buggerlugs - if she was raped it was 9 months ago - plenty of time to do something. i think she deserves some sympathy but i don't follow your logic.

BobbieWickham - you make a good point. many japanese use the marilyn monroe form of contraception - namely abortion. however in most societies, birth signifies the start of life. you won't find too many abortions that late term.

Maria - no, it doesn't suggest a still birth at all. when a baby is born it often takes a while to get the baby to breathe. i'm sure you have seen film of a nurse clearing the gunk out of its mouth or otherwise working on it. this is why she should have been in a hospital.

i think we should send some japanese homeless to my native australia to teach our homeless how to live and have some respect for themselves and others.
japanese homeless have more pride and class than most australians. they have my respect and i have no problem seeing them on my walks along the river.

kigatsuyoi - that is an excellent point. of course you used energy to write that paragraph, the computer used energy to display it, and i used energy to read it and respond -i even got thirsty half way through reading it and had a drink of water which of course is now not available for the water-deprived.
once the damn is built - i don't think it takes much energy to purify and pump it to households. many damns actually produce energy through hydro-electricity. that water flows down the river and out to sea whether i drink it or not.
there are plenty of rivers - should we damn them all? it seems like a terrible waste of water.

gogogo - it doesn't cause problems in other countries either. they have used about as much water as you used for your morning shower. didn't you learn the water cycle at school? it will fall again as rain - don't worry.

gogogo - such a stupid comment. it would be a waste of water if they were in a country short of water but they aren't. just a touchy-feely do-gooder ignorant comment.

i want the crazies locked up, too. i don't understand mental illness but neither do I understand why people who are crazy enough to kill others aren't locked up.

neverknow2 - i believe it is the moderator's job to tell us that what happens in other countries is not relevant. Notwithstanding that most of the people using this site are from other countries and so that is the frame of reference, and notwithstanding that drawing comparisons and seeing patterns is how we learn and develop and make sense of the world.

my guess is it is a japanese woman. she is a tad on the old side for a foreign worker. also foreign workers tend to be driven back to their slum on mass in a minivan.

fusedentropy - these are not 56 extra police. these are 56 people whose full time job was already to catch criminals. they have been removed from those duties to become "sakura police". In two weeks they have arrested a minor who grabbed the boobies of another minor - highschool stuff.
surely 56 officers working the saikyo line could make dozens of arrests a night.

Triumvere - it has nothing to do with hating J-cops. it is equivalent to a police officer making one arrest every year and a half or so. Do you really think the crime rate in Japan is so low that that kind of success rate is acceptable? There is quite a gap bewtween "wipe out" and one arrest.
