zichi, you are the man! Totally agree especially with your second (political) post.

And LDP is responsible not only for the "nuclear mess" but for a bunch of other issues that are now inherited by DPJ. The later though are too stupid or incompetent to convey the damage and convince the public what has to be done. And LDP just barks for the undone manifesto promises... Well sorry for being a little out of topic...

Ha-ha, nothing personal but what a double standard! When Apple makes mistakes get "Thanks", while MS, Google, etc. are bashed!

I agree JapanGal but just adding salt is not always good. For example if the meal is totally un-salty for me I tend to add more salt then if it was made with certain amount of salt in the process of cooking. I know it is difficult thing to do but I prefer low salt dish the right way from the cooking stove !

My opinion is that exactly this case is very "Japanese" ! Everybody is asking why she waited till after the last transfer. Simply because of the Japanese habit to keep everything under the rug. She probably thought she would help her dear grandson and he would be in trouble if his father knew. Its a mess as some people note there is no strong connection in the family for such things to happen. But and in the same time exactly because of the strong family bonds obaa-chan feels responsible to help out and not to do how most western grandma would do! Go figure ? (I guess scammers have figured it out).

Hmmm, and it will get worse from now on! I was looking at their lineup of smart-phones and it is dominated by Sharp. All the trendy handsets from Samsung etc. are offered by docomo. They rely only on iPhone but are not the sole player anymore. I'm Softbank's client and unlike many others I don't have big complains but now their future looks grim...

It happened in a bathing facility? 600m from the hotel building? And the owner doesn't feel obliged to check the conditions around their facilities?

Totally agree with Elbuda's remarks - full investigation!

What struck me long time ago when I came to leave in Japan is that beauty factor is not existent for hiring waitress here (except Hooters I guess ;)

I lived in Kyushu and usually the order was taken very promptly by an oba-chan - clean, fast and efficient, but... something is missing. Even when the staff is young their uniforms are made to disguise - all covered up, no shape trousers and aprons. Put on hat and mask and all the personality is lost. But... you get your food warm and fast. Japanese are practical to the bone - after all you go to restaurant to eat - this is the other thing. No lengthy dinners - just eat for 20 min and go (unless you are not for nomikae)

Anyone with access to some of the big retail shops can try out the effect of the noise canceling. I was about to buy a pair but after reading a lot of opinions and not being able to check enough models I put of the purchase. In general the expensive models with over the ear pad are really effective.

I am AT (Audio Technica) fan and could tell big difference between their midrange model, Sony and Pioneer (or Victor - cant remember which I checked). There was not uncomfortable feeling when switching the canceling on while with others you could feel various side effects (slight buzzing, etc.)

That's why I think rising consumption tax is a good idea. It means everybody will have to pay extra including the elder population that have saved lots of money keeping them under the futons.

Have you ever thought how elder people spend their savings after retirement? They go to abroad and spend there while everyone pay taxes and pension insurance to support them!

I know that many elder might be in need for extra support and welfare but that is already reality in Japan with some exceptions - that's why the life expectancy is high as well, isn't it.

Seeing only the title I knew smith will jump on. Why you hate him so much?

Anyway - it is a step forward for Honda - wishing him success although I feel England would be better fit for his style.

The problem is that probably he have done same short "drunk" trip many times before. And probably many others do the same short "innocent" trips. But only once in a thousand or million times they are "out of luck" and will end with such a horrible end. Something has to be done by everyone - not only the police...

tmarie, on the spot! My daughter's teacher just became sick and eventually replaced. He was not very skilful and was hated from both the bullies and the bullied, but still the way he had to go involving parents and everything was too harsh. The smaller public schools in Japan are pitiful picture...

issa1, I would agree on your statement except in the part that Japanese technology is stollen. Yes, there might be cases but it is mostly taking product and making it cheaper and some times better. In other words same thing Japan did to US back in the ears of the light bulb, transistor radio, etc. Not to mention Japanese copying all European technology, food, etc., etc.

And yes - Panasonic is in wrong but they were not alone and no need to generalize about Japan.

I think in Europe there were lawsuits forcing MS to make IE and optional install. And isn't Safari coming with every Mac similar? Why nobody is crying to Apple for monopoly on the browser?

Anyway few days ago Chrome got installed on my wife's PC with some other software (I am usually careful but it happened). I was interested and it seemed clean and straightforward.

However fonts looked very ugly (clear type is very smooth e.g.) and everything is online. Things which one would think have to be installed on the PC (like Settings and Options) were leading me to online pages.

I understand everything is moving towards the cloud but I am not ready - need a bit more privacy. Uninstalled and as always FF with my add-ons. Recently with the many FF updates some favorite add-ons are not working but there are ways to make them compatible with small change of the Max version in a setting file of the archive.

I didn't watch last night the Japanese game but Serrano, what you say about their 2nd set was their "trade mark". I am quite emotional when I watch games and I just couldn't stand seeing Japanese team doing quite well many times leading with 23-19 to lose the set 26-24. Every single match they did this - very frustrating - taking difficult points and letting the set slip easily in the later stage.

Congratulations to the top 3 teams - very strong tournament as a whole. Just hope Japan will revise their TV rights and give time also for the other games or let people access to the online streaming.

Come on guys you are pathetic!

How many times Japan is bashed that it is too lame and too chickenshit in its foreign politics toward neighbors?

Now when the national representative (in the face of the football team) was humiliated in NK we have just to bow and say thank you? Or may be sorry for asking for too much (those bad mannered players shouldn't have brought bananas - doumo sumimasen)

Is that what you want? I think such debates show there is diversity and are not waist. Japan have to show some position and withstand the provocations.

One thing to consider is that never before anybody took measurements from the same spots. We need comparable data now/before March 11 to make precise conclusions for certain area. Of coarse to a certain extend with the isotope ratio it can be determined if it is from Fukushima or from previous events but still precise study is not possible.

And I wonder why they don't mention the name of this citizens group? Are they minors or what? It seems they are doing good job and public should be aware of where this group to be found.

It doesn't matter it is from gold - I don't like it ! Why everything VERY expensive have to be nice? Million times more I would prefer the warmth of a real Christmas tree with a touch of jewelery for example.

And those two are martial artists in disguise, right!

Everyone is jumping again without reading carefully. This was a scientific paper. If you look at the science as a whole it doesn't mean immediately its the only truth. Science is based on a lot of hypothesis and more often than not new one emerge to be closer to the truth. In this study they rely on simulation and they don't have reliable data to start of. They actually even haven't included data before March 19th so the actual results might be even worse! What I want to say is that local governments really have to check and double check their premises and to control the farmers. And give their data to the scientist who can make better evaluation based on reliable data.
