' required him taking something in the vicinity of Y1M along for the trip. Why? I was told the nomikais (read 'drunken binges') they would be having most evenings after their 'training' had finished for the day and the macho bonding and networking would take place in the local izakayas or whatnot. Given that this is the culture - an older relative, retired from the police force from the same prefecture said that this 'fun money' was par for the course - if you want to get promoted, doing a good job and learning new skills isn't enough - you gotta pony up the money and get blasted with the boys.

I always find it amusing that those who equate abortion with murder are often unquestionably pro death penalty. But of course, that's another hot topic discussion point. ;)

Good responses so far to a classic hot button topic (who chooses these?).
Anyhow, I'm a man. Ultimately it is not and should not be my call.
Finally, I'm more worried about the furries than the furies (whatever the latter may be...the former are scary enough!)

Correction:
Rather than point out what may be a statistical misinterpretation, would you care to conjecture why this is happening amongst the rural population? Would it be that they living with a "disfuncational state of interpersonal relationships and...self imposed isolation" even though they're out in the sticks?

A tragedy, but I also wonder what actually happened. Having only started driving in Japan of late, the number of people I have to look out for who are not looking where they are going, riding bicycles in the dark on the wrong side of the road - it's just unbelievable. I just hope to hell that even driving safely, under the limit, and keeping an eagle-eye on the road that someone won't pop out in front of me. I am by no means siding with the hit-and-run driver here, but when pedestrians and cyclists take as many risks as they do here, and the onus is primarily on the driver of the car no matter the behavior of the victim, as a motorist it makes me shudder.
